The news circulating lately does make Guardian Haller seem particularly skilled, doesn't it? We hardly make the news. We're either very safe or not worth anyone's time. With so little incidents in Genessia City, I'm almost a bit bored. [ ... ] Oh. I hope I didn't jinx it just now.
Anyway. It just occurred to me that while I've been active around here for ...several months actually, I skipped going through with a formal public introduction. Completely slipped my mind!
Hello everyone. I'm Goro Akechi. I work for the Genessia City Police Department as a detective and do freelance sleuthing for things out of my jurisdiction. I'm sure many of you took this as an opportunity to try something new as an occupation but I ended up being a creature of habit and sticking to my field.
That being said, if you have a mystery to solve my services are available. I promise I won't tattle about any private cases to my coworkers.
It would help with an investigation of mine if I could pose a question or two to you all? Feel free to answer however you'd like.
What do you think the true purpose of the sub-archways are? If you're one of the few who have opened one yourself, might I ask what compelled you to? Would you do it if it hadn't had such a steep price?
Has anyone visited them all? Which ones would you consider a worthwhile trip?

[voice]
Unfortunately I don't have any insight for your questions. I've never felt a personal need to open nor visit any of the sub-archways. The cost isn't the issue so much as I prefer things without complication. Have you thought of opening one yourself?
[voice]
I see. It does seem rather complex, doesn't it? ...Me? No. I don't think I'll ever been homesick enough to bother creating a familiar location.
[voice]
Complex indeed, though I also fear the danger of making deals with such high prices to begin with, especially considering the reward is little more than a glorified illusion.
[voice]
It does seem unhealthy, doesn't it? To give in to a fantasy. But perhaps some of those who have done it had reasons outside of nostalgia. Opening one could provide certain resources otherwise unavailable to us. What do you think?
video;
[Compared to other places it seemed.]
As for sub-archways, I never personally don't it myself, but I already know no matter what I would never pay to have the place I live be here.
[More so after three years.]
Mostly because if the person who pays for it leaves, if there is still someone around it continues to stay even if you don't want it.
video;
[ Compared to other places. Yukiko always seems so busy with her guardian work. ]
Is there no way to remove it? That hardly seems fair.
video;
[At least being the word of the day.]
Not that I am aware of and believe me if I knew. Would have done it ages ago and it wouldn't be a problem.
video;
[ He definitely jinxed it now. ]
Do they cause a lot of problems?
video;
[She paused, should she really say something about it?]
Well before the person who opened one in particular left, it did cause problems for people.
[Kidnapping and making them face shadows in hopes they would be killed, that kind of thing.]
video;
[ The entire post might be a ploy to try to get someone to talk to him about suspicious TV channels. ]
Would it be offensive to ask for more detail about it?
video;
[She paused.]
I can't really go into detail because I was kind of out of commission during most of it. But it pretty much boils down to someone from my world kidnapping people and forcing them in the subarchway.
[ Voice]
But it seems people become homesick, and it doesn't matter to them if the place they create isn't real.
[ A pause. In the same even tone: ]
Illusions seem to be more comforting than fact.
[Voice]
Still, I think the illusions would become terribly unnerving. It can not progress and stays stuck in the very memory you created it from. Having a projection of someone you love in there could easily make one all the more lonesome, wouldn't you think? It's interesting to think about.
[Voice]
It's important enough, people give something up. For something which is a lie.
I don't understand it myself.
[Voice]
[Voice]
Nothing here makes sense to me.
[ Matter of fact tone. As, well, this entire conversation had been, from her end. ]
[Voice]
You're fairly new, aren't you?
[Voice]
[ ... and nothing else. Welp. ]
[Voice]
Is there anything in particular that is hard to understand here?
[Voice]
Why take people at all?
How are they taken?
Why give the pendants at all?
Who are the people who were here first?
How does creating archways affect Memories?
Who is the CPU representing?
Why are we given the CPU?
And, why give us so much, after taking everything we knew, away from us?
[ She's not even breathless after that, of course. ]
[Voice]
I would also like answers to these questions. While I'm sure it isn't completely random, it's difficult to place a common thread between everyone here or why.
The pendants are meant to separate us from the natives here and categorize us by the type of world we're from. But it's unclear as to the rational behind it.
I have no idea who was first. The CPU is a mystery unto itself. And, obviously, I'm asking about archways now so there isn't a lot of public information on it.
Do you suppose this is some giant social experiment? It could be a god taking and observing us like one might do with an ant-farm. Something to display. Or using us to harvest like a bee-keeper. Playing with us like a child in their backyard with a net? All of the above?
[Voice]
Where I come from, there are also many things unanswered.
Obsessing over them leads to madness. But we can't ignore it, either.
So. It could be any of those things you mentioned. Or none of those things.
[Voice]
You're right. Who knows right now? We'll need more evidence.
[Voice]
Not everyone is consumed by it.
[ And there is rarely just one truth, but she hesitates to say that. It's hard to explain, or understand. ]
[voice]
Are you speaking from experience?
[voice]
Observational.

