She opened the door and blinked down at him a moment, then grinned warmly. "You're shorter than you looked," she said. "Come on in. Got Mario Kart in the wii, and tea on the stove. There is custard and fish fingers in the fridge if you're hungry?"

I'm a Kokiri, we're kids.

[His statement was only half-true, pertaining to himself, but, he had no way of knowing that. Link's smile wavered a little, having no idea what about half of those things were.]

Tea is good, thank you.

"A kid huh?" she asked, smiling a bit wistfully. "Never got to raise my own kid, not really," she said softly, as she headed for the kitchen. "Tea, coming up."

Yeah. I'm supposed to be traveling with my fairy partner, but, she's not here.

[A brief hesitation.]

The Great Deku Tree raised me and everyone else, but, he died.

She came back out from checking the tea, a sympathetic look on her face. "I mostly travel with the Doctor and my husband. And whenever they're not with me, it's heard. But I'll tell you something I've learned from many hard hard years of experience? Death isn't always permanent, and people who love you will always come back. It may take them years, but those bonds are not easily broken, and they will bring you back to each other."

[Link looked very uncertain.]

See, that's the problem. I've left Navi, not her leaving me. And I'm trying to go back. But, if I can get back to her, she can help me get back to Zelda, and then everything will be okay.

She nodded. "That makes it a toss up if you're to return to them or they're to come find you. But then life always is. And like I said, we'll help you out, okay? Once we break out of this place, we'll bring you to the moment after you left. They'll never know you were gone unless you tell them." She considered, then frowned a bit, lifted a lock of his hair if he let her, then put the flat of her hand on top of his head. "Right. Kid, you'll shoot up like a weed. Okay, they might notice when you get back that you look a little older, but that's about it."

[Link shook his head with a slight smile.]

Oh, nah, I'm pretty much done growing. All Kokiri stop growing. S'soon, I will too!

"Alright, so if you keep your hair about the same, no one would notice. Seriously, it' disturbing how little people notice. But in a way, also comforting."

"Too bad though, bet all the Kokiri girls would swoon if you let your hair grow out. If you were a human kid, I'd say you were going to be a heartbreaker when you got older."

I doubt it. I was a freak for too long for any of the Kokiri girls besides Saria to like me.

[That being said, it seemed that at least two Princesses and a ranch girl seemed to like him.]

"Well then, sounds like they're idiots. But you just need one. Tell me about this Saria?"

Saria is my very best friend. She's never ever been mean to me even though I didn't have a fairy for a really long time.

[Link paused.]

She taught me to play the ocarina. And how to write my name and stuff. And when Mido pushed me around when I was smaller she yelled at him. I can beat him up now though, but, he cheats and uses his fairy.

"Well, not sure how a fairy helps with fighting, but bet I could show you a few dirty tricks that'll make it not matter," she said with a grin, leaning against the back of the sofa. Amy was a bad influence, she did not deny this. "And it sounds like this Saria kid is pretty cool. If she shows up here, I'd love to meet her."

It's two against one. I could pin him, but his fairy would team up with him and knock me off 'im. I'm stronger than Mido, but, there's not much I can do if he's gonna cheat like that.

Anyway, it sucks to be him, because my fairy, Navi, is waaaaaaay better than his stupid fairy. Even if she does nag a lot.

"And you can't throw one of them into the other?" she asked.

Mido's bigger than me. And throwing a fairy's just mean. I'm not mean.

"Yeaaaaaah, pretty sure that if the fairy is attacking you, mean goes out the window. But failing that, what about blinding them both? Not forever, of course. But a handful of sand to the face is a good way to get the edge in a fight."

The Great Deku Tree---

[was dead. Link stopped short and took a breath.]

That'd be cheating. I fight fair.

"No, two against one is cheating. Blinding those two is balancing the odds. Look, kid, they're cheating you. So you have a right to not get your butt beat. Besides, if no one sets out rules in the beginning, how could it be against them to do something?"

...yeah, but, now I've got a sword and stuff, and I'm on an important mission from a Princess, and he's just an ugly scrub-face.

Besides, the Great Deku Tree didn't want us fighting to start with.

"Adults never want the kids they're responsible for fighting. My thinking, though? If you're going to fight anyway, and you're one of mine, you're going to know how to end that fight fast, and that you're going to be the one winning that fight. but yeah, missions do put bullies into perspective, don't they?"

Mm-hm!

I bet when I finally get to go home, he'll leave me alone. I'll have a fairy and a sword.

"Problem is a sword is a bit much for a fight like that. But tell you what, you find yourself a good sturdy stick with the same weight and balance and you're all set."

When I'm home again, he'll probably leave me alone. If not, I've got a slingshot too. And a boomerang.

I just gotta find a way to ditch this place.

"I told you, we'll get you back. But the trick with being better armed is beating the snot out of the bully JUST enough to back him off. It's too easy to go too far accidently."
