Guardian Debates!
[ Everyone's TVs will flicker on and to the Genessia News Channel for a Live Special Report. The Show Host pops out from beneath the podium, a cool tenor voice coming straight from him as he addresses the camera. ]
Well heeeeello there everyone! We interrupt your day for a very special report! It's your favorite host with news about the City Guardian Election, live! We're so sorry this television broadcast had to be delayed in the wake of the most recent tragedies. Speaking of which, if you need help rebuilding: Check out our sponsor, the CCCC Construction, Carpentry, and Cleaning Company in Attleton. It's thanks to them that we were able to get our Election Debate set up despite recent destruction. Now, let's take a look at this election's candidates.
We are broadcasting live from right here in Genessia City. Many folks are in attendance, including our very own GCPD who are here to monitor and keep the peace. Now onto the debate. Now let's begin the live debate-slash-Q&A you've all been waiting for. Here's how it works: You all come up with questions to ask each of the Guardians, and each Guardian will have the opportunity to answer it to help you decide which of your candidates is the right one for your city.
Look out Attleton, here comes Cassian Andor to challenge current Guardian Blaze! Award-winning cook and a man whose name is literally Blaze- they're going to set the stage on fire tonight!
Everglade, more like ever beautiful! Please welcome the lovely ladies Remilia Scarlet and current Guardian Grell Sutcliff, the baddest of the badasses running for City Guardian in Everglade!
Fayren's got one heck of a variety this time, the first election in a long while not to feature royalty! The peasants will rise to the rank of City Guardian! Welcome Qubine, Alice Margatroid, Mavis Vermillion, and Yukiko Amagi!
Watch out- It's Nova City candidates coming through! These two futuristic frontrunners are looking to fight! Welcome current Guardian Weiss Schnee and challenger Captain James T. Kirk.
And last bit not least, the center of the cities and center of our hearts, Genessia City! Let's hear what our candidates have to say, welcome the effervescent Princess Zelda, cool and collected Michio, current super Guardian David Haller, and ruggedly handsome Peter Quill.
Let's get started folks! Get out of the showers and into the town hall for this live debate, starting in 30 minutes! You've still got time to pop in, let's go, and don't forget to cast your votes this Sunday, June 25th at the polls!
{ OOC NOTE: Anyone can reply to this post with a question they want to ask the potential City Guardians. Each City Guardian candidate is tasked with answering any question on this post. No candidate is required to, but lack of participation may affect public opinion of the candidate! Lack of any activity during the election season will disqualify your candidate, however.
On June 25th, the polls will officially go up and each character will be afforded one vote for each city. So if you play 5 characters, you will need to submit 5 IC vote choices, if you only play 1, then only that character will vote. This means you as the player are voting on your character's behalf because it's going to be in the OOC comm just so that we can include instructions. There will be further information at that time as well as a link to a "booklet" with candidate information. For now though, the debate is here! }

All Candidates
And what will you do to help stamp out digital newspaper so that physical ones will be the one true news source?
no subject
I personally don't think one news source is better than the other. Some people may prefer having a physical paper and others might want to have the paper on-hand digitally. It's a matter of individual preference.
I say let the people decide which they prefer.
[You're gonna throw papers at peoples' windows anyway so what difference does it make?]
no subject
I like both. Digital can be quicker if I am on the go, but I do like kicking back with the physical paper sometimes. I think it's impossible to stamp out one source completely, especially when they have both become so ingrained in society.
no subject
That said, if this digital newspaper is anything like these communication devices, then I find them to be much quicker and more efficient. But I suppose technology is prone to breaking down from time to time, so we'd have to rely on the paper then.
In short, both mediums have their uses...so why not do both?
no subject
[As a doll maker, she knows a thing or two about arts and crafts.]
While digital has more limited uses, it will be up to the people to decide which they prefer.
no subject
[Though she doesn't get what this has to do with being a guardian, so sorry if she does look quite puzzled if for a moment.]
Also, I don't think you can stamp one source out as advancements will always happen, but I don't think its really something to do with what a Guardians job is. Or Fayren for that matter as digital devices aren't at all common.
no subject
I'd imagine those in Nova City would prefer digital... simply because of the high technology environment, while in Fayren, I'm sure the opposite would be true.
no subject
I prefer digital, I didn't come across a paper newspaper till Genessia. They're faster, easier to use and run less risk of destroying windows. [ Yes, he is sore about that, paperboy, these windows hadn't even been a week old! ] But it's none of the Guardian's business how people like to read their newspaper.
no subject
As for eliminating the digital newspaper, I have to disagree with that point on the grounds that if there's a printing malfunction; people still need the news. As well as conversely; I don't have to have a power supply or internet to enjoy a real paper. I will speak more highly of the physical newspaper though as I don't have to be buffeted by Ads to read it.
Re: All Candidates
[He smiles - whether this is what he was expecting or not Peter can roll with it.]
You can kill bugs, the crosswords are way more fun on a physical copy, you can take the comics out separate if they, uh, have them... Past that you can use them for paper mache, origami, whatever once you're done. Around here the physical paper keeps our local glassworkers in, well, work too. [At least from what he'd seen walking around on paper day.]
You also can't hack a newspaper like you can a site.
Doesn't mean the digital edition isn't useful too, little more portable, but paper papers are classic.
I, uh, don't think the whole Guardian thing is supposed to include domain over decisions like that though... [A joking little wink.] You sure you got the right election?
no subject
Personally, I prefer paper over digital, if only because some traditions should be kept. But there are those concerned about the effects on the environment, or simply don't have the space for more bulk in their homes.
As far as stamping them out, that isn't for a guardian to decide, but for the public to do.
no subject
That said, at the end of the day, the medium doesn't matter as much as the information that is communicated. I think it's possible to keep both physical an digital newspapers and to let people choose what's more convenient for them.
What is important is that the news people can read remain unbiased.

