[Action] A New Arrival in Town
[Garrus has been in many strange situations before. He's been in many strange cities, hell, many strange planets , but Genessia might take the dextro-based cake. To be stuck somewhere, unable to get away even by ship? It was weird, even for his standards. There were races he had never even heard. Every city was remarkably different, even technology-wise, and in Nova City, the place he had decided to call home a few days ago, a young girl - a human (nothing wrong with that, but it was odd since they didn’t even have a spot on the Council yet) - seemed to be in charge. He had followed her instructions, albeit warily, and, well, they were right. Everything she said seemed to be true, from the housing to the pendants - he had checked. He'd be impressed if he weren't used to Shepard. But those days were long gone.
Living in a city meant finding a source of income and, well, Garrus was never one for peace and quiet. He briefly considered joining the police there, but memories of too much Red Tape in C-section haunted him, so he decided against that. He had read a list of bounties, though, and he had fortunately been transported with his Archangel helmet. He'd slipped it on before ducking out of his building , intending to introduce the vagabonds to the new vigilante in town when he happened to pass a man attacking a woman in an ally. He shrugged. A crime was a crime. He reached for his assault rifle before realizing he didn't know the city's rules on the matter - he was here to solve problems not start them. He cracked his neck. It had been awhile since he had had a good spar.
A few minutes and a disappointing fight later, an unconscious mugger was slung over his shoulder. Not knowing where to bring him, he headed off in the direction he thought led to the Guardian’s office, the body of the man thrown over his shoulder. After a few wrong turns, he finally arrived at the right place, opened the door, and strode into the lobby.]

((ooc: While this is aimed towards people currently in the Guardian's building, other people may interact with him on his way there so long as they do not prevent him from reaching the office since this was a quasi-planned thing.))

[chaos, for his part, actually stops to watch the (obviously non-human to his perceptions, but pulling it off well enough with the armor and helmet) Turian pass by with his odd, profoundly unconscious cargo. That's some interesting gear you've got there, Garrus - powered armor on the human scale isn't really a thing where chaos is from; the people of his universe tended to go more in the direction of cybernetics and mecha. You've piqued his interest. And, well, he's nominally an engineer now. So, new thing to study!]
Interesting armor you've got there. [Interesting gun, too, for that matter - its working principles are completely alien to chaos, which is an actual first. His universe never discovered mass effect technology.]
no subject
Is it? It's pretty standard issue.
[He's trying to figure out what this kid is after, because it sure as hell can't be his armor. Did he know the unconscious guy he was carting around? Maybe they worked the streets together - they came in all sorts back on Omega. He doesn't seem like he's looking for trouble, but he maintains a distance of a few feet just in case.]
no subject
For this place? Yeah. It would be unique where I came from, too. [chaos doesn't approach - he knows well enough that any sign of perceived aggression would cause a fight, and though he can handle himself, he'd rather not get into anything he'd have to explain later. Besides, Garrus strikes him as the kind of person he wouldn't mind being friends with. He can't read the Turian the way he can a human, at least not without actual effort, but surface thoughts and emotions come across just fine - and they all speak to him of a person of honor.]
Sorry. I didn't mean to alarm you; I'm working as an engineer in this world. Helping to supply the local authorities with something to better protect them from the kind of threats they face from certain outworlders would go a long way toward building trust between them and us.
no subject
A different set of armor might help with that.]Sorry, kid. Not my area. I know someone who might be able to help you, though. New guy in town named Garrus Vakarian. Guy knows his tech. Wears armor similar to mine.
[Or exactly like his. It might be bad form to talk himself up like that, but hey, he had to make connections somewhere, right? Especially if the kid was looking to help the good guys. Of course, the local authorities could only do so much, which is where he stepped in. Engineer by day, vigilante by night... not a bad set of goals.
He frowns under his helmet, considering the last thing he had said.]
You saying the cops don't trust their citizens here? Why's that?
[It was hardly surprising - most of the places he had been didn't, but it was still good intel to have.]
no subject
[He's not going to let on that your secret isn't so secret, Garrus. Tact, he has it. He will smile politely and nod at the suggestion.] I'll see if I can get in touch with him. If nothing else, could you pass a message to him? I work with Aster Technologies, in the aerospace division. Ask for chaos; they'll know who to send him to.
His secret identity works better when there are other turians okay
Aster Technologies... He's pretty sure he'd seen it on the map he grabbed when he first arrived. If not, he's sure someone around here will know the way.]
If I happen to see him I'll pass it along. [He pauses, considering.] What are you doing in aerospace? I thought there was no way off planet. [And what good would that do the police?]
That's the trouble with secret identities
Re: That's the trouble with secret identities
Hold up.]
Someone's threatening to destroy the planet?
[Not that that was possible, even with mass effect technology, so far as he was aware. But still. Someone he might want to keep an eye on.]

[That's... um... wow. The 'Not the only one who has that kind of power' part was not very promising, but, hey, he was used to walking into hell. And so far he'd come back every time. Of course, this time he'd be without Shepard, but he'd cross that bridge if and when he got there.]
Any other "credible threats" I should know about?
[Because why stop with one death wish?]

