ONE [Video/Action]
[The face on the screen isn't one that would be considered friendly. It's the face of a man in his late twenties with bags under his eyes that are so heavy it looks as if he hasn't slept in at least a month. He frowns, taking a moment to think as he sighs heavily.]
I'll make this brief. My name is Trafalgar Law and I, like many others, am new to this city. I've read the pamphlets, I've seen the video, and I've done some preliminary information gathering so I don't need any hellos or welcomes.
I'm looking for my crew. If you know of anyone who claims affiliation with the Heart Pirates, I'd appreciate it if you could point me in their direction.
[And with that the video feed is cut. No pleasantries included.]
[ACTION.]
[Law has only been here for a couple of days by this point, so he'll be spending most of his time wandering the city in order to get his bearings. He's also looking for a job. Surely there's a need for a doctor somewhere.]

Law notices that he's being followed almost immediately. Ace may be tamping down his haki, but Law has a few more years of experience at detecting it. He doesn't say anything for a few minutes, doesn't even look back, or find it necessary to acknowledge his stalker's presence.
It's only when Ace gets to within a few feet of him that he finally says something, but he still doesn't bother turning around and the lazy annoyance in his voice is more than apparent.]
I wouldn't recommend coming much closer if I were you.
no subject
Ahh, you're good. You're good.
[he's impressed.
He circles a perimeter around him like a cat, taking him in]
Trafalgar Law huh? [hmm. hmmmm. Nice style. Nice hat. Ace liked his sword, too. The finger tattoos are kind of overdoing it a bit in Ace's opinion, but rookies these days.]
Heart Pirates is as interesting choice. Do you take them or break them?
no subject
Both, but I take more than I break.
[Not much time or interest in breaking hearts, honestly.
Then something of cruel smirk pulls at his lips.]
Unless you're being literal because then I'd say the two equal out pretty nicely.
no subject
Someone a little more like Barty...]
You're a pretty brutal guy then...
[or a lying liar who lies a lot.]
[Ace cracks his knuckles]
Alright. I'll take you on.
[Because if you're lying it's up to Niisama to beat some truth into you-- and if you're not... well Ace maybe can resolve the disconnect somehow]

What does he know about Ace? He knows he was Whitebeard's 2nd division Captain, that he's eaten the flame flame fruit -- a logia type, that he's the son of Gold Roger, and that he's Straw Hat-ya's older brother. He's heard stories about him -- every rookie has -- and he knows that he lost a fight with Blackbeard that got him sent to Impel Down. It was that very act that led to the war at Marineford.
That still begs the question: What does he really know about Portgas D. Ace?
Nothing.
All he has to work with is the knowledge he already has and what he knows of Luffy. If these two were brothers and if they were anywhere even remotely alike then not only is Law facing someone powerful, but he's facing someone who absolutely is 100% serious about fighting him.
Because a person like Luffy don't say that they're going to fight someone unless they mean it and he has a feeling a person like Ace is much the same way.
He doesn't bother asking him why because the why doesn't matter right now. The why won't stop Ace from fighting him. Instead he reaches for his nodachi, his eyes hard and cold.]
I don't have a reason to fight you, but if it's a fight you want that's what you'll get. I won't go easy on you.
no subject
Woah woah. Calm down, man. I'm not here to get into a major battle or anything, it's just about testing skills and seeing what you've got.
After all, you're the one looking after my little brother, right? Or he's looking after you. Either way, I'm not into trashing his little friends.

As Ace puts up his hands, he moves his own away from his sword, still watching the man's every move, analyzing his every word. He'd be lying if he said he wasn't a bit surprised by this. He hadn't expected an explanation (he wouldn't expect one from Straw Hat-ya, that's for sure). Maybe he's projecting too much of what he knows of Luffy onto him, but it's still too early to tell.
But then he says that and Law can't help but sigh.]
It's not like that. We're allies. We're not friends and no one's looking after the other. He's helping me and I'm helping him. That's it.
[At least, that's how it should be. He's well aware that Luffy thinks -- and most likely says -- otherwise.
He regains his previous composure easily enough though. He cocks his head with a wry smirk.]
Just what makes you think you can take me so easily?
no subject
[he's kind of jealous actually. Ace isn't used to the idea still of Luffy relying on anyone but him and it's one thing when it's squishy nakama and another when it's a guy with an attitude of his own]
I don't know, rookie, why do you think?
no subject
But whatever, Law's got more than enough attitude, Ace.
Something in his eyes flashes at the word "rookie", the smirk on his face growing even wider.]
Careful, Fire Fist. You don't know what you're up against.
no subject
No I don't.
But I wouldn't mind finding out how it feels.
[he likes your smirk, rookie. He likes it a lot. In more ways than one.]
no subject
Things Law did not expect today: THIS.
It's not something that shakes him, though. That smirk stays firmly in places as he raises an eyebrow.]
I'm sure you would.

Still, his guard is far from lowered and he is absolutely still watching Ace's every move. Analyzing. Calculating.
For the briefest of moments he even entertains goading him on just to see what he'd do. It's a thought that immediately vanishes because there's more than one reason why he absolutely shouldn't.
He shrugs, amused.]
I think they're comfortable, but I was under the assumption that you didn't come here to admire my wardrobe.
no subject
[stops in front of him and grins]
What did you come here to do?
no subject
[Because despite some of his more reckless decisions and impulses there isn't much that he does without one. Even today he's out here walking around with purpose. His goal was to learn the layout of the city and, if they were here, find his crew.
Obviously he can take into account some hiccups. He's yet to find out if he's taken the hiccup that is Ace into enough consideration.]
no subject
[whatever this guy is up to looks like trouble and Ace is all about that]
no subject
[It could be boring, Ace.
Spoilers: It's boring.]
no subject
[he'll make it exciting]
no subject
He quietly sidesteps Ace and starts walking again.]
Then let's get going. We've got some ground to cover.
no subject
[smacks his ass]
Where are we going?
no subject
Nowhere in particular just yet. I only woke up here a couple of days ago so I'm still trying to learn the layout of the city. I'm curious to see if any of my crew is here, too.
[Though since Ace has been here longer than he has he might as well ask.]
You haven't met any other pirates here who've said they're part of the Heart Pirates, have you?
no subject
That's your plan? Rookies... [he's still into tagging around behind him though]
No. What do they look like? [digs a finger in his own ear]
no subject
They all wear jumpsuits with our mark on them. The two most easily recognizable would be Bepo and Jean Bart. Bepo's a polar bear and Jean is easily three times my size.
no subject
So are you going to set up territory here or...?
