first hunt [action]
GENESSIA COMMONSPACE
[ The groggy haze hasn't yet exactly worn off this demon hunter here and Nero finds himself crashed on the bed he has in this (temporary) room of his. Arm draped across his eyes, he's about five seconds away from conking out where he hopes when he wakes this will all be a bad dream, when the sound of WHATEVER THAT IS keeps him from doing so. With a scowl, he throws himself off the bed, yanks open the door (and nearly off its hinges oops) and- ]
Hey! You wanna keep it down?!
[ He'll just yell that down the hall to whoever or whatever that is. ]
GENESSIA CITY
[ Moving down the streets with a scowl on his face (not like he ever wears another expression) is a white-haired, sword strapped to his back with a glowing blue arm guy. He's heard the spiel about this place, is annoyed with this whole kidnapped by spirits shtick going on here, and can't remember the last time he actually ate something so that's where he's headed. Or hopes he is.
The first food place he finds, he drops some of those red bills down and asks what he can get with some of this and, as he waits for his food to be brought to him, if you're staring, he's gonna feel that... even address you without looking over. ]
Take a picture, it'll last longer.
[ That, or, he's going to be sitting there at whatever table is available, head in his hands and clearly just DONE with this place already. ]

I'm not exactly the retail worker type.
[ To which he gives a glance over to her. ]
You wanna fill me in on what's available around here over that drink?
[ Because he might as well take it up with the day he's had so far. ]
no subject
[She nods in the direction of the bar and starts walking.]
I'm a Deputy Guardian. I help keep the city and it's people safe. I'm not really meant for retail either. [Enis rolls her shoulder in a shrug.] If you're into that, I think Everglade is running short on help. They also deal with monsters a lot because they need the fear. [She waves a hand.] That whole thing is a mess.
If you're a fighter then there are bounty boards and freelance things you can do. There are also retail jobs if that's what you want. After some amount of time you can start your own business if you want.
It really depends on what you're comfortable with. I think there is a bit of everything here. [Enis holds open the door for him as they arrive at the bar. She'll let him select their seats as she flags down one of the wait staff.]
no subject
Following along, he listens to her spiel about work, bounties, and the whole nine yards with something for everyone before he steps inside the bar and opts for a booth for a little more privacy. ]
What do you mean by monsters needing fear?
[ Because Everglade being the spooky supernatural sort of city has pinged his interest what with being a demon hunter back home and all. ]
You got some demons causing trouble there?
no subject
[She takes a seat and waves to a passing waitress.] As I said, it's a mess.
Can I have a whiskey double neat and whatever he wants.
[Once the waitress has the order and vanishes Enis faces Nero.]
Yes and no. Some of the people who arrive like you did are demons but they aren't inherently bad. Some are but people here can't be killed. They just come back and that'll make any situation they're involved in messy. There are monsters but most abide within the law. There are also laws about killing, even monsters and demons depending on where you are.
no subject
Especially the whole part about not being able to be killed thing here. Not that he's planning anything but it sure is a little nugget of information that is useful to know. ]
That so?
[ He leans back in his seat, arm draping over the back of it. ]
Guess that means a demon hunter isn't gonna find much work around here then, huh?
no subject
Yes.
[Candid as always.]
There is some work that involves hunting. Like I said, there are rules but there are bounty boards. Usually it's preferred alive but dead happens. There are a lot of fucked up people here. [She will not go into details about that.]
You can make a living as a hunter though. There are a few people who do similar things.
no subject
But the mention of the bounty boards has his gaze drop down to the table for a moment. Honestly, that's probably his best bet since a cashier is not going to happen. However, bringing up the possibility of hunting, that piques his interest and he looks up with a slight tilt of his head. ]
Hunting what exactly?
no subject
It depends. Sometimes it's demons, vampires and shit like that. [She waves her free hand before placing her glass down on the table.]
Other times it's people who are killing others. Magic users. Those that the police have trouble bringing in because they don't have the resources. They all have their own little quirks that make them difficult.
no subject
I'm guessing the pay is pretty decent for such a job?
