Good afternoon, everyone. I'd like to talk, today, about Time and, more specifically, the record thereof. You see, through quite a bit of research I'll not bore you with, I've determined the calendar utilized here correlates well enough with my own. The 10th month of the calendar used by Genessia and its environs began yesterday, at midnight. It is referred to as 'October'. In my own world, Frumentum or as it's referred to by the common folk "Harvestmere" will be beginning in roughly two days time. We have 12 months, divided into 30 days each. If Genessia continues on a path consistent with its previous course, its calendar year consists of 365 days, save for every 4th year, when some brilliant scholar ages ago realized they were losing time and devised a rough patching that's consisted into the present day. I've of course not been around here long enough to have experienced this mythical "leap year", but Genessia's calendar, along with many of its residents, seem to hail for "Earth". It's the "Roman" calendar, which is a rather interesting topic in regards to both Earth and Thedas, but, well...

[He clears his throat, turning his gaze to an open journal before him.] I digress grossly.

Last month on Thedas, we began the month with the Annum "All Souls Day", and it would seem there are several similar holidays at the end of this Genessian month. I've read about several of them, but I'm curious what your traditions are. In Thedas, the holiday is rather dour. We dress as ghosts and parade about at midnight, very sad. We don't even get a feast! What do you do?

[He raises an eyebrow. Is that so?]

I made no such promise. I do recall mentioning I could be persuaded.

[Hawke thinks for a moment.]

Your moustache is very dashing, and I like the part where you shaved some of your head for some reason.

[Not entirely empty compliments, but an almost clearly joking attempt at flattery - even with the sincerity in his voice.]

I'll also answer any two questions you like. You did say you were a fan. I'm sure there's something you want to fact check Varric on. Or that he didn't cover.

[He smiles in response.]

You see? That wasn't so hard. Also, it's called 'fashion'. I'm afraid the term hasn't quite reached Ferelden to spite my prolonged presence. You lot can be rather thick-headed.

[And that slightly teasing tone is returned in kind.]

Ah. I wondered if your barber had just gotten distracted, partway through. And here I'd thought fashion had more to do with clothes.

[His eyes sparkle with entertainment. In truth he could admit that it didn't look bad, and just had, but surely they both had some expectations of the other to meet at this point.]

Well, I want to make sure they're good questions. Rumor has it my ability to count properly goes out the window when I'm drunk though.

Really, now? [He shakes his head, one eyebrow raised.] You see, this is my people think you all to be barbarians.

[He looks like he's just heard a very useful bit of information.]

Is that so? I'll have to remember to challenge you to a game of wicked grace...over drinks.

[Oh, absolutely. Not a joking bone in his body.] I do start getting the urge to hit things with clubs when I haven't had a trim in a few weeks. Maybe you're onto something. [Completely deadpan.]

That was an invitation to liquor me up for a few more questions, not my pocket money.

I knew it! It's all the excess facial hair!

[He chuckles.]

If you're anything at cards like Varric, it wouldn't be in my best interest regardless.

[Hawke gives a little shrug - what can you do?]

You're right on that one. Let's just say I'm not usually the one in the hole at the end of the night when we get the gang together.

It also occurs to me that you haven't answered the question yet. Since you're so eager to keep it a surprise, just tell me when and where. I'm being a little ignored right now, so I've got plenty of time.

[He chuckles but nods.]

Friday, early evening? There's a charming little cafe in Everglade, a pleasant enough little town of you ignore the occasional werewolf.

[He laughs, but shoots a quick text his way with the location.]

I have an excellent sense of direction.

[Hawke lied, flagrantly.]

But I suppose if you'd like an escort, I can meet you at the archway.

That isn't what I've heard, but go on, then. Keep your dignity.

[He chuckles.]

How could turn down the escort of such a fantastic beard?

My dignity? I think I misplaced that ages ago.

[A smile.]

Is that right? And you could have carried on the charade of having it had you simply kept mum over it.

[He inclines his head.]
