Costume Party

WHO: Open!
WHAT:
Costume Party

WHEN:
10/15/2016

WHERE: The Castle Royale Hotel, Genessia City.
WARNINGS:
None.

The event space in the Castle Royale Hotel in Genessia City was decorated for this event. Fake cobwebs and skeleton decorations hung up among the many other different types of Halloween decorations. It took several hours to get it all decorated, but there was a decent amount of help in doing so. A DJ (Who is wearing a big bear costume) has been hired to handle the music to get people in a dancing mood.

The genre of music ranges over all types, but there was some Halloween themed music sprinkled in there to just set the mood when no one was hitting the dance floor. The event officially starts at 5PM, but the doors themselves open at 4PM. Though at that time, things are still being set up, but you won't be asked to leave if you decide to sit around and wait for it to start.

There is a minor police presence with GCPD staked out at the entrance way that leads toward the event space.

Refreshments Table

The refreshment table has many things to satisfy your sweet tooth with, many different kinds of cupcakes, fruit cups, lots of different types of cookies, caramel apple bites, brownies. There are plates and such at each end of the table as well as napkins. The catering service will constantly be refreshing the table as it gets low on food.

There are even many Halloween themed drinks. There are more traditional party items like fruit platters and the like scattered among all of the delectable food as well. There is a bar set up along one of the walls in the room with a bartender standing behind it for those looking for a more alcoholic type of beverage.

Tables/Balconies

The tables among the ground floor and the balconies have all been decorated in a similar manner as the rest of the place with Halloween themed tablecloths on each table. There are small electronic, battery powered candles on each table. There is no actual flame on it, instead it is just a light shaped to look like one.

Dance Floor

The dance floor doesn't have anything spectacular different about it. There is a small, light fog that coats it thanks to a fog machine just on the outside of it. Lights are hung above it to be used when the lights in the place go dim. The fog isn't so thick that you can't see your own feet, though.

[Bracken was also dressed up in a way that reminded him quite a bit of a friend from back home. The idea, however, had been Katze's, when the alien decided to dress up as a combo of Mad Hatter and Cheshire Cat, and Bracken ended up as the hatter.

Of course, it looked very out of place on the normally very plain mage, but he did his best. He certainly didn't have Hatter's lithe figure or neatly trimmed hair, but he at least was a decent height.

When he approached Fai he was reserved, with a small stack of papers in hand. But they were facing himself and Fai wouldn't be able to see what was on them.]

F... Fai...?

[He turned his head slightly, he hadn't been focusing much on what was in front of him, mostly because there wasn't much to think about when it came to surgery treats.]

Ah, hi there. How are you? [He paused for a moment.] What are the papers?

S-Someone said that people have to be... they have to be scared f-for the barrier. B-But, I said th-that, that H-Hatter used to make a b-big scary place for Halloween. And... And it was s-scary, but no one died.

[He didn't meet Fai's eyes the whole time, but he said the last part as if he needed to convince him that something could be scary without being deadly.

Finally, he nervously realized he wasn't actually letting him see the pictures, so he held them out. It was very much Halloween, but it wasn't just a haunted house or anything. It looked more like someone had rented an area that must have been a couple of miles wide and spent millions of dollars going all out for Halloween. He drew what he could remember of Hatter's fancy Halloween parties, from scary wooded areas to a large, towering mansion.]

E-Everyone always wanted to, to go every y-year, but... but no one got hurt. M-Maybe... Maybe E-Everglade could be like th-that, too. So that they... So that they w-want to go there to be scared, b-but no one has to get hurt.

In Everglade yes, though we're currently not in Everglade.

[But it made sense that ne would think of something like that. And he agreed with it to an extent. However he was aware of one thing he had to honestly disagree with.]

While being scared does power the barrier, sadly some people do have to be hurt for others to survive in Everglade. There are methods for people to not get hurt like blood banks for vampires, but there are monsters in Everglade that simply have no alternative.

[He shrugged slightly.]

That is the way that world is. You can try and prevent it but at the risk of actually hurting another.

[His expression dropped, and his arms went slack with the papers in them as he looked down. He wasn't someone who could get into big arguments. It was rare he even tried to express conflicting opinions, but it obviously upset him. He wanted things to be better, and for everyone to be happy and safe, and he didn't see why that couldn't be possible. He'd never met anyone who truly didn't have any other alternative, and no one had been able to point out such a person to him yet.

He got misty-eyed but held it in, choosing to stare at the floor instead. When he did finally speak, it was a quiet, pained murmur.]

I-I miss home...
truesmiles: (12)

[personal profile] truesmiles 2016-10-19 10:33 am (UTC)(link)
And missing home is perfectly normal.

[Fai didn't miss either home if he had to be honest. He just missed the people he travelled with. They were what he would consider his home after all this time. Which was odd considering.]

But because one misses home, doesn't mean one should change one place to suit there own wants and beliefs. Because if one does it could change this whole world for the worse. There is always that chance.

[personal profile] shy_mage 2016-10-20 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
I... I don't understand. Wh-Why would it be worse for e-everyone to get along?

[He was obviously deflated, but this was something he couldn't understand. Race hadn't mattered at home.]
truesmiles: (54)

[personal profile] truesmiles 2016-10-20 11:58 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly where would the fear come from if everyone in Everglade actually got along?

