[David starts up the video feed and stacks of paper can be seen beside him as he's sitting in the Guardian's Office. He’s been pulling all-nighters for the last few weeks, but he’s finally reached the mountain top of paperwork. Though a Guardians work is never really done.]

With everything that has happened, I’ve yet to have a chance to say this. But thank you to everyone that helped not only defend Genessia City, but every other city during the breach. Even if you only helped people get to the safe houses, I still want to extend my gratitude to you and I hope all of you got through it okay.

All things considered, just like last time, we’ve learned more about this place because of this situation. Though, ideally we could discover more about this place without it taking some massive event for more information to be discovered.

A small word of warning too. Given how many of the creatures from outside made their way inside, some could possibly still linger around. I plan to make some rounds through the cities for the next couple of weeks to check, if anyone wants to join, they are more than welcomed to. If anyone happens to spot any while they happen to be out, please report it.

I don't think you will find much issue with that here. There was someone that looked far younger than you who worked as a detective around here. More people are willing to judge you on your ability to do the job than your age.

I'm still waiting for the full report, so I can't say for sure, but I don't think it was because it became weak. When it became weak before, we had to give up things to give it power and restore it. That didn't happen this time around.

Was there? It seems I'll have shoes to fill again. But that is a relief to hear. I had thought things worked quite differently here since I was allowed a badge at all without people focusing on age as a qualification. It really shouldn't matter in the long run, if one can do the job equal to or even better than what is required. One of the other guardians is around my age, correct?

What did you give up?

Yes. One of the currently running Guardian candidates are probably around your age too. As well as some deputies. If someone very young can be given the duties of a Guardian without much fuss, then you can probably have just about any job here.

A memory, though what it was a memory of I can't exactly remember.

This place can take memories from you? If you've forgotten, how can you be sure it only took the one you were willing to give?

Thank you, I'm glad I'm not one of them either. I've had enough rough dealings with adults in my lifetime.

You honestly can't be. But sometimes it's not a memory that you give up, but a talent or skill or power. It generally just have to be something that's actually meaningful. And at least if a person gives up a power, talent or skill, they've usually only lost one and not multiple.

Had it been hard for you growing up?

That's quite unnerving that anything would be capable of stripping you of such things. And you make it sound as if this is a common occurrence outside of major events.

Yeah. I don't know how it compares to most kids lives growing up, but I definitely didn't have it easy.

It is. It's part of how this place functions. A person can even give up an ability or memory to open a sub-archway to a place in their world. It's not the real place, but more so a copy. There are quite a few sub-archways opened.

Because of what you could do?

So it's copying memories and making a projection of the location based on them? These sub-archways sound like a trap for the homesick. What purpose could they serve outside of easing a bit of heartache? You can't possibly interact properly with anyone in there.

That's part of it. In my world, people like myself are labeled Mutants. We all have what is called an X-Gene that gives us abilities or changes us physically. The possibilities of what the gene can cause seems endless. We aren't looked kindly upon by a lot of humans. We are regularly discriminated against or attacked, either out of fear or because they view us as abominations.

Being homesick could play a big part in it. But some open them for other reasons, like they have something stored in a specific location that they want to retrieve or they can only obtain specific foods or items in that certain area, ect. I know some people that have opened them up to live there.
