Mayoral Address #2 | Action/Video [Open]
[All citizens would have received an alert notifying them of a mayoral address in which Mayor Schnee will be challenging the ways in which things have been done around the city and will be making a “commitment to a better tomorrow for all citizens.” For those who wish to attend, they should head over to City Hall where the event will be taking place. Any others, be them citizens of Nova or not, are able to enjoy the speech from the comfort of wherever.
The stage is set with a podium in the middle. Jacques strolls across the stage expertly dressed, gracing the audience with a smile and waving politely to the cameras as he takes his place.]
Good evening, all, and thank you so much for coming. It has been my pleasure to serve Nova City for the past couple of months. I’ve held off on making any notable changes, electing rather to see what works and what needs fixing. However, when I accepted this position, I swore an oath to do whatever I could to make Nova City the best that it can be, and I intend to uphold that oath.
A couple of months ago, when I first became mayor, a rather serious issue was brought to my attention. Unfortunately, change does not happen overnight, but it is with greatest pride that I am here to tell you that a set of bills which makes all sentient citizens of Nova City equals has been passed under my guidance. This includes organic lifeforms, non-organic lifeforms, and anyone in between. We have in our vicinity some of the greatest minds and greatest people, and yet we dismiss them because they are not like the rest of us. Well no more! Look around you! We are all different here. We have humans, dragons, vampires, and many extraterrestrial races living together in harmony! Just because someone is made of a different material does not make them any less of a person. They are intelligent, insightful beings with real feelings and it’s time we acknowledge that and treat them as they are: equals.
So, without further ado, I would like to introduce the new laws which will be put into effect immediately:
Nova City's Non-Organic Life Form Protection Act: This act prohibits discrimination in employment on the basis of types of being and requires that employers reasonably accommodate any such individual who can otherwise perform a job. It also requires that they be paid the same wages as a fully organic being would be. Furthermore, it protects them from discriminatory actions once they are employed, just as is already done for other races, genders, etc.
Furthermore, International Human Rights Laws will now be referred to as Intergalactic Individual's Rights Laws to accommodate the large variety of backgrounds and beings here. We all come from different places and no one race should get preference over another. What most of us have known and considered as basic human rights will now apply to every race and sub-race that has ever and will ever come to Nova City.
Now, in order to assist the non-fully organics, we have created an office for them here at City Hall to assist them with any needs, concerns, or questions they may have. We have established an ambassador for those citizens who will speak on their behalf at any meetings the City Council holds, and I encourage you to speak up to them so that they make sure that they are addressing your desires effectively. We’ve also created a website for that office, which you can find at www.novacity.gov/nonorganics. Likewise, we have one for the organics at www.novacity.gov/organics so that it is easier for all citizens to get in touch with our offices. What we do we do for you, so it is imperative that you make your voice heard.
The Non-Organic’s website, which is for all non-fully organics, not just fully non-organics, also has a toll-free hotline which you can call to speak with someone for any matter which is personally upsetting you, such as an issue where you feel like you’re not being treated as an individual. We understand that this transition might not be taken well by every member of society and that it will take time, but we want you to know that we are here for you.
Both new websites also feature an FAQ section to help you all better understand each other with topics such as correct gender pronouns, clothing questions, basic biology, and more.
Once again, these bills are already in effect and anyone found violating them will be persecuted at the fullest extent of the law. Guardian Weiss Schnee has guaranteed me the cooperation of her Deputies to ensure that everyone is treated fairly.
To the Guardians of the other cities, this might not be an issue you face presently, but I urge you to join me in this endeavour before there is another preventable incident.
Thank you all for your time and attention to this very important matter. These are issues that cannot be taken lightly, and your cooperation is extremely important to us. Should you have any questions, please do reach out to the appropriate office.
[He gives another smile and a wave as he leaves the stage. If anyone wishes to speak to him, they can find him mingling with other members of the upper crust of the city, discussing the new bills with them.]
((ooc: please do not actually go to those links I made them up. Also the ambassador role is an npc roll but if your character has any issues you can pp or pm me the gist of their complaint so I can make note of it for just post in Jacques’ IC inbox if you want to make it between the two of them.))

Impressive speech, Mayor Schnee.

Thank you, Ms. Kiryuin. I hope that your business will support these changes. [He gives her a once over.] Might I say that you look ravishing tonight?
no subject
Indeed you may~
[She's not about to turn down praise like that.]
I look forward to working with your office to implement these changes. [She smirks, taking a sip of her drink as she mutters the rest into the cup.] Machine labor is cheaper after all...

Interesting. And I thought it was Everglade that had the discrimination issues.
[Maybe he hasn't paid enough attention? He'd have to explore Everglade again sometime to rectify that.]
...Jacques? [Wondering if it's okay to call him that...] I know our plans to meet have fallen through due to our respective duties. Shall we reschedule?
[Ah, so Qubine's noticed that he's blown off their meetings a few times, citing work as an excuse. Damn. He takes a rather large sip of wine - half stalling, and half for courage - before speaking up.]
Yes, my apologies. Implementing these new measures took the majority of my attention - big changes, and all that. But yes, yes of course let us set a time to meet! You said that Fayren was the best place for you, right?
[Not like back home. In any case, it's not like he can fault Jacques for blowing off their meeting, whatever the reason. Qubine's been a busy dragon himself.]
I see. I've had some things going on my end as well. I may have lost the Guardian election, but Yukiko has graciously offered a deputy position to the other candidates who ran for Fayren. It's better than nothing, I suppose...
[He shrugs, tilting his head.]
So yes, Fayren would be the best meeting place for me.

Not realising two-way audio was on, she began thinking to herself.]
Is it really possible for humans and monsters to co-exist...? This mayor looks human, but appearances can be deceiving if daemonblight had anything to say about it...
Video;
I am fully human. Just because I am supporting those who are not doesn't mean that I am a monster. I would also prefer that you did not refer to our non-organic citizens as "monsters" or "demons." Just because they're made of something different does not make them any less a person than you or I.
[Yeah, he completely misunderstood her. He'd support her calling them monsters if this weren't such a public venue, though.]
Re: Video;
Eleanor hadn't realized she was heard so she needed a moment to compose herself.]
I-I do apologize, sir. I didn't mean anything from what I said. It's just...where I come from, ... I just find it very surprising that people and "non-organics" can live together.

Does Fayren see much of the same, Guardian Amagi?

Other than that, nothing else I know of. But I am trying my best to help those who have those problems get along.

[Why do robots have genders? They don't even have the parts built in them! Nonsense, that's what it is.]

[ He does arch a brow, gaze turning a little cooler again. It would be perfectly fine for some robots, but after the incident with Emerald... Well, he may be a little too touchy, seeing offense where there is none. Not that it matters, as long as the results are in his favor. ]
I understand. You might want to have that resolved by the time you speak to your synthetic citizens.

Organics and Non-Organics? [Nao blinks his eyes several times at that.] If one is not "organic", then are they considered living?
[Nao doesn't quite realize that everyone can hear his reply, so feel free to comment. He's quite confused about all this but at least he understand this bid at equality.]
Either way, this is a commendable speech.
Re: video.
[It totally, 100% does in Jacques' book, but since he chose to rule robo-town he needs to get their votes too.]

I'm glad to hear it! I want to make sure that every member of our society feels included, so it's good to know from an actual non-organic source that the measures I'm implementing are approved of by that community.
