[Just outside of every entrance to the Bay, new arrivals might find a magazine stand stacked with fliers, each one with a sign overhead saying "READ ME." On the flier itself is a message.]

DON'T PANIC
If you're reading this you've probably just woken up in a strange place and are very confused.
Welcome to the club.

What I can tell you is that you're safe, this isn't a trick, and, no, we don't know any way back yet. The packet you woke up with should give you more information and include some cash and an apartment key.

[And that's when Harry looks at the communicator and sees the disconnected message.

Wait. She....

She hung up on him?!]

[It takes Ruby about half an hour to recover from her embarrassment. It's a much longer process without Yang to take her mind off of things.

When she does recover, she'll pick up the communicator again and give Harry another ring. When he does answer, before he has a chance to say anything she'll start talking.]

[It takes Harry about that long to get moving anyway. He hadn't recognized the voice on the other side, which meant that new people were being brought in again, which meant the city was active. And that meant that Something Had Happened.

Somethings Happening was never a good thing in Harry's world.

So he's out on the street when Ruby's next call comes in.]

Hey--

[Holy crap, there she goes.]

Yea--

Um--

Oka--

[And after that he just gives up and lets her ramble it out until he catches a lull in the rapid-fire apology. Even so, he takes a second just to be sure and then....]

No harm done, kid.

[And she lets out the biggest sigh of relief.]

Really!? That's great. Well I'll let you get back to whatever wizardy things you have to do then!

[Well, she sure bounces back quick.]

Hang on a second.

[Because even so, she sounds awfully young.]

Are you, uh... okay?

[Cause, y'know... strange place and all that.]

Me? Yeah, I'm great. Why wouldn't I be?

[There's a brief pause and then some whispering.]

It's not like I woke up in some weird place and have no idea if I'll ever see any of my friends except Jaune again. Oh man I have no idea what I'm doing...

Y-yeah, everything's great.

[Harry's hearing is pretty good, so he catches most of that whispering.]

You need somebody to pick you up or something?

Uh... Uhmm... erm....

[She plays with the thought for awhile, not sure what to say. She eventually figures that if anything goes wrong with this guy, she can just beat him up with her scythe. But he has a flier? That means he must be alright, right?]

Y-yeah, sure. Why not?

[Harry's on the level, but props to Ruby for thinking that answer over. The kid's got a good head on her shoulders.]

[He doesn't know she's packing a giant scythe-rifle. Won't that be a surprise? Haha!]

I'm a few minutes away from the Bay. Are you still hanging out around there?

No. I left a little while ago. I'm on-

[She looks around for a sign.]

Fifteenth? Just down the road from a diner.

I know the place. Sit tight.

[And it's just a couple of minutes later when she can hear the sound of an approaching engine, and a big old truck rolls into view.

Said truck looks like it's seen better days too, which is another way of saying it looks beat to hell and just barely holding together.]

... You've got to be kidding me.

[Is basically Harry's reaction when he gets a good look at Ruby, specifically her outfit. He pulls up not far from her and looks out the truck window.]

... Pretty far off from grandmother's house, huh?

[Ruby was just by the corner, minding her own business when Harry's truck pulls up.

She makes a very confused face at his question.]

Uhmmm... Yeah, kind of like in a whole different world.

...You had a flier about that.

You are Harry, right? You sound a lot like him.

[She didn't get it.]

[He gets that. Maybe it was just a coincidence after all.]

Yeah, that's me. Ruby, right?

[Speaking of things that have seen better days, Harry probably qualifies. He's sitting so she can't see how freakishly tall he is, but he's wearing his worn leather duster and looks a bit rumpled overall, with a few days of stubble on his face, a black glove on his left hand and a nasty looking scar running from his left eye down to his jaw. Pretty clearly made by something with some nasty claws.]

That's me! Ruby Rose at your service!

[Oh man that sounded a lot more dorkish than she wanted it to.

She stands up and gives the truck and Harry a quick look over, it was pretty clear neither of them were in the best shape, but you can't judge a book by it's cover, right?

She'll walk over toward the passenger seat and climb in. She'll keep Crescent Rose folded up and on her lap for now.]

So... Have you been here long?

[He manages not to wince when Ruby gives out her full Name at the drop of a hat. It probably wasn't any big deal where she was from, but in his world, Names held real power and most people avoided giving them to a wizard.

Still, he files that one away. Not everything that could be done with a Name was a bad thing, after all.]

You can toss your, uh... thing in the backseat if you want. [He points his thumb over his shoulder to the back, empty except for a long wooden rune-carved staff sitting across the seat. There's a shotgun under a blanket too. And then he sighs at her question.]

A long while now. About two years.

[He leaves off that, honestly, it kind of beats the alternative from where he left home.]

I'll carry Crescent Rose for now, if that's okay.

[It's not that she didn't trust Harry, he seemed pretty cool and scruffy too, but she just woke up in a strange world and wants to keep her baby close to her for now.]

Two years? Wow... I really hope I'm not here that long,I have class tomorrow.

[Crescent Rose. So the... whatever it was had a name. He's not quite sure what to make of the thing but it looked fairly high tech, and important to her the way she held it.

Once she's settled in, he starts up the engine and heads off down the road. Time to take the Little Red Riding Hood lookalike apartment hunting.]

You and me both, kid.

[It isn't what he wants to say. He wants to tell her not to worry about it, and that they'll all be back home before they know it, but even he doesn't have a whole lot of faith in that.

Instead.]

So, what do you like in an apartment?

[The question causes her to pause for a little. She really doesn't need a whole lot. She's used to living in a dorm with three other girls. She'll be happy with just her own room and a kitchen.

...But then there's Jaune. He may be older than her, but well... would he be fine taking care of himself? Maybe it would be best if she found something for the both of them. For now.]

Uh... Honestly I've never really thought of it.

But we should find something with two bedrooms. I have a friend who showed up here too.

[Honestly, Harry isn't convinced that Ruby living on her own was a good idea either. She couldn't have been more than, what... fourteen, fifteen years old?

Maybe he could check in on her from time to time. Bring groceries or....

Hell's bells, he was getting old. She'd probably be fine. Hell, Raye, was a kid and it seemed like she managed even better than he did most of the time.]

Ah, well, that's good. It's probably better than living alone.

So, your friend? She need a lift too while we're at it.

[Because it's not like Ruby was going to be sharing an apartment with a guy right? Haha! That would be ridiculous.]

Yeah. Well, may as well stick together when you're in some crazy other world, right?

[There's a nervous chuckle at that, which only gets worse when asks about Jaune.]

She's a he actually, and well he might.

We kind of split up for cover more ground, I haven't heard from him in awhile.

[That gets a sloooow sideways glance from him.]

[Harry. Harry. It's none of your business, Harry. It's--]

Okay, so two apartments it is. Nice and several doors apart. Maybe even on separate floors.

[Such an old-fashioned guy.]

[Woah, woah, woah. She just wants to make sure the guy doesn't hurt himself while he's making breakfast or any other time of day.]

Sure! That sounds great.

[Well this guy is a lot like her dad.]