Cassian frowns slightly.
I've thought about opening a subarchway to have access to resources, but it doesn't seem worth the price if I can't fully control who else has access to these resources. As for nostalgic reasons, I wouldn't do that, as I wouldn't want to give my enemies access to these places.
no subject
That is an excellent point. I was thinking resources would be the best way to utilize them but it didn't appear to be why people were doing it. I hadn't considered the fact that everyone can gain access to it. Is there no way to regulate access for security? You would have the most control over that as Guardian, correct?
no subject
It is different when the subarchway is the only source of something you truly need, but in my case technology from home would just make my life more comfortable. I'm also wary of wasting a sacrifice when you might need it to pay for your revival.

I'm glad to hear everyone in a position of power so far has been thinking quite rationally about this. Convenience isn't an excuse when the risk is too great. Do you only get a certain number of sacrifices? I don't remember that being noted anywhere. Though I suppose it doesn't matter. Losing any important part of yourself more than once is a horrific concept.

It's the Midnight Channel subarchway, it's banned, and there would be consequences for breaking the law.
[Video]
Sub-archways - yes! I believe if you believe it's worth the sacrifice and the risk.
As far as why? Possibility to make this world more accompanying for us.
[Video]
I believe you're the first to provide this stance on them. Everyone so far had stated they would never do it. Could you elaborate? Why do you think it would make it more accompanying for us?

Re: [Video]
They're in a zoo. It's a zoo. He really thinks it's a zoo. Much worse than Satelite Five and being forced onto a game show or reality tv.]
Nothing's perfect. Nothing's free either.

Re: [video]
Accept it yes. Give up, no.
[video]
Re: [video]
What would you do?
[Video]
[Suspiciously, sans an intro post on the network. Oh well, he keeps track of troublemakers and trouble-solvers just as much.]
Mm, I suppose they're an emergency measure if they have something one requires to live, for themselves or others. Cynically they might be a means to acquire resources if those were valued over the abstract exchange necessary to get them. Beyond that...hard to say. They seem like...traps.
[There's slight melancholy in his voice as he says that. He disliked the whole notion of anything fake like them.]
Being fake, as you know, I can't say anything are worthwhile, especially when the whole world has better things to offer.
Ah, so long as we're asking questions, would you give the meaning of your name? First and last if you've time.
[video]
[ He nods along. ]
It seems the majority holds the same opinions about them. Only one person told me they'd be willing to make the exchange so far, but even so they're rational behind it still painted the subarchway as having suspicious motives behind it.
The truth holds far more value. I couldn't agree more.
[ A curious smile. The tone implies he's joking somewhat. ] My name? Such an odd question from someone who has not told me their own name. If I give you a meaning, you might guess how to write it down properly and use it in nefarious spells to control me.
Re: [video]
Certainly; ahaha, unless such heroics are so common you hardly remember them. The Shadow Hound! Dangerous dog, that. How did you manage to fell such a foe?
[ooc: unless you'd prefer that hidden ofc!]
Really? That's encouraging to hear. Except the ah, suspicious motives part. I wonder what value our memories have as tender, here...
Oh! Aha, sorry, mine's Ted. Don't worry, I'm sure I've made far more mystical enemies than you, and none so far have tried that. I've have looked yours up myself, but Japanese names are much trickier. If that's your nation, of course.
[video]
It's a curious currency. Perhaps we're feeding a large supernatural demon that thrives off of that sort of thing.
Just Ted? [ ... ] You know, saying you have made worse enemies than me doesn't tell me you're not the mystical enemy yourself. Ha ha. Together it means 'intelligent son.'
Re: [video]
Goodness; what fantastic fortune! Must've liked your scent or something.
[That's an odd theory to throw out at random.]
It'd be a strange thing to meet a demon who wasn't supernatural at all, heh. Have you, er, had much experience with things like that? Numinous creatures nourished by sentimental abstractions?
Aheh, certainly. There aren't any other Ted's about, last I checked, and it's easier on the memory. Ought to give no trouble. I am, of course, terribly wounded to be suspected of any enmity whatever. Unless, haha, you've done something sinister to deserve it. Well, if I exact retribution, deserved or otherwise, it won't be that way. Rest assured, kanji remains, for me, a novice discipline at best.