[ Just saying. She may doom her house but that's what shutters are for. ]
anon text;
How can we be safely assured that - should you be elected - you will not leave your post at the sign of future "adventure" shall we say?
no subject
So while I cannot say for certain I would never leave my post to go somewhere else, I would only be doing so in the knowledge that 1) I'm doing so because of the city and 2) I do so in the knowledge there will be someone whoever becomes the deputy in order to make sure there is someone who I would trust to handle the situation while I was away dealing with something else.
no subject
If it is not a potential threat to the city, I will stay where I am and focus on the people's needs.
no subject
no subject
That's a good point. I didn't consider that just being a candidate would come with the citizens' expectation to stay and defend the archway. If I had realized that, I wouldn't have left.
I left because I understood myself as a sole defender, a civilian of sorts, and the defense of Attleton was in good hands. I believed I would do more good in Fayren. I didn't go to seek adventure. But s guardian, I would be focused solely on defending Attleton.

[Even during the spirit invasion, he was forced to take shelter because he couldn't fight them all off.]
However, when things are peaceful, I do like to explore all of the cities. They are all connected, so I believe I should learn all I can about them.

Giant monsters and spirits attacking aside,...What do you think is the most important issue at the moment? And what measures would you implement to fix it?
no subject
I plan to have programs that encourage people to experience lives of the other in hopes it will help them understand. I can fund such a program by myself, with or without money.
Security wise, I have magic dolls around Fayren's business establishments. They can detect criminal activity and subdue through non-lethal means. I was asked to do this by former Guardian Satori in response to increasing attacks by the Hands of Decay. And since the implementation of the dolls, who can say they don't work?
I will look into new security measures as well.

All Candidates
The barrier was breached. What steps would you take to learn from what happened and either improve our situation or defenses? Does anyone even think our situation can be "improved"?
no subject
As for the question; Well that's up to the people, honestly. All we can do is collect the information provided. Intelligence is only as good as what everyone knows.

[Anon, totally not a cartoon villain]
For too long, weapons have been denied their basic rights, made to be placed into everyone else's greasy palms and treated like fifth-class citizens! What will you do to ensure weapons get the respect they deserve?
Fayren candidates
What would you do if the sky was filled with arrows, turning each and every citizen into a pin-cushion?
no subject
If arrows did rain over Fayren, my magic and my dolls' proficiency would be enough to shoot them out of the sky. Or hit my dolls instead.

multiple times people are outright trying to sell guns or offering to murder people for cash on the network
and recently i asked if anyone wanted to blow anything up for me
for a film
but the point still stands that i was asking for explosives
and got explosives for a pretty good bargain too
not once was anyone like "hey that seems super dangerous did dave get any permits for that?"
i am not stating if i did nor not because thats irrelevant to this question
are you okay with such blatantly dangerous trading of goods and services
and if no what are you going to do about this
no subject
I will obviously draw the line at private property. It's not difficult to track, after all.

Re: For all candidates
If you're looking into an exotic pet, I'm gonna recommend that you bring it up with those in office with information about that animal. I'm not gonna say it's illegal off hand or whatever, but if it's really lethal or poisonous, or if it's probably gonna eat someone and you know this? Just...don't try? There are cool animals out there who won't do that. Some don't eat people at all.
If you do somehow wind up with an animal and it eats or maims or kills someone? You're both going to end up held responsible, okay? Especially if you brought them in special.

Mostly All Candidates
That said, Guardians are expected to protect their cities from all threats. People like him can, have and will come in. So, you’re faced with a situation like this and simple words won’t get you out. A being powerful enough to cause mass destruction with a wave of a single hand. They want you to hand over your city to be under their rule and you can imagine where resistance might get you. The lives of many or everyone in an entire city can be lost at a mishandled situation.
How exactly do you deal with it? How would you handle a threat like this?
no subject
[A Freeza puppet to channel her magic to produce a magical explosion. Of course, that only pissed him off. But there's a point to her recollection.]
Narcissism is such a enemy's greatest flaw. Use it wisely to your advantage and search him, or her, for weaknesses until you have as good a plan as any to subdue them with varying degrees of success.
Enlisting the aid and knowledge of people from a would-be conqueror's world will also be invaluable.
