Other than going cold turkey, what can you do to deal with an addiction? And how do you know for sure that it is an addiction? Especially if it's something you still need in your life? Like work, or exercise, or food, or sex, or whatever.

[A is for Action: At the Sycamore Cycles, Smoker seems pretty well focused. Nothing out of the ordinary going on with him, even if he is wearing the leather jacket despite the heat, that's still not that unusual for Smoker. And it's a lot cooler this week than last. This time it's not jazz on the radio, but rock instead, although he doesn't appear to be enjoying himself any less. However, upstairs, he keeps playing with a pen, apparently trying to chew gum and smoke at the SAME TIME, and fidgeting about with wanting to make coffee... and not wanting to. Weird. Even for Smoker.]

[B is for Baseball: At the batting cages, Smoker cranks up the speed to as high as it will go, and despite wearing very dark motorcycle goggles at night, he does seem to be hitting the balls fairly regularly. It's cheating though, he's just got the rhythm figured out, and he needs a pitcher. Preferably not like Garp though, no one needs to practice batting cannonballs, not even someone who wants to catch the future pirate king.]

[C is for Carp: And then he's just fishing. And he looks really really out of place with it. Like he's the fish debating whether to go for the bait despite the obvious hook or leave it be and look somewhere else. Decisions, decisions.]

[Smoker doesn't know who Jaune is, but Jaune remembers talking to Smoker. Clad in a dark gray and orange hooded sweatshirt and black bracers, he enters the shop in an energy drink haze, not aware that it belongs to the intimidating marine. If he did, he probably wouldn't have entered it. He starts poking at something but when he spots Smoker he freezes and stares in shock.]

I've always enjoyed baseball.

If there was a good team here, I'd try out for it, but I doubt they play by the marine rules. [Because devil fruit powers do not seem to be a THING in other worlds, much less allowed in a sports game. Which is a shame, because it would be damn amazing to watch, okay okay.]

[Motorcycles are cool. Jaune probably shouldn't be allowed to drive one. But they're awesome.]

[How would anyone drive a sword motorcycle? That doesn't sound safe at all.]

You know. A motorcycle that can fly and shoot swords?

You could build a compartment in the motorcycle, and maybe make the swords expandable too. So it could shoot them.

Because that would make it incredibly unwieldy for driving. You know [Translated from OP world to real world names, just like with the Derringers!] when Alexander the Great was passing through Persia, the King of Persia put swords in the spokes of his chariot wheels, thinking it would intimidate the enemy. It was a total disaster, and he just messed up his own line of horses.

You shouldn't try to drive and fight at the same time, you'll crash like that.

Adela finally approaches with some fresh coffee, having taken a little break from working on it to brew a fresh pot for them both and having poured Smoker's black. ]

But I don’t think people are addicted to breathing. That’s just something you have to do? Something you’re addicted to is something you don’t have to do, but you do it anyways?

Maybe. I rather doubt I could get Kuzan to stop ogling Maribelle's maids long enough to actually play a game or two though. He might be willing to announce them... assuming he could nap in the middle.

I feel like you’re trying to find an excuse to do whatever you’re addicted to.

Well, we may want a layer of metal for the outside that can handle rapid temperature changes without too much damage, if any at all. Between Ace's fire and the ocean water, it will need to be able to withstand such changes quickly. As it goes more towards the wooden trim, it will need to become more heat-resistant so that it will not combust without his intending for it to on the water.

[ She looks at her mug then, frowning thoughtfully. ]

I can see what I can work with, but tempering it should help with all of it at the least. With some luck, it will last a long time.

Like I said, I can't go cold turkey on it completely. I need to deal with some, but maybe trying to keep it at a distance?

I don't think scheduling it would help much though.
