Other than going cold turkey, what can you do to deal with an addiction? And how do you know for sure that it is an addiction? Especially if it's something you still need in your life? Like work, or exercise, or food, or sex, or whatever.

[A is for Action: At the Sycamore Cycles, Smoker seems pretty well focused. Nothing out of the ordinary going on with him, even if he is wearing the leather jacket despite the heat, that's still not that unusual for Smoker. And it's a lot cooler this week than last. This time it's not jazz on the radio, but rock instead, although he doesn't appear to be enjoying himself any less. However, upstairs, he keeps playing with a pen, apparently trying to chew gum and smoke at the SAME TIME, and fidgeting about with wanting to make coffee... and not wanting to. Weird. Even for Smoker.]
[B is for Baseball: At the batting cages, Smoker cranks up the speed to as high as it will go, and despite wearing very dark motorcycle goggles at night, he does seem to be hitting the balls fairly regularly. It's cheating though, he's just got the rhythm figured out, and he needs a pitcher. Preferably not like Garp though, no one needs to practice batting cannonballs, not even someone who wants to catch the future pirate king.]
[C is for Carp: And then he's just fishing. And he looks really really out of place with it. Like he's the fish debating whether to go for the bait despite the obvious hook or leave it be and look somewhere else. Decisions, decisions.]

[Yeah. A+ argument. He feels like he should be scared but he's got too much of an adrenaline rush, but he pulls his hood up anyway.]

[Nah, don't be scared of him Jaune, he's like a big cuddly mastiff.]
Because that would make it incredibly unwieldy for driving. You know [Translated from OP world to real world names, just like with the Derringers!] when Alexander the Great was passing through Persia, the King of Persia put swords in the spokes of his chariot wheels, thinking it would intimidate the enemy. It was a total disaster, and he just messed up his own line of horses.
You shouldn't try to drive and fight at the same time, you'll crash like that.

Only if you're bad at it.

[And Smoker just facepalms.... AGAIN.]
Why not just put a gun there? You could have it by the lights and triggered on the handlebars.
You still shouldn't though, because that is really stupid.
[And now to bluff out truth time.] So did you get started on your knife-gun or whatever you settled on yet?

[He thinks Smoker's suggestion is too dangerous. Not the ideas he's come up with.]
[He definitely makes a similar expression to a deer caught in the headlights now, freezing and holding his arm. He's never been good at being subtle but anonymity had still provided a kind of security.
Think of something. Anything.]
No. Sir. What are my orders?
no subject
Well, did you settle on at least trying out different types of guns?
no subject
Yeah, I've been training. Every day. I should be training now. Instead I'm looking at motorcycles. And none of them have guns which is kind of mildly disappointing.
Actually, I do have some sketches of the weapons made...but I don't carry them around with me.

I thought you said accidentally firing the gun on a motorcycle would be too easy.

Or if you were incredibly reckless.

[He pulls out a small bag of salt and vinegar chips he was carrying with them and begins to eat them. Backing away toward the exit.]
But you make some good points. Good talk, marine motorcyle sir. Who's definitely my superior. Because I'm from your world.
You should probably stop hitting yourself in the head because it's going to give you a headache.

So they tell me.
Get to practice, kid.
