The sky over Genessia city are unusually densely cloudy today. Barely any light is getting through, really. Thunder has been rumbling through the clouds and the occasional bolt of lightning could be seen darting through the gray skies, but that doesn't seem to bother the people on the ground. If anything there seems to be a large party. Traffic has been blocked as nearly a thousand people, all in black robes, congregate in an intersection, their eyes locked on the skies. It is when the video feed clicks on that the cause of the commotion makes himself apparent as Kefka's face is broadcast.
"People of Genessia, rejoice! Your patience and faith has been rewarded, your god has come!" Kefka pauses as the crowd beneath him cheers and shouts praises for a moment. "I have come to cleanse this world of pain and suffering, and give unto all their heart's desire!" Another pause, and more cheering. "BEHOLD THE TRUE FACE OF YOUR GOD!"
As the cheers reach a fever pitch, Kefka's clothes begin to tear and evaporate, leaving only a single cloth around his midsection and waist. His body begins to change, six wings bursting from his back, the lanky stringy build giving way to a muscular build, the makeup and madness caked on his face shifting into a handsome face. Gone is the colorful madman, and in his place a visage fit for a god is revealed.
He raises a hand over his head, the one not holding his communicator, and instantly the clouds overhead part. However, instead of the blue skies Genessia is used to, a golden light fills the area, and again the crowd beneath Kefka is elated.
"Know this, Genessia. I am Kefka Palazzo. I am the Warring Triad given flesh. I am the source of all magic. I am power personified. To those that follow me willingly and bear my mark, I say this; chaos and bedlam are your tools. Go forth and spread my word! Kill, steal, do whatever it takes to sate your thirsts and know your reward shall be great."
The crowd beneath him is less sure of how to react to this statement, but none flinch as Kefka waves a hand over the crowd and the ground beneath their feet sinks and traps the people where they stand, encasing them up to their ankles in stone.
"To those that follow me because they have no choice, I say this. Your worship was amusing while it lasted, but it bores me now. Let's hear some terror, shall we?"
With a snap of his fingers, Kefka removes the control he had over their minds. For a moment, there is no sound, just the confused murmur of the crowd as they come to, nearly a month of their memories gone, and finding themselves rooted to the spot out in the middle of the street. Kefka raises his hand over his head again and a single shaft of light hits the ground next to the crowd, drilling into the asphalt. Slowly the shaft begins expanding and shrieks of terror begin to ring out.
"That's more like it! COME GENESSIA! CELEBRATE THE COMING OF THE GOD OF OBLIVION!"
For the rest of the broadcast, all that can be seen is Kefka's face cackling as the light behind him expands and slowly overtakes everything in the area, the wailing shrieks of those sacrificed to the light echoing until the feed finally cuts after the light engulfs even Kefka.
Once the light subsides, nothing is left standing in its wake except a single structure. A tower that appears to have been made from the wreckage of the nearby buildings, cars, lightposts, anything the light touched. It has all been twisted into a massive pile of scrap, jagged on all sides. Beasts that have never been seen in Genessia or any of its sub-cities can be seen from time to time moving within the structure and around its base. Once everything seems to have settled, three statues rise from the ground forming a perfect triangle around the tower, and a blue barrier erects itself around the structure, the points of the pyramid like barrier landing on each of the statues.

[Action/Video] Locked to Ira, Nonon, Chihiro
.. I suppose we should have seen this coming.
[She means more about the cultists leading to this more than Kefka himself; no one could predict he'd turn into that. That was a rather disturbing show. She picks up her communication device.]
Jakuzure, Gamagori, Fujisaki. Report.
[Action/Video] Locked to Ira, Nonon, Chihiro

I'm already on the way. For crying out loud, this place is even worse then back home. Its like the entire world exists just to annoy me.
[Yes, she considers a giant monster filled tower an 'annoyance', not something to be super frightened of.]
no subject
[it was making him a tiny bit nervous to say the least.]
Is there something you want me to do?
[Action/Video] It's not really possible to keep Koishi out of things.
