Event Log (Finding the Cure)

Welcome to Happy Heights!
Attleton's premier amusement park!

Or at least it used to be.

Attleton's mayor has mentioned the unfortunate only access point to the items needed to make the tonic that will cure the tragic sense-depriving infection that's going around. They'd thought the disease was gone, so they hadn't bothered to maintain the area, but the wells are Happy Heights are the only place that's still going down to the aquifer. They could drill down but-- well, they don't have time for that before the disease really sets into permanence! The number of freak incidences and the decrepit state of the theme park will make it difficult to maneuver, but they've notified the electric company to turn the power on so that people can navigate their way through the park in order to gather the ingredients to make the cure.

Unfortunately, since it's been so long since the park's been opened, rain water and nature have all but wiped the park's map into illegibility. You're on your own for exploration and it's time to find at least four wells from different parts of the park. There are many, but none are a walk in the park to get to! They used to be part of a collection game kids could play when they came into the park.

The mayor warns everyone that the cure is incredibly sensitive to sunlight and oxygenation from the atmosphere- by the time a person can get four, the first extracted water will have their bioluminescence diminished. (And going to that park in the dark... it's too dangerous, he wouldn't recommend it!) It probably won't make it out of the park, so drink it right away! Good luck!

OOC NOTES: There will be different areas listed for different flowers that have soaked into the wishing wells' aquifer. Each area will have a couple of different scenarios you can play out- you're responsible for playing them out and you're welcome to have a blast with whatever you want to do! If you don't want to play it out but you did play sensory deprivation, feel free to handwave your character getting a cure, but remember: If you manage to have at least four different threads with 10 comments from your character, your character will receive an Attleton Charm ICly and for 'exceptionally valiant efforts' in eliminating the disease. (3 month prize claim limit puts this prize available until Dec. 21st.) To claim a charm, click here. Good luck!

Don't forget: If your character tampers with any of the things that are set up to get access to wells except when stated, the ride may explode or collapse, cutting off the well. Pretty unstable park, you know.

If your character wants to explore more of the park than where the wells are, they're more than welcome to. Feel free to make your own thread if you just want to have your character playing on any rides or doing things that they want- get creative, have fun, but the only areas with wells are those listed.

In his search for the cure, of all things, Jade got himself lost in the lolipop candy maze. And well, it's the most retarded thing the cool, calm colonel has to endure for his life. Plus, his patience has been wear down by his illness where he lost sense of feeling and touch, so he is completely numb, and he walks slower than normal to avoid tripping.

When Bracken forced his path through, at the end is Jade, who couldn't feel the wind properly and the 40 year old mage got knocked over. A sweet lolipop crashed on his head.

Well, the colonel is frowning. "Ugh, you clumsy imbecile!" Usually, it's hard to make the colonel angry, but now he's loosing his cool in his mission to save himself, save Luke, and hopefully, the entire town.

Contrary to his personality, his spells were powerful and highly dangerous. That whirlwind ripped through lollipops with enough force to tear apart trees. It was easy to see why he thought it would be easy to just plow through them.

However, he didn't think anyone was in the maze. The spell died and lollipops fragments flew away as he dropped it and went straight back to his usual self, hugging his staff closely to him and shrinking away from Jade.

"S-Sorry! I... I was j-just going through the... the maze! A-Are you hurt?"

The lollipop hilariously sticks to his long chest-nut hair. He sighed. When this is over, he needs to have his hair washed for serious. It takes a long time to get hair that long clean!

"I'm all right, but I can't feel hurt right now. I lost all feeling thanks to this disease." Jade sighed. There is a mild ache on his head, but he can't feel the pain much. It felt like a numb, tingling though.

After he calmed down, however, he started taking noticed of Bracken. Jade prominent features is his long chestnut hair, his red-tinted eyes, and his tall height and his military uniform.

"What did you do just then? Was that a wind type spell? You don't seem to be the type to knock these lollipops of death with your bare hands."

He nodded apologetically. He had probably made his whirlwind too vicious by using it to break things like that. It could have done some real damage to someone.

"I-I'm a mage," he answered, figuring that explained it. The simple robe, the staff... He looked very much like a spellcaster.

Since Jade had been upset with him, and he was feeling a bit guilty, he stayed back, lurking nearby the lollipops to the side that were still standing.

"So am I. I'm a mage too."

Perhaps the sickness soften the old meanie colonel somewhat. Being around young people tend to do that to him.

In a more forgiving tone, "Well, forget it. There is more at stake here. I suppose you were looking for the wells too? To help save the people? That's awfully heroic of you. You know, it's always the clumsy that is the bravest."

Jade rubbed his hands a bit. Some of his feelings and sense of touch has returned somewhat as he found some of the wells earlier, but it's a partial regain.

