Event Log (Finding the Cure)
Welcome to Happy Heights!
Attleton's premier amusement park!
Or at least it used to be.
Attleton's mayor has mentioned the unfortunate only access point to the items needed to make the tonic that will cure the tragic sense-depriving infection that's going around. They'd thought the disease was gone, so they hadn't bothered to maintain the area, but the wells are Happy Heights are the only place that's still going down to the aquifer. They could drill down but-- well, they don't have time for that before the disease really sets into permanence! The number of freak incidences and the decrepit state of the theme park will make it difficult to maneuver, but they've notified the electric company to turn the power on so that people can navigate their way through the park in order to gather the ingredients to make the cure.
Unfortunately, since it's been so long since the park's been opened, rain water and nature have all but wiped the park's map into illegibility. You're on your own for exploration and it's time to find at least four wells from different parts of the park. There are many, but none are a walk in the park to get to! They used to be part of a collection game kids could play when they came into the park.
The mayor warns everyone that the cure is incredibly sensitive to sunlight and oxygenation from the atmosphere- by the time a person can get four, the first extracted water will have their bioluminescence diminished. (And going to that park in the dark... it's too dangerous, he wouldn't recommend it!) It probably won't make it out of the park, so drink it right away! Good luck!
OOC NOTES: There will be different areas listed for different flowers that have soaked into the wishing wells' aquifer. Each area will have a couple of different scenarios you can play out- you're responsible for playing them out and you're welcome to have a blast with whatever you want to do! If you don't want to play it out but you did play sensory deprivation, feel free to handwave your character getting a cure, but remember: If you manage to have at least four different threads with 10 comments from your character, your character will receive an Attleton Charm ICly and for 'exceptionally valiant efforts' in eliminating the disease. (3 month prize claim limit puts this prize available until Dec. 21st.) To claim a charm, click here. Good luck!
Don't forget: If your character tampers with any of the things that are set up to get access to wells except when stated, the ride may explode or collapse, cutting off the well. Pretty unstable park, you know.
If your character wants to explore more of the park than where the wells are, they're more than welcome to. Feel free to make your own thread if you just want to have your character playing on any rides or doing things that they want- get creative, have fun, but the only areas with wells are those listed.
The Castle's Treasury w/ Dave [closed]
But not being there wasn't an option. It wasn't just him that needed what this place could offer. Dave needed it too, and a lot more desperately. Not being able to feel things was horrible, but not seeing was unquestionably worse. It was a lot easier to convince himself to go through with whatever came next when he had that kind of reason. Besides, they really couldn't afford another tumble down the stairs.
With help of another pair of hands he'd borrowed the bell from the cat's collar so Dave could hear when he moved, but it was also helpful to have it on his arm so that he could be aware of when Dave moved away from holding onto him. Jefferson eyed the roller coaster they were standing in front of for a few moments before looking down at Dave. ]
Do you really think this is the best option?
[ He had said so, but --
Well, that whole thing had been confusing. ]
no subject
And Jefferson can't feel him. He has no idea if the guy is even looking at him half the time. He probably is. Probably.
He's intentionally poking at the bell, formally belonging to their cat, currently around Jefferson's arm. Jingle jingle. ]
You heard me. Pretty sure it's the only fucking option if we want senses, dude. Just go with it. Forward march. We're doing this.
no subject
I know. [ He exhaled through his nose and looked down at Dave to make sure he was still on him. The bell helped but he wanted to be completely sure. ] Ready? We're moving again. Have you been on one of these before?
no subject
he's holding on to his hand, pretty tight grip on him that hasn't been returned properly the entire time. but that's fine. he can't feel it. makes him seem a bit more confident than he is, probably. ]
What? Roller-coasters? Yeah, Bro and I took a three hour ride up to Six Flags once. [ he shrugs ] They're okay. I mean, when you're properly strapped in.
no subject
But that wasn't the point. ]
I asked because I don't know how to properly do it.
[ But, uh... there was their ride. ]
Can you explain it?
no subject
You don't know how to rollercoaster? It's pretty self-exclamatory. You sit in the cart and there's a bar or something that goes over you that you can grip. It keeps you in the seat so you don't fall the- [ He turns his head and sneezes ] -fall the fuck out. And it goes. And that's it. You just ride it. I'm hearing it. Is it here? My face is starting to itch for some fucking reason.
no subject
Yeah, it's here. [ He almost nodded before stopping himself. ] Just... I'll try to guide you?
