Video; Important questions okay
[While most everyone seems to be suffering from the heatwave, Dorian seems less than annoyed by it all when the feed initializes. Now, he's not wearing his robes, and his dark shoulders prove he's wearing an outfit without sleeves, but he seems perfectly comfortable, more so than usual, one could say.
He looks rather pleased with himself, also, and while most of his surroundings aren't in view, it's plain the device is nestled on a desk surrounded by very untidy notes in a flowing hand and that said desk is surrounded by bookshelves that are equally in a state of disarray. No one every accused Dorian of being an orderly worker.]
Hello, Genessia! You know, all this talk of a heatwave, and all the lamentation thereof, have gotten me thinking about weather. I know, I know. It's the topic of bores and the unenlightened, something to fill the void at an awkward social gathering, what have you. But, the reason I bring it up is simple: this weather is much more similar to my homeland, which, coincidentally, is in the north of the land from which I hail.
[He folds his hands in front of him on the desk, leaning forward slightly in interest.]
What I would like to know is this: is warmer weather where you come from associated with the north...or the south? Call it a research project.

Are you tellin' me to go out and get drunk? Because that's the kind of advice I will take no matter what. Though we don't got anything from any of our worlds here - do we? Shit, I should look into that. I could do a tour of the universe in booze...
That's kinda weird, though. I mean, I wouldn't have taken your world for being some kinda backwards hillbilly place where they're still afraid to cross the water, but really? You've never been to other islands or lands before?
[He shakes his head.] It isn't about fear, Bartolomeo. I've been to a few islands. Most we, due to a long-standing war, aren't really allowed to visit. I've visited many other lands without our own, yes, but the northern seas, and those to the east? None of have ever returned. Oh, intrepid adventurers try, certainly, but they never come back. Maybe it's a paradise, they say at least, and they don't want to come back.
Interestingly enough, during my work with the Inquisition, we received a tip from an organization claiming to hail from a land across the eastern sea. They were concerned about the rift in the sky as well, and offered a bit of information, claiming we would never hear from them again.
...even our Spymaster couldn't determine where the missive came from, but the information was correct.
Huh. You got me, then, you're more of a traveler after all. Just a few islands, though?
I guess I can't be too harsh on your poor adventurers, just because I've been halfway around the world and into dangerous waters doesn't mean everyone who ever boards a ship is so lucky. I keep hearing how many die before they even get to the Red Line, but there's still plenty that make it past there.
They say there are monstrous sea creatures that dwell in the northern sea, black-skinned, no scales. Maws full of razor sharp teeth. Not gentle creatures, like whales, though they say they're of a size, and that they eat flesh, and any will do.
[Those are orcas, Dorian.]
Really? Damn. I've never seen land that big before! I don't even know what to think anymore.
You think that's scary? Man, we've got sharks just like that, ain't no big deal. Krakens and sea kings are even bigger! [why is he bragging, he didn't make them] 'Least, I've heard about the Kraken. Never seen one myself.
[He pauses.]
I'll pass on ships all the same, thank you. I'd rather travel over land.
[KIDDING. Though he doesn't sound like it]
Heheh. Don't get me wrong, pirates live on the sea, but I was a mob boss first and I've only been away from land for two years. They both have their good sides and their dangerous sides.
[...just really, Barty?]
I know! We have our share of problems with pirates. Qarinus is a sea port, after all! I just don't, personally, find the waves at sea agreeable. I'd much prefer a nice sail on a lake or...something like that.
Yeah, well, at least here you don't gotta worry about the sea. Nice quiet lake cruises are about all anyone can get anymore.
[He pauses for a moment, looking thoughtful.]
Do you miss it?

[Damn you, Bartolomeo. Just...damn you.]
That's...ridiculous. Utterly.
Isn't it, though? Kyehehehahahaaha! Totally crazy.
Well, at least on a night like this it means you've got good company.
Oh, do I? Would you be so kind as to direct me to them?
[He shakes his head.]
I do enjoy your company, Captain. You shouldn't let your ego bruise so easily.
Nah, it's too hot to get all huffy. It's cool, man. I mean, not literally, but...bah, you get what I mean.

We really should see to those rounds sometime.