"Still, that's a very powerful spell. Perhaps when this is over, I can teach you how to control it." Jade is always fascinated with people's power, but he's disliked teaching. "But later, much later. I'm Colonel Jade Curtiss, at this town's service."

"Y-You are?"

He didn't look like the typical mage where he was from, but people were from all sorts of places here. When he heard that he perked up and stepped forward, hesitantly closing the large gap a bit.

He spoke with a shake of his head, "I-I can control it." Control wasn't much of an issue for him. It was more of knowing his surroundings and estimating how strong he should make a spell. "I-I'm Bracken but... but I'm not v-very brave. I'm here b-because Katze is sick."

He placed a hand on the thermos hanging on his side. He did at least come prepared to collect water.

Jade removed more of the cracked sticky fragments of lolipops from his hair with a deep heavy sigh.

"Nice to meet you Bracken. Let's team up together and try to find a way out." At least, Jade can feel his feet have some feelings of soreness from walking around for a long time.

"Finding those wells is difficult. This place has been abandoned for such a long time." Jade said as he begins walking around through the maze's corridors that isn't broken and the majority of the towering lollipops is still intact.

"I-It's fine," he said with a smile. "I... I can get through."

With that he started summoning up his wind magic again, but this time he kept it away from Jade, since he knew he was there. He built up his whirlwind from a small wind to a fierce tornado and was ready to break through any walls ahead of him.

Jade watched him and observing him with great interests. "That's very good. Here's mine."

Jade with his spear summons his spell for a wind magic too. "Turbulence!" Green light appears in a whirling circle and a burst of wind tears up all the lollipop candy into broken pieces.

Yep, these two mages are on the verge of destruction!

"I-I've never seen that spell!"

His excitement was cut short, as was his spell, when the ground under them suddenly started to rumble. He stumbled and struggled to keep his footing, eyes darting around.

The tremors died down, but it was clear that their spells were threatening the integrity of the ground.

Jade nods, while he flexed his tingly, quite numbed hands while holding his spear.

"I'll be able to show you more once this contrite ordeal is over. I usually dislike teaching, but if we find the well together, I'll repay you with free lessons."

Jade meant it. He wasn't being sarcastic or anything. And anyway, Bracken seems like a good kid.

"Let's destroy some more and make our way to that well, shall? Now, where it could be hiding?"

Jade move forward to a row of lollipops still standing. With a summoning of his artes, he summon a Earth type spell with spikes of rock burst from the ground, perforating the unfortunate candy.

"Stalagmite!" That's the name of the Earth-type spell he's using, and much of the lollipops were knocked down, clearing the candy, making a new path.

"C-Careful...! The ground... The ground doesn't f-feel very stable."

He hadn't moved much from where he was. Though it wouldn't really help much, after that initial rumbling he was afraid to move, lest it start up again. He wasn't sure how solid the earth was or if it was hollow underneath, and he was starting to become afraid that they could fall into a sinkhole.

[personal profile] jadedkill 2016-09-24 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
The tall, towering spikes of rock and earth rose up from the ground, knocked the lollipops clearing the path, and then dissapeared back into the Earth. The unstable ground did cause some of the lollipops to collapsed, and the others to topple and crashed, but otherwise, just the surrounding area, but they have not reach the maze yet as it the well is many yards away.

"Bracken. Look we cleared a path. You can move now."

If Bracken take a look, there is no sinkholes, as Jade's spell really is to summon a tall, towering rock, and everywhere there is crushed candy. Some collapsed on top of each other.

"We have to move on, the well is near-by, I think."

He was used to the earth shaking - it often did when he cast some of his spells. But it was disconcerting any time he wasn't in control of it. He scuttled away from the destroyed areas, believing in his mind that untouched areas might be more stable. Much like someone leaping away from ice that was cracking under them.

"H-How... How will we get through? I-I don't know the way," he stammered. He wasn't really the puzzle solving type for the most part. He had no idea how to get through a maze.

Why is he scuttling away? Jade patience with younger people is never perfect. "I'm sorry Bracken. I didn't mean to frighten you with my spells." But then again, the company Jade hung out with is used to his more powerful spells that can do much damage to his enemies and surroundings.

Still, he followed Bracken to the more stable areas, trying to be more sensitive to his thoughts and feelings of his fright.

"Nobody expects you to know the way. Neither do I." Jade sighed, more out of his tiredness of dealing with his own illness. "No more spell-casting, but we'll solve the puzzle the old fashion way....but I'll take the lead and you follow me."

He hopes that help the boy calmed down from his earlier show of his spells.

[personal profile] shy_mage 2016-09-28 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
He was more than happy to do that. He always followed people anyway, and it meant he wouldn't have to think too hard about it.

