[He doesn't have to explain to her. She has more than enough of an idea as to why. But it does make her wonder what his life was like before Shinra. Had he really never been to a celebration like this? Even as a kid?]

What about when you were a kid? Didn't your town ever have a fair or a celebration?

Only ever known Midgar. Closest was probably the tree of lights Shinra sponsored.

[Which hadn't quite been the same as all this. Even then, Rude likely wouldn't have paid much mind to it, though the light festival had certainly stirred an appeal in him.

But he's not much in the habit of talking about himself, even now, and there are other memories, now, he prefers to keep locked up tightly. Which means deflection.]

How about you?

[Tifa makes a face, clearly not pleased with his response. The tree of lights is something she's heard about but she never went, what with her aversion to all things Shinra related.

Whatever it was like, there's no way it could match the festival going on around them.]

Then I'm even more glad I dragged you out here. [She flashes him a pleased smile.]

Me? Well...my village was very small. We would have a couple of seasonal celebrations throughout the year, but nothing on this scale. It was all mostly a lot of dancing and music and food. But sometimes there would be games.

[He'd expected that reaction, if he's honest, and he doesn't blame her for it. It's not as though he has all pleasant memories of the festival himself, given the associated memories, and that's with him having been under Shinra's employ at the time.

Better not to focus on that. Better to focus on happier memories, and that seems to be meaning Tifa's memories. Especially when she mentions the games.]

Anything here you recognise?

[There seems to be a pretty broad range, after all. Not impossible to think something might be similar.]
