[ Food not being fulfilling was more than enough to cause panic. She knew what she had to do to fulfill herself- it wasn't as if vampires were exactly a mystery when it came to the basics. But trying not to make things bad for Mercury was proving more than difficult. She was starting to resent him for trying to keep his record clear. She knew why. He valued his freedom, but to Emerald it felt like a waste. It felt like she'd lost a partner and now he a roommate. She still wouldn't rather be around anyone else here, but it didn't make her less frustrated about it. She still held a tiny bit of resentment toward him for refusing to go after Cinder with her too. It was adding up and leaving her more restless than she should be.
Between her absolute refusal to go hungry (even the start of the feeling was unsettling considering what she used to live with) and that, she had headed out after it looked like Mercury had gone to bed, slamming the door behind her just to annoy him. She doubted he would follow.
Now just to find someone who looked like no one would miss and like they wouldn't leave a bad taste in her mouth. ]

Now that he's done mourning, his demeanor shuts down as he looks at her carefully.]
You look annoyed. The funny thing is it suits you more.
no subject
Jaune! It's so good to see you being so considerate. [ She picks the pizza up and holds it out for him, back to her annoyed expression. ] If you aren't going to eat it, find someone who will before it goes bad.
no subject
He doesn't like or trust Emerald. Sometimes he can't stand her. But this time, she does have a point. After five seconds of the most conflicted internal debate ever, he shrugs and accepts the pizza.]
Five second rule. [Taking a bite.]
no subject
Good choice.
no subject
Not that I care, but you seem, I don't know. You're barely even bothering to pretend to be civil to me.
no subject
[ she gives him an irritated look. Why in earth would she be civil toward him even if she went in a crappy mood? ]
Last time we spoke you did threaten me. Every time I try to reach an olive branch out to any of you I get threatened or attacked. Why should I be civil?
no subject
I didn't know deliberately trying to provoke someone into doing something stupid counted as trying to make peace. Or are you really that messed up that that was your intention?
no subject
You really are a stupid brat. [ But the last thing Jaune needs to know is that she tried to tell the truth, tried to make a deal with Ozpin and almost did. But he couldn't keep his end of the deal, so she backed out. She was safer with Mercury and Cinder. She could trust them, even if some parts of what happened at Beacon made her sick to her stomach. Like she would compromise that just to explain to Jaune that she had actually tried. ]
It doesn't matter, forget it. I'm hungry and grumpy and I don't want to talk to you. That's enough reason not to be civil unless you're offering yourself up as a meal.
no subject
He wants to feel angry, and he is. But he can't be about this. He tears his gaze away, too stunned to reply at first, his reply quiet when he does.]
You're right. I don't know what that's like. I probably never will and when it comes to that I am lucky. I'm not a hero. It's like you said, I'm just a stupid brat who makes selfish choices. I'm not a murderer, and I'm not pure evil, but that doesn't mean I didn't get people hurt. I probably didn't pay as much attention to Vale as I should have, but those people who were starving were no better off when the Grimm invaded. We're not the only ones at fault here.
You know what makes this worse? I agree with you. But I can't even be sure if you're being honest, or just trying to guilt me into it because you're bored.
[But he'll keep that in mind now. Even if he won't admit it.]
Offering as a-- [It finally makes sense. He stares vacantly, narrowing his eyes, voice incredulous.] Are you a vampire?
no subject
[ She nods. ] Complete with teeth and super-strength.
no subject
Is that supposed to scare me? If you're so strong, you can try to find someone else. But I'll stop you. Will not drinking blood kill you?
no subject
[ She stretches her arms above her head. People stopped believing her long before she got good at lying. No one believes street rats after all. ]
I was answering your question, not making a threat. I didn't make me this way.
no subject
[He's getting a headache trying to wrap his head around it. He knows he probably shouldn't even be trying. Emerald basically admitted she'd always be loyal to Cinder. He would never forgive Cinder and he doubted she'd even care, but what he would do is keep trying to stop her until eventually they did.
He kept telling himself that. But would it stop with her? It hadn't here. That's what troubled him.]
Let me ask you something else. Do you have to...do it like in the movies? You know. Sucking?
no subject
[ God he was giving her a headache. The last thing she wanted to talk about was how she was the only one who seemed to feel anything when that happened. The last thing she wants to admit to is being the perceived weak link, in case Cinder comes back. In case Mercury decides it matters. ]
