Event Log (Finding the Cure)

Welcome to Happy Heights!

Attleton's premier amusement park!

Or at least it used to be.

Attleton's mayor has mentioned the unfortunate only access point to the items needed to make the tonic that will cure the tragic sense-depriving infection that's going around. They'd thought the disease was gone, so they hadn't bothered to maintain the area, but the wells are Happy Heights are the only place that's still going down to the aquifer. They could drill down but-- well, they don't have time for that before the disease really sets into permanence! The number of freak incidences and the decrepit state of the theme park will make it difficult to maneuver, but they've notified the electric company to turn the power on so that people can navigate their way through the park in order to gather the ingredients to make the cure.

Unfortunately, since it's been so long since the park's been opened, rain water and nature have all but wiped the park's map into illegibility. You're on your own for exploration and it's time to find at least four wells from different parts of the park. There are many, but none are a walk in the park to get to! They used to be part of a collection game kids could play when they came into the park.

The mayor warns everyone that the cure is incredibly sensitive to sunlight and oxygenation from the atmosphere- by the time a person can get four, the first extracted water will have their bioluminescence diminished. (And going to that park in the dark... it's too dangerous, he wouldn't recommend it!) It probably won't make it out of the park, so drink it right away! Good luck!

OOC NOTES: There will be different areas listed for different flowers that have soaked into the wishing wells' aquifer. Each area will have a couple of different scenarios you can play out- you're responsible for playing them out and you're welcome to have a blast with whatever you want to do! If you don't want to play it out but you did play sensory deprivation, feel free to handwave your character getting a cure, but remember: If you manage to have at least four different threads with 10 comments from your character, your character will receive an Attleton Charm ICly and for 'exceptionally valiant efforts' in eliminating the disease. (3 month prize claim limit puts this prize available until Dec. 21st.) To claim a charm, click here. Good luck!

Don't forget: If your character tampers with any of the things that are set up to get access to wells except when stated, the ride may explode or collapse, cutting off the well. Pretty unstable park, you know.

If your character wants to explore more of the park than where the wells are, they're more than welcome to. Feel free to make your own thread if you just want to have your character playing on any rides or doing things that they want- get creative, have fun, but the only areas with wells are those listed.

"Hmph. Serves him right. I wonder if he's wrecked with guilt over what he did to scare the poor people in Nova City."

And well, even if Katze is here...not very likely. He doesn't seem to be the heroic, helping sort.

"I think so." Abel said as he examined the harness. "I wonder where this cable line leads. Are you curious to find out?" It could be fun too, even if they haven't found anything, and really, it's hard to find the wells as it is.

He looked down and fidgeted when Abel said it served Katze right. Sure, he'd been a lot of trouble. Airy had gotten hurt, which Bracken was very unhappy about, and there was so much damage. Still, he didn't want Katze to hurt - which was why he was here trying to find a cure.

"H-He's trying to be better..." he murmured softly.

Stepping up, he looked over the zip line, but it didn't look very fun to him. Rather, it looked scary. He couldn't fly, and he couldn't do anything about it if he fell. It would happen to fast for him to cast anything.

"I..." He continued shifting nervously, glancing about. "I'm not... I'm not v-very light..."

He was afraid it would probably snap under his weight.

"Hmph, let see that he do." Said the Father, stern and scolding in his tone, but in a gentle parental way. "Forget Katze for now, and just focus what's at hand here."

When he noticed that Bracken looks nervous. "I already checked. It's durable and should hold your weight, so you should be safe. If you don't move around too much and held onto the strap, you should be fine. Look, I'm going with you too." Once he had Bracken secured.

"Wait for me." And Abel puts on the harness on himself. The Father looks mighty ridiculous, he looks like a tall silvered hair fairy man thanks to the fairy wings attached to the harness.

Once he wore the harness and all the locks and straps are secure. "Okay, are you ready? On the count of 3, we go together."

