What the hell is an NPC?

It's basically like a background character in a book. They're there, but they don't ever get enough development to really be 'human.' It's a term from games from some peoples' worlds, we used to use it for these things in one of the worlds I used to be from since they looked like people but they weren't anything more than like.. empty shells made to appear normal.

So what the hell is the point of them if they aren't real?

I'm not 100% sure here, but back where I was before they were just to make everything seem more normal. If it were a completely abandoned world with only the few people that exist here, it'd be really disconcerting, right? Not that being surrounded by freaky fake things is any comfort, but I think that's the logic.

That's stupid. I would rather them not have any of these NPC things here, especially if they aren't here to do anything but fill space.

You're not going to find any arguments here. I think they're kind of creepy, personally.