[ Since these red bills aren't going to last forever. ]
no subject
[She lifts her drink to him in a quick toast before taking another sip.]
It actually varies on the bounty and how difficult it is. Some require more than one person but I'm sure you can convince someone to go with you without having to pay them. The news paper has bounties but there are boards too. The bounties from the news paper generally get grabbed pretty quickly.
A lot of people here want action when there isn't any.
no subject
Yeah, teamwork's sorta not my style.
[ It's one of the things that he usually got in trouble for back in The Order in his world. ]
Guess when you've got a bunch of people pulled from different worlds and whatever, sitting around living the cozy life ain't really what one calls fun. [ A sip. ] Least not the types I know.
no subject
[Loner came with the fuck off vibe he'd had when she first started talking to him. Luckily, Enis doesn't really care what vibe people are putting off. She's going to do her job and attempt to inform people while stopping others from doing stupid shit.]
It isn't but there are things to do around here, places to explore, bars and clubs.
[There is a little something for everyone though Enis is still attempting to find things that interest her. It's weird for her to have the freedom to even find her likes and dislikes.]
no subject
Don't tell me you're a tour guide, too.
[ That might be a bit of a joke there, sometimes it's hard to tell with him but if he's not walking away? Probably is. ]
Guess I might as well get myself comfortable here, is what you're saying, basically.
[ Since it sure as hell doesn't look like he's gonna be leaving whenever he wants. ]
no subject
Sometimes. I'm a deputy. I run towards danger when shit hits the fan, I help out the Genessia guardian and sometimes I play tour guide.
[She looks at him over her drink. She sucks at jokes that aren't sexual in nature but since she's not insulted she'll take it as a joke.]
Yes and if you'd like a full tour of the city I suppose I can do that too. [She waves a hand.] This is one of many bars in the city. [See, such a great tour guide.]
no subject
And how often does shit hit the fan?
[ No mastermind demonic bigshot trying to take over the world or anything here, right? Doesn't seem to be the case but he gets the feeling that there's moments where there's a little bit more going on than breaking and entering or little Johnny losing his temper here and there. ]
Wondering if I should be keeping my ear to the ground is all.
no subject
[She takes another sip of her drink to give herself time to think. Enis doesn't actually need the time but she's had to much practice playing human.]
Once every three months or so. It depends.
[There isn't a set time to it. It's nearly long enough for her to forget that this world has shit shows every once and awhile.]
Probably. Not just for that but odd things happen here and each city has their troubles and quirks.
no subject
[ Or something. Whatever. Either way, he takes another sip before he gives a glance around the place he's been brought to, finding it looks more the type of place a certain other demon hunter might frequent. ]
Which city would you say is the most troublesome? Everglade?
[ Since it seems to have monsters and spooks and fear. ]
no subject
[She doesn't even miss a beat in her answer.]
That place is... complicated.
no subject
[ Might help with being part demon himself. Would he fit right in? Who knows. Not like humans or demons took kindly to a hybrid; didn't really belong to either side. ]
Guess you wouldn't recommend living there then?
no subject
Everglade has a curfew. If you're out after dark you can legally get attacked by whatever. They won't come in your home though.
[It's not a horrible place to live.]
no subject
Legally attacked?
[ Well, that's some new shit he's never really heard or dealt with before. Of course, he has to give a slight chuckle under his breath at that. ]
Sounds like that place might have quite a few vacant spots available.
no subject
[Though Enis firmly believes that there should be more signs telling people that.]
I think one of the brochures by the bay has the current laws and things for Everglade. It changes from time to time but not without a lot of commotion.
no subject
Thanks.
[ A pause, he finishes taking another sip. ]
For all this.
[ Information, the drink... that sort of stuff. ]
no subject
I'm learning that being nice is better than dismissive. You have no reason to thank me.
[Plus, she secretly likes the company.]
no subject
[ Taking a sip of his drink, he licks over his lips. ]
Besides, don't wanna be known as that guy who didn't thank you and get shit for it somehow in the future.