I don't know if I have to do anything besides not starve.
no subject
[He glances down, his expression closing off again.]
Fair enough. [He puts a hand to his neck, as if she already went for a vital point, before lowering it. He eyes his hands, arms--he can't do that. He reaches for the small blade in his pocket.] We're not friends or allies, but letting someone starve would be, it's wrong. I'll help but only if I know you'll let me. I'm not injuring myself for no reason.
no subject
[ She starts laughing at that. ] Says the guy who just crushed food under his feet to spite me. Very funny.
no subject
I'm not joking. Look. I messed up. Please let me fix it. ...Do you have a water bottle or something?
no subject
Do I look like I have a water bottle on me?[ emerald doesn't carry that stuff with her.. ]
no subject
I'm just trying to make this less awkward. [He frowns, but it's not at her, it's in hesitation as he grips the knife, not wanting to drop it. He has to focus on blocking out his Aura because it would unconsciously fight against what he's about to do He doesn't always accurately perceive what is and isn't an attack anymore and his Aura picks up on that. Technically, this is one..]
Okay. No going back. [In a quick movement that isn't graceful at all, he grits his teeth and stabs himself in the thigh, his eyes screwed up as he bites back a whimper. The knife slips out of his hand. Trying to control his Aura, emotions and pain at the same time proves to be too much and he collapses. His hand strays to the wound and he starts trying to let the blood pool in it, fighting off the reflex to put pressure on it. Glancing up at Emerald, he's vulnerable. If he missed activating his Aura for a split-second, Emerald could easily injure him. But his Aura is still there. He can defend himself if he needs to.] Hurry up. I'm not going to let myself bleed out.
no subject
[ Emerald looks surprised when he actually cuts himself. For her of all people. He's got to be joking. He is, right? She looks around like she's expecting the prank cameras to come out, but the smell of blood makes her stomach rumble. It's been too long because she has been trying to keep herself clean. The only person she's killed here was because she couldn't have witnesses or she'd get Mercury in trouble. And in her defense, the guy was tormenting a puppy and she didn't start it, she just finished it. She hops down off the cement half-wall and moves closer to him, holding her hands out beneath his for a couple of seconds as if expecting to collect it, but the smell is too strong and she's too hungry. A second later she grabs his wrist and pulls it up to her mouth to start sucking on the wound. There's an obvious distaste in her expression when the taste hits her lips. Should it taste this bad..? It wasn't bitter or sweet like most poisons were, though, so would it be okay? After that brief hesitation, Emerald closes her eyes and starts up again. Don't waste it. ]
no subject
[He keeps his eyes on hers; for the most part, he's bad at hiding his emotions, and it's clear he's nervous. The wound stings against the air, but now that it's done it doesn't hurt that much. He bites his lip and waits in trepidation, tensing up when she starts sucking. But it doesn't feel bad--it actually kind of helps. His screws his eyes shut for a moment and blinks at her a few times, eyes becoming dazed. Did she not like the way it tasted? A vampire who doesn't like blood.
Not that it's any weirder than an incubus who freaks out over sex.]
no subject
Blood tasted like iron. Not like.. like this. She knew she could see his wings and horns, but it was still Jaune and it was still blood. Keep it down. ]
Here, sure. Here everyone has a million handicaps to watch out for them. So I'm doing my best not to cause trouble for Mercury. I sleep on his couch. The only jobs I've managed to get are ones I'm terrible at or I have because the owner likes staring at me, but I still have one so I can help out and buy dinner. [ Though mostly to cover for the stealing- but she can't stop that. She doesn't exactly think she has a lot of skills besides what Cinder's taught her and survival. ] So yes, I'm trying. It doesn't make me able to stand any of you and if Cinder comes back, I'll obey her but...
[ She trails off, largely because she doesn't feel right. Emerald's arm goes to cover her stomach. Concentrate on the conversation, don't gag. She's had worse, she knows she has. ]

As she spotted one of her least favorite people she tried not to look to visibly annoyed. Though now she did wish she had stuck to Fayren and visited the fish market there. But she had hoped to bring something home that Yang would also like to eat.
Just take a breath and walk past her. It's not like you have to make small talk.]

Emerald sticks her tongue out at Blake between her little vampire canines. ]
no subject
Calm down, you already knew she was a snake. That's all it was.
Besides, Emerald was nothing without her boss to lead her around. She felt a little surge of satisfaction as she reminded herself of that.]
