[When Kaoru first arrived he had paid attention to the hologram and was still somewhat baffled by it. But it made it obvious that they weren't at home anymore regardless, but he really had no way to get home, but yet... he had no clue as to what to do.
He's never really had to fend for himself before, he was used to certain things, he never worked a day in his life not counting that one summer where he helped out in part for a competition. But as he thought about it, the hologram did say about a place to head to. So probably the first place he was going to head to, even if it was to get his bearings a little more and set about getting work at least.
As he walked, he started to look around and it wasn't long before he was walking up to people.]
Excuse me, can I please have a moment of your time?

[It was a few hours before Kaoru found the places he needed to go to and managed to stay in the commons for the time being. But there was one thing he figured he should ask the whole network since he figured out the basics of how this device works.]
How does one use the microwave? Sounds like a stupid question, but I have seriously never used one. I have heard of them, but this would be the first time I have had to use one. I've pressed buttons, but not sure what I am actually doing.
Wise advice from people who actually know will be of huge benefit.
Another question. Jobs... How did anyone decide what they were going to do here?

You're not alone! I tend to blow mine up too, so don't feel embarrassed.
As for jobs, pick something you really love, and then find a job that relates to that! That's why I've got an arcade and matchmaking service. Feel free to stop by and play a few games!

...Plus...how do arcades and matchmaking even ... go... together. I'm baffled. But that is good advice and that does help me with ideas.
- Kaoru Hitachiin since apparently this is a thing one can do.

I might come to check it out but only for the arcade. I think the matchmaker would not be in my best interests right now.

Job -> What do you know how to do? Or like doing?
text
So using ones interests. I guess for me fashion and stuff like that has always been interesting. So I could go there.

Like butter... butter will explode.
Okay, there are a lot of stores you can work out. There are also positions that involve helping people pick out clothes. If you're able to hold a job for a few months you can put in a request to open your own store and sell whatever clothes you want.
text
So...you can work your way up from the bottom and do well in this world. Okay, hopefully, that should be simple enough to do. Slow and steady.

Rule 2: Your power levels. If you're cooking anything delicate like bread or eggs or stuff that might get hard from overheating, dial it down to 50. It'll cook slower, but it'll keep the texture better. If you're just doing something like boiling water, 100 is fine. Make sure that if you just want something to not be frozen, you hit "defrost" button first.
Rule 3: Anything liquid will splatter and explode. Put a paper towel over it.
Rule 4: Only cook non-solids halfway, take it out, then mix it before putting it back in. Otherwise, you will have the outside literally boiling and the inside will be cold.
Rule 5: You can reheat eggs in the microwave, but don't cook them there in the first place.
Rule 6: After it's done, leave it in the microwave for about a minute and don't open the door! A lot of times the steam inside the microwave finishes cooking it, so it'll dry out if you take it out too soon and get nasty.
Rule 7: Foods dry out really easily in the microwave, so just put a microwave-safe shot glass worth of water in the microwave with your food if you're worried.
Rule 8: Spread the food around the edge of the turntable, not in the center or you'll cry at how unevenly it cooks.
Rule 9: Draw a face on your marshmallows before you microwave them and don't look away.
Follow these rules and Chef Mic will take care of you.

If real:
Do not place inside your microwave: 1) metal 2) cardboard, 3) paper. (Exceptions are clearly labeled containers like the microwavable popcorn bags! But not the plastic surrounding them. Take that off first. Same with meats or soups.)
Remove wrappers from containers of food you wish to eat (unless it is as with the aforementioned soup cartons or expressly labled microwave bags). Place the food into a MICROWAVABLE CONTAINER -- all such dishes if plastics are usually labeled safe or not (same with dishwasher-safe) and all ceramics or glass are A-Okay!
Depending on the type of food changes how long you want to put it on for. Tea is about 90 seconds. So press SECONDS: 090 for example, then START.
If your dish is a cup of instant noodles, press 2 minutes, or whatever it says on the package!
You open the door with the bottom wide button. Make sure the food is in there first.
The microwave won't operate if the door does not shut properly, so make sure that is done as well.
Also that it is plugged in properly and you have working electricity in the rest of your flat.
If this was all just a lark, screw you, there are a lot of people from different worlds and time periods and I dare you to try to operating a hydrogen smashing electron inhibitor without directions on your first go.

As for jobs, I knew right away I wanted to remake my Dad's company here. Primarily to help my friends who aren't used to being stuck anywhere and doing the normal "job" thing.
What are your interests?
Text
But really useful information, thank you. I may not actually do it right the first time, but with all these useful tips I think I can do it.
My interests...probably different from other people in some ways, but anything fashion. Mum was a fashion designer and I knew a lot about it. Then you have the usual video games and the like.

[Another Princess?]
What are you trying to make specifically, I'll try to help more. I like to play with non-human and different time period gadgets, so I've gotten a good feel for how not to blow things up ;) (Or at least to blow them up semi-safely, haha don't worry it's a joke.)
One of the people closest to me here was a model both in her world and then carried it over here. Depending on the time period and/or region you are from, you might be able to carry that over here. If you can design practical clothes, there are many non-humans who would love not to have to modify their look, a couple costume shops open year round -- though they do the most business around Halloween of course, and if your best feature is aesthetics, Nova welcomes pretty much the most eccentric you can get.
You could also work or apprentice in a tailor shop in Attleton or Genessia and attend the University if you are worried you aren't ready to go all the way into figuring out how to make robots, cyborgs, werewolves, or vampires feel sexy and normal at the same time. Attleton is also a lot more "normal" as far as the fashion goes -- depending on the year/region you're from. But suits or casual activewear or summer dresses and skirts are the trend there. Not so much the gothic overtones and dramatic capes of Everglade, or sci-fi swirly light-up collars and psuedo-metal fake scales of Nova. Also, Fayren has actual magic, so fashion is really crazy there! From togas, to practical dress armor, to I think the dragons are naked, but I know that Namur is 8 feet tall and has shark fins so getting suits has to be tricky, yeah?
But I think you'll be able to have a lot of fun either way! :)
There's also a few arcades around, I think there were a couple of professional gamers, but usually unless you know how to code and design games, it's not quite as easy to get into as being a model or helping department stores figure out what to buy, yeah?
[ADDED LATE:] Actually I don't even know if we have department stores here. Attleton must, right? I think they have a mall, but I don't remember ever going. Well, if there isn't one, you might be able to work at one of the boutiques. But don't expect to start at the top. Your name might still carry a lot of weight if your family is fashion royalty, but boutiques' owners can be really feisty!
Don't even ask about all the fights my Mum would get into with them. So embarrassing.Text
[It is a couple minutes before he actually texts back.]
I believe it's just a microwavable lasagne or something. It's very different than what I am used to so I picked out what looked appealing. As well as some instant coffee, which I am glad exists here.
Plus dealing with fashion you don't use fashion to modify yourself, you use it in order to either show off what you have in the best ways or hide things you either don't like or don't have. In a way, a way to make yourself feel good. So I guess having to understand one's fashion sense and then finding the best thing that suits that tastes would be harder since it means knowing a lot more than maybe I know.
But also sounds fun.
But wait...Dragons? People who are 8 feet tall and potentially a shark... Did I end up in like a storybook or something? But I guess here I won't start at the top... But I can work towards it.

First. Don't put anything metal or aluminum in there. It will explode.
Second. Ah, trial and error?
Text.
Except trail and error which I get, but not so much if I was extremely hungry.
Re: Text.
But I had people who cooked for me too so I get it.

Might try that here.
