[The video opens to what appears to be a rather ordinary man - dark hair, square jaw, and a smudge of something red over his nose. His face is too close to the screen, brow furrowed in concentration. It quickly melds into surprise, then disbelief - and maybe even a hint of amusement.]

And here I was, hoping I'd just landed in the Fade somehow.

[His tone is very light, and he sighs, pulling back from the phone enough that he inadvertently allows the camera to focus better on him.]

I'll have to admit to being at something of a loss. Attempts on my life usually don't come with instruction manuals. It's an interesting change, but I do prefer things a little more straightforward!

Oh. And if you are trying to kill me? I have to admit my head feels a little foggy and I appear to be unarmed, so it's probably a good time. We can talk about this whole thing, maybe get some drinks while you ramble on about your plan?

[There's a beat, Hawke looking around him, head tilted as if listening for an ambush. He shrugs.]

It was worth a try.

[He seems almost a little startled that she didn't get that. A city full of people who don't know what to expect from him. Huh.]

I get all forty winks with both eyes closed. I wouldn't want a bug crawling on them anyway.

[That was another joke, just as casual. He's almost testing now.]

[Chiaki really needed to get used to jokes. They weren't exactly something she had been around all that much. She paused while she thought about the reply. She was pretty sure that was a joke...]

[He flashed her a smile.]

Ninety percent of things that come out of my mouth are jokes of varying degrees of seriousness. That, by the way, was from the other ten percent of the time.

So...your a walking joke machine for the most part?

You could say that. It's never served me too poorly before.

[If people thought you were nothing but a smart mouth they tended to underestimate you. Fame had hindered that somewhat, but annoying them was almost as good.]

[Chiaki didn't understand it at all. But that was who he was anyway.]

Ah, so I guess I should ask do you know what you will do while here?

Oh, probably the same thing I always do.

[He smiles brightly.]

Someone always needs something done they don't want to bother with themselves.

Like what exactly?

You know how it goes; Hawke, clear out the dragon in this mine it's scaring the workers. Hawke, find my missing wife so her family stops believing I've killed her and while you're at it deal with the blood mage in this brothel. Hawke, pick me up these ingredients from the countryside, you don't have anything else to do, do you? Hawke, be a dear and do the Templars' job for them, since they're apparently completely rubbish at actually keeping an eye on mages. You know. The usual Wednesday.

What kind of world are you from?

One with dragons, magic - blood or otherwise, no cars, and far less complicated bathrooms. For starters.

Never really had to answer that question before.

Like a fantasy game, but real and could actually kill you.

Though are the bathroom here really that complicated?

I'm not sure what that is, but for the sake of simplicity I'll smile and agree.

[And there is an outstandingly fake smile.]

Not after the first time or two. But trust me, they are different.

Oh, I guess I should explain what a game is. If you want that?

[She is pretty much an expert of explaining what they are at this point in time.]

I will trust you on that. Mostly because if the fantasy games I've played are anything to go by... There are huge differences.

A game is... I guess the best way one can explain this is like when someone is telling a story. The only difference is the fact that you can play through the story instead of just listening.

Well, I've done that plenty of times then. Varric tells stories over cards all the time.