Maybe Father Abel told him to hold onto to strap, but he would find a grown man clinging to him and burying his face in his chest. He could be fairly confident in a lot of things with his spells. He didn't like when he had no control and could be hurt. Jumping off edges really wasn't his thing, even if he did seem to be fond of heights. He wasn't sure if there was a rip or tear somewhere down the way and he was scared.

"C'mon Bracken, I'm much heavier than you. I'm sure we'll be okay. I tripled check everything, and I think it's safe." Said the priest, trying to be comforting. "I know you're scared."

"But who knows? If we have a good view while doing down this hill, you might spot a well that will help save everyone. Call it a test of courage."

With a sigh, "But if you're not sure, let double check again to see if you're secure." Abel checked the harness and straps wrapped around Bracken, to make sure he's strapped in nice and tight just as Abel is, and the harness attached to the cable wires is secure.

"Wh-What if it's t-tearing in the middle of the, of the line?"

It was hard to see the entire zip line. Even at good times he'd be hesitant to trust something that he couldn't see for himself. In this amusement park he really didn't trust anything. They could be zooming down only for it to break and send them flying.

"C-Can't we walk it?"

"You have to keep your feet up and don't let it touch the ground on your way down. So no walking." Abel explained.

Then he sighed. "All right, if you don't want go through this, I'll unhook the harness off you and go by myself." Abel doesn't look dissapointed, but then he felt Bracken's concern for his safety. Perhap Bracken is right. And who knows? Maybe the line will snp and Bracken will break his neck.

If that's Abel, he wouldn't mind but then he isn't a normal human, he can heal and regenerate since that's a part of his own powers as a Crusnik. So, he doesn't blame Bracken. Bracken is only human.

"If you want to stay here, then stay here." Abel smiled and squeezed his shoulder gently, as a positive affirmation. "I'll go."

He was happy to detach himself, but he didn't immediately move out of Abel's way.

"B-But you could get hurt!" he said, flustered, standing in front of the edge so that Abel couldn't go. He didn't want the zip line to break on Abel either. "I-If you fall, I... I might not be able to g-get there fast enough..."

He would feel awful if something happened to Abel because he didn't do anything to stop it.

Despite all of that fretting, the Priest is determine to see if there is a well close-by.

"I should be fine. Let me go down first. You have your phone with you, right? So once I reached the bottom, I'll give you a call. Stay behind and wait for me. By the look of this ride, it should be about 10 minutes, so wait for my call at the 10 minute mark."

"P-Please don't get hurt," he begged meekly.

He still didn't want to move out of the way, terrified of watching Abel zip away only to suddenly fall. As he reluctantly stepped back, he stood tensely, wide-eyed, kind of hoping that Abel would change his mind and they could just walk around and do things the slow way.

Giving Bracken the thumbs up, but nope, Abel choose to blitz through. He sprinted, make a leap, and at the sound of the pulley rotating fiercely, Abel zipped through, as if he is fly down, down, down the hill, until he disappeared through the trees.

Leaving behind Bracken alone for the next 15 minutes, waiting for any sign that the Father made it down the hill.

With no particular way to keep track of time, he waited impatiently. It felt like an eternity after he watched Abel disappear out of view, and now he was staring out at nothing in the forest, just waiting to hear something.

It took him a while, but he finally took out his device and a quiet, "H-Hello?" came out.

There is no answer for the next five minutes. But that because for the past few minutes, Abel has to endure the wet part of the ride where there is water gushing out like geysers from the hidden grates on the floor.

Then he has to unhook the harness off himself and shake himself dry, but he is very wet.

But he found the well.

Abel took out his phone and call Bracken.

"Hallo? Bracken? I'm here. I'm at bottom of the hill. I found it! The well."

He was really fretting by the time Abel called back. What should he do? He didn't want to take the zip line, especially if Abel had gotten hurt. Wandering around the area, he looked for a safe way to climb down so he could go forward and find Abel.

Then he got a reply. There was a great sense of relief, and he let out a sigh.

"A-Are you okay?"

"Of course I'm okay. And I found the well. If you don't want to come down, you can unhook yourself from the harness. What I'll do is walk around this area, climb up the hill, and find you again. Just stay there. You don't have to come down."