The first path became increasingly creepier as they got to dark inner parts that had cobwebs on the lollipops. Bracken brought out his fire for light - it didn't seem risky to use that spell - but it really didn't do too much to make it less creepy.

In the end they came to a dead end. Bracken stopped in his track, looking around, but the only way to go was the way they just came from. He turned in place, gripping his staff.

"Wh... What now?!"
jadedkill: (What a headache)

[personal profile] jadedkill 2016-09-28 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Jade lead the way, down the path, and then he halted when he came upon a dimly lit and dark dead end. The thick wall of lolipops is too think for his spells to penetrate as it is a very high wall. The fact that there is cobwebs and dust gathered, means not many humans have came here.

"A dead end. Shoot." Taking in a deep breath now. "Okay, no need to panic. We just have to turn around and walk back to the fork, and take the path we didn't take."

Jade turned around and walked the same path in a different direction. "Are you keeping up? If you're tired and hungry, I have food and snacks in my rucksack."
shy_mage: (Concerned)

[personal profile] shy_mage 2016-09-29 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
He nodded, still feeling upset. No one ever liked to feel lost. But, he took Jade's word for it and followed him on the way back.

Except, he didn't recognize it. Surely Jade would - they had just been there. But it looked completely unfamiliar to him.

"I-Is this the way we came...?" he asked worriedly. His memory failed him, and he looked around uneasily at the unfamiliar place, frozen in place as he scanned it to look for anything he recognized.

"I... I wouldn't mind s-something to eat..."
jadedkill: (I see it in your eyes)

[personal profile] jadedkill 2016-09-29 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
"No, because we crushed our way through, so this isn't the same dead end." At least, Jade has a good memory and doesn't panic easily the same way Bracken did.

Poor Bracken, he's frozen in place. So Jade...took his arm gently to get him to follow him.

"Yes, but not here. Let's eat back at the forked path where there's a good light." He suggested.

Jade's calm voice and rationality. Hopefully, that will bring Bracken back to his senses.

"No need to feel upset. This maze is just a game. If you want to give up, I'll lead you back to the entrance and I'll come back tomorrow to find the well myself."
shy_mage: (Curious)

[personal profile] shy_mage 2016-09-30 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
He followed along easily when he was pulled. Mazes were likely one of the worst places for him to be when he could forget where he was.

But, when Jade asked if he wanted to give up, he shook his head. "I-I need to get the water for K-Katze..."

He didn't come here for fun. He came on a mission, and even if it scared him he was determined to finish it.

When they got back to the fork he sat down to rest, keeping a fire lit in front of him for warmth, and just in case Jade wanted to cook anything. It didn't bother anything around it, though, so there was no reason for it to cause any problems.

"What... What did you bring?" he gazed up at Jade curiously.

Bracken earns title, "Brave Mage"!

[personal profile] jadedkill 2016-09-30 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[Author's note: In the game, Tales of the Abyss, where Jade is from, the main characters earned titles in-game. The point of titles is to enhance the character's stats. Call it a gag, if you will.]

Mazes can be a trigger for claustrophobia too, with their twisted corridors, repeated right and left, and the dim-lit areas...mazes can cause confusion.

"I see. I came on a mission to save myself and a close friend of mine. But my mission will help the other people affected by the disease too." Jade found a seat on the ground to rest and sat next to him. The fire helps them feel warm.

"I find that pretty admirable of you. If I haven't found you, you would have gone through this maze by yourself, lost and alone. And if you can't find your way out, you would have starved to death by now." Jade chuckled a bit. "That makes you a Brave Mage."

Jade opened his ruck sack, and showed him triangular sandwiches wrapped in plastic with labels of their content on them. He brought a lot of them. "Bought these from a convenient store. I have ham and cheese, tuna, egg-salad, crab-meat salad. I have snacks too, like potato chips, and bottled water and iced tea."

Yup, Jade the military man came prepared and is willing to share.

"I'm... I'm n-not very brave..."

Thinking of starving in the maze didn't make him feel much better. But, it was likely he wouldn't have been confused and scared, perhaps ended up crying somewhere. Still, his denial was weak because he didn't like to argue.

He reached out a little hesitantly, ready to take anything that Jade handed to him. He was hardly picky with food. And it was nice to just take a break somewhere that they could easily escape if they needed to.

As he nipped on his sandwich he seemed to stare at nothing in the maze, lost in his thoughts. It was a lot like camping with the fire there and sitting on the ground, eating. He nibbled away at his sandwich without any complaint and quenched his thirst, satisfying his stomach. The break was nice for his body, too. He'd been on the go quite continuously for a while, from walking all the way to the city to exploring the carnival grounds.

"How... How do you solve a maze l-like this...?" he mused aloud.