[Like biotics? Or something completely different? Perhaps best not to find out.]
Nova City seems like the only place with tech that comes close to what I'm used to. [A pause.] Though they might have us beat on elevators.
But I'm sure that with some tinkering I can get this city up to speed. [Hopefully chaos doesn't notice his slip up there.]
And as for the bad guys, they'll come out of the woodwork soon enough - they don't tend to stay quiet for long.
no subject
[He did, but then he'd already plucked as much from your surface thoughts, Garrus. Don't worry. Your secret's safe with him.]
I'm sure they will. In the meantime, it's up to those of us who would stand against them to make sure they don't have the upper hand when that time comes. On that note, I should probably head back. If I can get a logic drive functional here, I might just be able to build a ship.
no subject
Right. Thanks for the tips. And talk to Vakarian; his expertise is more mechanical, but he might be able to help you out with the drive.
[He's no Tali, but he's pretty good with electronics.]
Maybe a bit with the ship, too.
[Especially its weapons systems.]
no subject
[And chaos is no Shion, but between the two of them they should be able to get something figured out. If nothing else, it'll be interesting to try and combine logic drives and mass effect propulsion.]
no subject
I sincerely hope he's still alive.
[ Because they're going to have a very different conversation depending on whether he is or isn't, and Weiss isn't going to get close enough to check until she has reason to believe that he's not an imminent danger. ]
no subject
Relax, Princess. I didn't kill him. Just knocked him out for attacking a woman. I'm new to town and didn't know what you did with trash like him, so I thought I'd bring him here. You are the one in charge here, right?
[Despite the precarious situation, his tone is completely relaxed, like he's had similar conversations before. He's certain she'll calm down once she realizes he was just doing his civic duty and let him go on his way. Omega had been that way too, at first. All "who do you think you are" and "you can't do that" but they soon realized the good he was doing
not like anyone else wasand backed off. Weiss would be the same.]no subject
I am. And.. while I appreciate you bringing him in if he is an assailant as you said, did you bring the witness with? Did you bring evidence of what you're actually saying or when he wakes up, is he going to tell me that you jumped him and decided to bring him in so you could get credit for it and I'll have no evidence against either of you, which means no one is actually getting punished for whatever crime was actually committed?
[ Weiss was many things, but unfortunately, trusting was no longer one of them. Vigilant was. Unless he brought any actual proof that he wasn't the one who assaulted the guy unfoundedly, she couldn't consider his word truth. That was one of the reasons that Nova City was the only city with a licensing program for bounty hunters- to make sure that everyone played by the rules. ]
Next time you decide to play good samaritan, I recommend knocking him unconscious and calling the police, then gathering the information of your witnesses to support your story. I can't just arrest people on the basis that someone beat them up and brought them in and said they did something to deserve it first.
no subject
Let me get this straight. You think the woman being assaulted stuck around? She ran as soon as the attention was off of her. I'm not going to track down a scared woman just so she can make a statement.
[This was exactly why he left C-Sec. Too much red tape.]
Besides, even if I had called the cops like a good little boy scout, she still would have run and he could just claim the same thing. Wouldn't change a thing, according to you.
[Not that Garrus believed he would lie, not if he was there when he woke up - Garrus hadn't exactly gone easy on him.
And despite what she thought, this wasn't about credit. He saw someone in need, he helped them. His reputation would form on its own, just like it did on Omega.]
And let's say for a moment I had attacked him unfoundedly. Why would I bring the guy in instead of just leaving him back in the alley? I don't know this guy. For all I know he could be your best friend. And then whose word would carry more weight? I'm one of the good guys, trust me.
no subject
[ She holds her hand out as if she's metaphorically holding out another suggestion. ]
There are plenty of people who would bring in people just for the glory of being treated like a hero or hoping to get rid of someone for good without having blood on their hands. I'm not just going to trust every person who brings me an unconscious body, and I can't arrest someone without evidence. You find me a witness, then we'll talk. Otherwise, I can take his information but that's the most I can do.
no subject
So what, I'm just supposed to watch as the girl gets mugged while I wait for the police to appear? Sorry, sweetheart. I don't work that way.
[Play nice, Garrus. Getting even further on her bad side isn't going to help any.]
Look, why don't you just ask around for the woman yourself. Red hair and freckles, just like - [He cut off. Stop thinking about her. She's gone.] - like that. That's how she looked. If you throw his face up on a screen asking for information I'm sure she'll come forward.
[He could probably find her himself, but it would be easier for them, what with the resources they probably had.]
no subject
[ Though he does make a good point about the photo, so she's taking out her device to take one. She also takes a photo of Garrus's face, for equity. ]
I made an archangel icon so it's easier to keep track of - double identities are hard
He nods - what else can he say? She just keeps shooting him down. Really, he's starting to miss the anarchy of Omega.]
Fine, but when he attacks someone else don't come crying to me about it.
[Not that he'd get the chance; Garrus is planning on keeping a pretty close eye on the guy once he's released.]
sounds good
I can guarantee I wouldn't or they wouldn't have elected me to be City Guardian in the first place.
[ At least she's got confidence. She goes to cuff the guy though. If he's violent when he wakes up it'll be more than enough reason to hold him, cuffing is a precaution. ]
Of course, if he confesses when he wakes up it won't be an issue. What did you say your name was?
Re: sounds good
Just call me Archangel.
[Did someone say confidence]no subject
Is that an alias or your actual name?
no subject
Does it matter?
[He has a feeling she's going to say it does, but it's all she's going to get from him.]
no subject
Yes, absolutely.
no subject
It's my name.
[At least while the helmet's on it is.]
