[The first thing Rey did was make certain she still had all her belongings. She had her staff, the sacred Jedi texts, her bag, a few stale rations sunk to the bottom--and the hilt of the Skywalker lightsaber, severed in half.

She kept that well buried.

It didn't take her long to figure out how her newfound device worked, and she switched on the video feed, squinting skeptically into the camera.]

This doesn't look like anyplace I've ever been before. [Though that doesn't exactly narrow it down.] And nothing in this pamphlet indicates that the war is over or that it even existed.

[She lowers her eyes, giving pause before pressing onward--there was no other way to go, and if she were to be of any use to anyone, she'd have to be practical and tend to her immediate needs.]

I was informed that I would need to find a place to stay, and a means to earn my room and board. I'd rather go off any leads rather than wander about aimlessly, so if you've the need of someone good with airships or droids, even computers and the like--I've a lot of hands-on experience. I'm also an adequate pilot, if that's something that's useful here.

[Fixing the lightsaber would have to wait.]

[She shakes her head rapidly.] Ben Solo. Kylo Ren. He's the Commander of the First Order.

Or...[She pauses in thought, eyes lowering.] He was. I'm not entirely sure what he is now, with Snoke dead.

[ Recognition sparks in Cassian's eyes. ]

Kylo Ren! Why didn't you say so right away?

I ran into him on my first day. We only spoke briefly once, but I believe Kaytoo Esso has interacted more often with him; he arrived earlier than I did in Genessia. I have also met another First Order officer briefly, a General Hux. Kay knows more than I do about him, too.

[floatingrocks]

You mean he's here, then?!

[Rey visibly perks up, but quickly swallows that excitement at the mention of Hux.] I assume they were working together, then.

[ Sorry, Rey, Cassian has absolutely no excitement for this, he looks like he's bitten into a lemon. It's more due to Hux than Kylo, though, he has a bias against people who fanboy planetkillers. ]

No, he vanished soon after my arrival, which was last February. Hux had been here prior to my arrival. He returned for a shorter time in summer, along with other Imperials, all of which are long gone.

[ Good riddance! The cities are theirs again, as they should be. ]

[Rey's visibly relieved by this news.] Good. I heard that there's no war going on here. I'd hate for that to change.

[Itching for a fight? Not exactly, but Rey's not one to back down from one, either.]

[ He nods once, grim-faced. ]

The war from our world has fortunately never come here. When the Emperor was here, he tried to reach for it, he tried to slander us while gaining an office himself, but he didn't stay long enough to be successful.

[ He would like to think this means there is no danger, but he remembers his own alternate self, determined to turn the cities into an Imperial colony. ]

We remain ever vigilant.

[floatingrocks]

As we must. For our sake as much as everyone else's.

[She can only hope that the other Jedi here are doing the same.]

[ He looks a little surprised, pleasantly so, when Rey speaks of doing it for the sake of others. After a moment of thought he finally locks the conversation. ]

Indeed. Many powerful people have been brought here, many of them far more powerful than anyone from our galaxy, but the Empire is our problem and thus our responsibility. Just because we are no longer at home doesn't free us from our duty to oppose them.

So, as I understand it you're one of ours... or of a future rebellion against a future Empire, anyway. [ Same difference. They still like to use Death Stars. ] What can you tell me about your role within the rebellion?

[Her brow furrows at the serious shift of tone, and she hesitates at his question.] My role?

[...she...didn't really know how to answer that. She wasn't a Jedi, not technically--perhaps that was the best she's got, though.] I was training under Luke Skywalker to be a Jedi--though there have been some complications, and I've been left to fend for my self in that regard.

[She pushes out a frustrated sigh, knowing the first step would be to repair the lightsaber, though she hadn't much else to go on.] It started with my rescuing a BB-unit droid from the First Order containing a map to Skywalker's whereabouts. I was transported by Han Solo to a point before I was apprehended and interrogated by Kylo Ren and--well. It mostly worked out in the end, though the fight's really only beginning.

[captain_by_the_book]

[ That's a lot of information which he takes in and carefully files away to be dissected later, for all that it's rather confusing and vague, not that he blames her for it. ]

Luke Skywalker is here, I've talked to him. I'm surprised to hear he's training other Jedi, isn't he a little young to be teaching anyone?

[floatingrocks]

He's much older in my time. [Having finally given up on questioning the peculiar time discrepancies, Rey answers without hesitation.]

The Luke that is here is probably closer to your time than to mine. He's...[She pauses, debating whether or not to divulge all these details of the future here and now.] He's old enough to be my father, to give you a better idea.

Or Uncle.

Definitely not the young man I've met, he is... in his early twenties? Mid-twenties at most. I understand it's very confusing how people you know are taken from points in time when they don't know you.

[ It's confusing and annoying, but not something he has personally run into all too often. Most people from his galaxy here have either been from the faraway past or future - or one of them is dead by the time the other joins the rebellion. ]

He might still be of some use to you. If not, there are magic users from many different worlds here, in Fayren you'll find schools and guilds for magic users. If you're still looking for training I would speak to Mavis Vermillion, Guardian of Fayren and leader of Fairy Tail.

If I can get a hold of Luke, that would be...ideal. [She swallows, her brow wrinkling in thought.] Though if worst comes to worst, maybe...this Anakin Skywalker doesn't seem to be tempted by the Dark Side, maybe he is the better option for training.

[captain_by_the_book]

[ He nods. ] He is a fully trained Jedi Knight from a time when there were many, though he doesn't seem to be older than Luke Skywalker. [ Whatever that might say about his teaching skills. Cassian and him have only recently come to a truce, too, so that's really the only flattering thing he has to say about him. ]

I'm sure you'll find a way. If there's anything more mundane you have questions on, you're welcome to turn to me. Helping newcomers often ends up part of a Guardian's duties.

You're a Guardian? Do you work with General Grievous, then?

[captain_by_the_book]

No... and yes. He's Deputy in Nova City, working under the command of Guardians Black and Vakarian, and ultimately Mayor Schnee. I'm Guardian of Attleton, Mayor Palmer's town. Guardians work together on bigger projects or threats but we aren't directly beholden to another.

But I used to be part of General Grievous's personal guard prior to my election.

So Guardians are elected. [That's a small comfort.]

[captain_by_the_book]

Guardians and mayors both. Guardian elections were just last month, they take place every six months. If you take an interest in such matters you'll see that Guardians have very different approaches to their position and what they believe to be the extent of their duties, or their rights. But if you're not interested in politics you don't need to concern yourself with it. All current Guardians serve their cities well.

[floatingrocks]

[She quickly puts her hands up defensively.] I'm absolutely better following orders rather than leading a charge, so--I'd rather be put to work.

[And keep her head low until she wraps her mind around this new situation she's thrust in...after she'd just started getting a grasp on the situation back home, too...]

[ Keeping your head down is definitely a good way to start off, the cities can be quite the change from their own galaxy, some more so than others. ]

Finding work here isn't hard. You'll find something soon enough. Just make sure you don't wait too long to start searching, you only have a month of free lodging in Commonspace before they kick you out.
