... So I have a few things that I feel I need to say.

... Thank ye. To those of ye that came while I was ill the other day. Thank ye fer your help, and thank ye for gettin' me over it. Can't say it's entirely gone, but it's better than it was.

I ain't apologizin' to any of ye that broke in and sat on me, because that didn't help, but if ye wanted to come back and visit, I wouldn't blast yer dirty face off at the door. Just knock this time.

Second, I've a real house now what's got real heatin' in it and a proper furnace. I'll only be at the shop if the weather is too bad to walk home. Tis a subgate, ye can't miss it. Little red brick house with a fence and a pond near some woods. Knock.

Ye walk in without askin' and I can't promise ye will walk out.

We're gettin' a bit closer to Christmas as well, I'm sure ye all saw the bloody newspaper.

[That was a surprise. He definitely hadn't been expecting anything.]

A-And you have a brand new place?

[His smile got even bigger. Though he was wary of subarches, he didn't immediately attach 'subgate' to the same thing.]

Th-That was real fast. I want to see!

[Honestly, he was just happy to hear that Cassian had a better, more comfortable home. He didn't like leaving him in a cold, dreary place.]

Aye, I'll send ye the directions. Don't feel pressured to bring anything, lad.

[He shook his head emphatically.]

I-I want to see it.

[Seeing a nice, strong home would put him at ease.]

H-How did you build it so fast?

I gave up whiskey for a subarch.

[For a moment he tried to figure out how one could build a brick home by giving up whiskey, but finally he pieced it together.]

W-Wait, you... you made a subarchway?

Aye.

Tis a great deal more comfortable than the shop. Even has the frog pond, I was a mite bit surprised about that.

A-Are you okay? T-Ted said... Ted said it's really b-bad to make one of those.

Bracken. Ted would say breathin' was bad if it was written in the bible.

The house is fine, I'm fine. I had to toss me whiskey, but other than depression, I'm fine.

D-Does the Bible say th-that?

[For months he'd been under a bad impression of subarchways, so it was hard to brush away those doubts immediately. He listened to Cassian, but he also fretted.]

You're... You're depressed?

If it did, there'd be no Ted, now would there?

I was until I found the bourbon.

O-Oh... I saw one b-before, but it looked really c... confusing. S-So, I wasn't sure.

Is... Is bourbon d-different from whiskey?

[He really knew zilch about alcohol. But he didn't need to be drinking anyway.]

[Of course, soon was as fast as his feet could take him. He did listen and didn't bother to bring anything besides himself, showing up and knocking on the door as he looked around. It was a little odd having to knock now, but he supposed it would be weird just to walk into his house.]

[There's the distinct sound of papers rustling, and a CLICK, before the door opens. Depending on Bracken's magical knowledge, he may be fully aware that the various decorative papers hanging at the top of the door were wards, as well as the iron horseshoe placed just barely beyond that.

Or he might not. Either way, nothing happens as Cassian actually opens the door. The inside looks... warm, for once, and the house full of things. Odd things, by the looks of it]

Made it over right quick I see. Come in, take your shoes off at the door.

[Wards weren't his specialty, but he could always learn. He gazed around at the new surroundings, looking but not touching, and was glad to see that it did look warm. Much like when he first entered Cassian's shop, he was hesitant to meddle with anything, inching in with his hands on his staff in front of him.

But he did sit on the floor to pull of his shoes. They were just a step away from beind straight-up boots, thick and high to protect his feet from the forest shrubbery. He set them by the door with the same neatness as the other shoes and got back up.]

I-It's a lot warmer here... What's... What's all that?

[Cassian sure did keep strange things around.]

All what?

[He looked to the wards he had hanging, gesturing at them]

That's me home defense system. Keeps the place safe from people who don't knock.

Wh-What's it do if you don't knock?

[He looked up at them, but they didn't seem all that dangerous.]

A lot of things.

[We'll leave it at that]

Just remember to knock and wait for me to open the door. I don't like surprises.

[He'd head into the house further, the living area a touch cramped and filled to the brim with oddities. A preserved octopus in a massive jar, a series of what appeared to be tiny mummified humans with delicate, leaf like wings pinned inside frames, diagrams of various cryptids, what looked like a unicorn horn, the mounted head of an ant that might have been the size of a great dane, and a skull that had been carefully reformed into a silver lined chalice. To name a few.

Cassian had taken a seat in a massive, overstuffed chair, Bracken had a choice of a series of similarly styled chairs, a few that appeared to have legs made of what almost looked like bull horns-]

Take a seat wherever ye like.

I-I'll try to remember.

[Never mind how incredibly forgetful he was. He tried to hide that.

The octopus was just strange. It was the winged human creature that first alarmed him, as he went over to look closely.]

Is... Is that a person?

[He didn't really make a distinction between races or species. It was just 'person' and 'not a person'.]

Mummified troopin' fairies. Found 'em in the attic of a parishioner who said a few of his ancestors used to catch 'em. I've had to get them all examined to make sure they're old enough to keep.

Because aye, they're people accordin' to the law now. Tweren't then. They've what been deemed oddities and antiques now, so they're fair trade to own.

Same as the skull over on the cabinet.

[He eyed them pitifully. It was hard to think that if they could talk and everything, they wouldn't have been considered people. They seemed to have met a sad fate, being pinned like that. Being mummified somehow seemed worse than just having a skeleton or something. They still looked people-ish. He cast a concerned glance at the skull as well before sitting in one of the chairs. He didn't so much care about decorations and stuff made from horns. He was used to farming regularly at home for such items - more beasts would always spawn. It was really only the people who mattered.]

Th-That's really sad. They... They remind me of L-Lilia, but, tiny.

Times were different then. I shant be rid of them, they're far too important anatomically.

They're considered medical history currently as well as magical.

Tis sad, perhaps, but there ain't a thing to be done about it now. They've been dead for centuries.

[He nodded. It wasn't something he'd ever been into, but he couldn't disparage others for studying anatomy.

He folded his hands on his lap, still looking around.]