Hey, at least the well is found. Mission accomplished. It doesn't have to take two to find one.

Even now he didn't like the idea of riding the zip line. For many minutes he didn't respond. Given that the zip line was so long, the walk would be much longer. And if Abel walked back to him and then turned around to go back it would be twice as long.

They only had so much time to gather the cure. Even Bracken had some sense of urgency, even when he wanted to proceed with care.

Finally, he answered.

"I... I'll come down."

He really didn't like it, but if Abel made it hopefully that meant he would be safe, too. He got himself hooked up, checked his harness several times, and stood by the edge with his fingers clinging hard to his line. Finally, he closed his eyes and lifted up his legs, curling up and hanging on for dear life as he started to fall.

Just when he's about to climb up the hill, Abel stopped and returned back to the well, the end point of the zipping line, where he supposedly will meet Bracken eventually. "Okay." At that, Abel waited for him patiently. The ride takes about 15 minutes approximately, to complete it's course.

Abel failed to mention of the shooting icy cold water geysers that comes out of the hidden grates about 3/4 down the journey, but Bracken will figure that out eventually, right?

It would be a while later when Abel would hear Bracken's screaming as he flew down the zip line. He was already as huddled up as possible, so the water blasted him right in the behind, eliciting another scream as a mist of chilled water floated away in the air.

He didn't even know when he was getting to the end because his eyes were squeezed shut.

Poor Bracken, Abel heard him and his screams. The mage kid must be quite terrified of the heights, the speed, and the sheer terror of speeding down the cable while being gushed by the ice cold water of the geysers.

But for some reason, the priest find Bracken's ordeal utterly hilarious that he kept a snigger to himself.

He waited patiently until Bracken appeared out of the trees, completely drenched from his trip, and with a hard abrupt stop, Bracken came to the halt at the end of the line.

And that's where the priest came over quick to undo the harness while calming him.

"Bracken, you made it!"

It was already dark and chilly out, and being wet didn't help. He was a miserable shuddering mess - trembling from both fear and cold. He fumbled down to get his footing and wrapped his arms around himself for a moment before busting out a large fire spell. This particular one was like a wall rising from the ground all the way to his full height, but it didn't move from where he cast it.

He shivered by it, warming and drying himself.

"Wh-Why was it wet?"

At least a well is found, and Abel already drank some for his own benefit. He left it open for Bracken to collect the water.

"It's a hidden mechanism under the grates." Abel said, as he unhooked the harness and undo the buckles to set Bracken free. The fire helps warm them up, drying them. "I think the idea is to spray at the water at the passenger whenever they are riding down the hill."

Tilting his head, concern, "Are you all right though? You don't feel dizzy or have any sense of vertigo?"

"C-Cold... a-and... I-I feel like... like a little sick..."

All that adrenaline pumping through him and being shot through the sky certainly hadn't done wonders for a stomach. It was a good thing that he didn't need to drink the water himself, he might not have been able to keep it down.

He might have looked a bit pale as he stumbled forward and fumbled with the thermos to get more water from the well.

"Okay, that's nausea. That would pass over once you take a rest. Just sit down and take a rest."

Abel waited for him to gather the water, and when he's done, Abel closed the well's cover and locked it to protect the medicine's essence from sunlight and other environmental exposure. Once the lid is sealed, Abel found a stump nearby in which he took Bracken's arm to have him sit on it.

"Well done and good work. I think we're on our way closer to help save the town."

Bracken took a seat and slumped over. He really needed a break. Usually he took his time walking, and he had at times done things like teleport or ride mounts, but he really didn't do anything like that.

"The... The whole t-town needs saved?" he murmured from his seat.

Abel will sit on the nearby patch of grass next to Bracken to rest his feet and took this moment to document his findings on the phone, marking the location of the well.

"I won't rest until the whole entire town is saved. You don't have to do it. Personally, this is my mission and I volunteered myself to help save the town. I know some people are affected, but they're not strong enough to journey around the park and play their games to find the wells. You know, I do it...for people who can't help themselves."