[ As long as he was careful he could at least push Dave's body in the right direction. ]
And I think the reason you're sneezing is because these look like roses.
no subject
[ he takes a few steps ahead, cautious but not overly so - which is why he has to take an extra step and put his free arm out to keep himself from falling face first once his foot catches. ]
Right direction. Right? I gotta step into this thing, probably.
no subject
[ After all of this he very well might end up being purely an observer instead of handling them all day too. He didn't think too heavily about it though, since he was trying as best as he could to guide Dave with his hands on the boy's shoulders. If he watched carefully enough with his eyes he could try make his limbs react accordingly, right? Maybe. In theory. ]
Right. You've got this. Take it slow.
no subject
[ hands on his shoulders, where the touch is off because jefferson can't feel what he's doing. an off-grip steering him. it's kind of unsettling. ]
I know I got this. It's all got. It's like pre-ordered and shit. [ he leans forward to trail a hand along the cart and figure out where the hell the seat is, once he steps into the thing. ]
no subject
[ Which made him smile just a little bit. He worried about Dave overextending himself but Jefferson had a feeling neither of them could really just walk out on Terra. She was far too kind to leave behind. ]
Okay, okay. [ He let his hands slip downward and off of Dave. Maybe he shouldn't have done that. ] Tell me when you're comfortable. I won't do anything until you give the word.
no subject
[ terra's chill. he likes her. and she got them kind of started here until he figured out how to make more money. ]
The fuck man. [ where'd the hands go? off as they were, that's still jefferson being in a clearly reachable distance. he immediately puts his arm behind him to grab any part of the guy. ends up with... front of shirt? ok. ]
Got it. All good here. [ he sits. nailed it. ]
no subject
I'm still here, kid. I'm still here.
[ Once Dave was sitting Jefferson made sure he knew what he was doing before he occupied the seat beside him. His hand was still very lightly resting on the boy's. ]
Think you can help me put this safety thing down?
no subject
[ he slips his hands away only to reach in front of them and find the bar, pulling it towards them ]
no subject
[ Well. So far so good. It couldn't be that hard if it was just a game. ]
About the last time you rode one of these... you don't get motion sick, do you?
[ That was pretty stupid to ask considering Dave had made the choice to go on the ride to begin with but maybe that was his own nerves speaking instead of logic. The ride itself wasn't daunting so much as constantly worrying about Dave while it went on. ]
no subject
[ and there it goes. a roller-coaster in motion. he makes a little face because the sounds this thing makes are just metal and gears and ugh. but he's fine. dave has one hand gripping the bar and keeping himself from being rocked. he's keeping himself pretty damn still. ]
Okay. You're supposed to be the one paying attention and looking for something, right?
no subject
[ They'd just started and already he sounded tired of the whole ordeal. Couldn't this have been a little simpler? A little less... Wonderland-y? He was probably holding onto that bar a lot more firmly than he needed to be once things started moving. ]
Right. That is right, right? [ He thought it was right. ] I'm not seeing anything attention grabbing so far. Is that actually right?
[ What a great time to start rambling. ]
no subject
[ poor jefferson. he has to remember to get him a really good cup of tea after this. and some ice cream. run that guy a bubble bath. everyone needs a vacation. ]
Probably. I don't know. Just go with it. You can't over think the rightness of the current situation or we'll fuck up somehow.
no subject
[ He put a mildly strange tone to the word castle. Kind of like he thought they were awful because horrible people usually live in them. No big deal. ]
... do you think we screwed up already?
[ Yeah, he was overthinking. ]
no subject
[ what does jeff have against castl-- oh. wait. something about evil queens and curses, right?
dave lets out an short huff of breath. and blindly swats at the space next to him to hopefully pat jefferson in the face or something. ]
What did I just say about overthinking?
no subject
[ Dave ended up surprisingly close to his target. His hand was a bit off, closer to his ear than the rest of his face, but it did coax out a small but actual chuckle. Even without feeling it properly it was still a strangely nice little gesture. ]
You are such a weird kid.
no subject
[ there. there. ]
You're weird. I'm hot shit. [ he drops his arm and rests it on the bar. he's not even holding on now. ] This shit is kind of leisurely.
no subject
[ Two could play that stupid game.
On top of the stupid game they were already being forced to play. ]
Please. We work because we're both weird. [ No time to comment further, though. He finally saw something just a bit further off. ] Hold on. I think I found what we're after. It's about thirty seconds away. Looks like we're gonna have to reach up and hope one of us gets lucky.
no subject
[ U WANNA GO JEFF ]
Cool as fuck, you mean. [ dave moves off the bar and goes to stand up on the ride, tilting his head towards him while listening. ] Is that a rough estimate? How big is it? [ 30 second timer. he puts it hands up to grasp around. what is he even reaching around for? this thing? or this thing?
he grabbed two things, one in each hand. he also almost fell off the ride ]
Are these it? One of 'em? Both? What's the loot, bro? What am I holding?
no subject
[ But he didn't sound bothered in the slightest. This was just them being... well, weird.
Wait. Wait. Oh god, what was he doing? ]
Dave! [ It was probably too rough and not at all very safe feeling but the second Dave stood his immediate instinct was to grab him. If he wasn't in dad voice territory he was pretty damn close. ] I said about! Not very big? Why the hell did you stand?!
[ It took about one millisecond for him to push Dave back down into his seat once he'd managed to grasp two of the items from above them. Keys from the looks of it, but he was a little to inclined to panic to think about that for the moment. ] Don't ever do that again. [ Jefferson had to remind himself to let go. He looked totally frazzled. ]