Faking something isn't the same as genuine fear and by them not getting along beings that.

[He knew it wasn't so much they might not get along. He had seen some who were opposites who did, but he knew it was an impossible thing for everyone to get along.]

Besides people normally have issues with others, even over little things. So it's impossible to make it happen anyway without forcing it with magic or something and that is honestly not right.

[personal profile] shy_mage 2016-10-20 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)
C-Can't we make another barrier? One that isn't... One that isn't powered by fear? Wh-Why does the one there need f-fear?

[None of it made sense to him. Why would someone even create a barrier like that? Why not power it with a different emotion? He could understand people not getting along, but murder was a whole different level.]
truesmiles: (26)

[personal profile] truesmiles 2016-10-21 10:44 am (UTC)(link)
But you'd have to keep the other barrier going while you did that. Because we can't let it falter again and let what is beyond it back in.

[He paused for a moment.]

Plus one person alone would be unable to generate enough power to cover a whole city. You'd need to have more than one use the exact same spell, which would mean you'd need someone who can go outside there normal kind of magic and learn in a short amount of time.

[personal profile] shy_mage 2016-10-21 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Th-There's so many people... s-someone must know how...

[His voice was getting difficult to hear over the rest of the party. He wasn't very good at debating, and he didn't have the confidence for it. There were few things he would continue fighting for, but trying to protect people was one of them.]
truesmiles: (68)

[personal profile] truesmiles 2016-10-24 11:13 am (UTC)(link)
There is, but can they all learn other magic is the question you need to ask.

[He isn't saying it's impossible, he just knows people might have a limit like he knew he did when it came to certain types of magic.]

If you think they can, then you'd simply need a spell that can be used extremely quickly as the other barrier would fall. By quickly I literally mean couple seconds. Then you'd need to figure out how to get the barrier to spread out evenly.

[He paused.]

There is actually a lot one has to think about before trying something that big. Which is probably why no one has ever actually come up with a good alternative. Because one might start on a possible, but find out something is wrong and it wouldn't work.
shy_mage: (Uncertain)

[personal profile] shy_mage 2016-10-29 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
[He frowned. There was much he wouldn't argue, much he couldn't fully understand. He assumed other people knew what they were talking about, but he really believed there had to be some better way.]

Wh-Why would they have to do... to do it so fast?
truesmiles: (70)

[personal profile] truesmiles 2016-11-01 10:03 am (UTC)(link)
Because of what lurks outside the barrier. I was here when there was a crack and what happened was not pretty at all.

[And he wouldn't want that to happen again and see a bunch of emotionless people.]
shy_mage: (Curious)

[personal profile] shy_mage 2016-11-05 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
But... But c-couldn't they put it up f-first, then take down th... the other barrier?
truesmiles: (68)

[personal profile] truesmiles 2016-11-05 10:14 am (UTC)(link)
That would make the barrier smaller wouldn't it? I don't know how much smaller but it might mean giving up some space in order to pull it off that way.

Unless you could put it just below of it, of course. But that would require calculations really like how high up the barrier actually is and how high you would need to get the other. Even magic needs to have precise calculations to use sometimes.
shy_mage: (Reserved smile)

[personal profile] shy_mage 2016-11-06 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
A-At home, my friend was a ma... math... mathematician. C-Couldn't someone like that do it?

[Since he actually knew someone like that he felt more hopeful. He knew there were mathematicians in the world, and surely not only his world.]
truesmiles: (63)

[personal profile] truesmiles 2016-11-07 10:52 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know, I mean they could do the maths but they don't actually do the magic I assume? You would still need to memorize it yourself even if you got someone to do the actual calculations.
shy_mage: (Pouting)

[personal profile] shy_mage 2016-11-12 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
B-But... C-Couldn't they work together?
truesmiles: (62)

[personal profile] truesmiles 2016-11-12 01:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I am pretty sure I can say he can tell them the calculations but without the guy flying up to point out the exact point, how else would you know where to aim with how much and at what point without actually knowing the math yourself?

There is working together, just not on the barrier itself.
shy_mage: (Reserved smile)

[personal profile] shy_mage 2016-11-13 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
[Flying wasn't a particular problem in his mind, so there was plenty of hope there. It would just take multiple people working together.

He smiled hopefully.]

Th-Then, I'll help p... pay for it, if it needs money!
truesmiles: (63)

[personal profile] truesmiles 2016-11-13 03:09 pm (UTC)(link)
If what needs money?

[He sounded slightly confused right now.]
shy_mage: (Curious)

[personal profile] shy_mage 2016-11-14 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
If... If you need to p-pay money to hire them.
truesmiles: (63)

[personal profile] truesmiles 2016-11-15 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Unless you know friends here who would do it for free, but I guess so in that aspect, but depends on the person some might ask for more money than another person.
shy_mage: (Big smile)

[personal profile] shy_mage 2016-11-16 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
I... I can't do much else, b-but when you find the people to do... to do it, I can at l-least try to help pay.

[And he was feeling confident that people would be found. It didn't sound so bad. They just needed a magic user who could create a barrier and a mathematician. There had to be some of those around! And maybe someone who could fly, and there were many of those.]