"Miss white?" She reached back, managing to get her fingers around the edge of Junketsu's skirt. "Do you hear that? Empty and piercing and all around. I can't make sense of it. Not even a little bit."
It was not easy to unsettle or disturb the little youkai, but whatever was going on was doing just that.
[outside the tower/open, why not]
It was almost child's play for her, they fell in droves. This apparently displeased whatever originated the monsters.
Hours ago, an explosion rocked the whole of Genessia for just a moment. Hours ago, Maka saw the light bearing down on her and threw away her scythe to protect him.
Hours ago, Maka disappeared.
As things escalate, as the beasts are dispatched and access to the tower seems all the closer, one lone figure comes out of the rabble--it's Maka, but something seems off. Somehow she radiates coldness, she looks as pale as death, the scythe she's holding at rest is certainly not Soul, that crystalline sheen looks...fake.
Hours ago, Maka Albarn died. In her place comes this soulless replica to be used against those trying to infiltrate the tower and it just...smiles when it sees another person. No warmth comes from that smile, no happiness touches its eyes, just coldness and the abnormal readiness to destroy.]
Ugh forgot to turn tracking on. DX
[Satsuki is surprised by the lack of response from Ira, and her brows furrow. What could the static mean? She'd never seen that before, and earlier experiments had shown there was no way for them to normally go out of service.
At least not that she knows of.]
I've lost contact with Gamagori. It may have something to do with the tower, so do not get too close to it.
[But it's not like him to charge in without reporting. What could have happened?]
no subject
Yes, I will need you to man the communications tower of Honnouji. I am uncertain if it will keep track of us while we are inside but it is worth trying.
[Action/Video]
"I am uncertain if I am hearing the same thing as you, Komeiji." she confesses, "But if you cannot make sense of it, that doesn't bode well for the rest of us."
She gaze remains focused on the view of the towers, and doesn't seem to mind the hold upon Junketsu. "Have you contacted your sister?"
no subject
I can do that. Though I can always test it out before anyone actually goes in. If it doesn't I can try and see if Alter Ego can help.
[Action/Video]
She tightened her grip on Junketsu as she turned her gaze back toward the tower. "No. Sis would just get nervous and tell me to come home. Or she would come up to try and get me." A pause. "She might do that anyway, but she for sure might if she knows I'm here right now."
[Outside tower / Open / Come on in guys! The danger feels GREAT! ]
Maybe?
Whatever. She isn't the strategist of the team! She just bangs things and makes them go BOOM! And that's just what she does once she leads whoever followed her all this way to the tower. ]
KNOCK, KNOCK!
[ While saying the magic words she extends Magnhild to it's full length and swings it downward to hit against the barrier. A rumbling sound echos after the impact, and from the spot where the hammer hit, rings of light ripple outward. The echo dies out seconds later and the barrier returns to it's smooth and motionless state...
Then the cry of a beast can be heard, and Nora grins widely. ]
no subject
[That's an instant warning flag to the little pink haired thing. Gamagori, NOT responding to Satsuki? That is about as likely as..well, HER not responding.]
I'll be there soon. I don't have a good feeling about this, that guy is like an eager little puppy, he wouldn't ignore you.
[It almost sounds like she's worried. Almost.]
no subject
If we want to get that thing down, I think we need to destroy the statues.
no subject
Agreed. Otherwise I don't think we're going to get anywhere.
no subject
No. He had; Soul had been flung from his Meister to spare him the worst of the attack that had taken Maka’s life, and now lay convalescing in a hospital bed, insensate and as of yet unaware of her fate. At least, Kid hoped for his ignorance, even as he accepted with grim certainty that the moment Soul woke he might intuit what happened for himself. Because Maka would have been there at his side, should have been there, just like he should have been there by their side when the attack took a turn for the instantly fatal.
Too stricken by the realization even as part of him adamantly refused to believe the certainty that lay like a stone in the pit of his stomach, Kid had yet to muster the courage to tell Spirit what had become of his daughter. Rather, having failed to change out the business casual of his usual slacks and monochrome knit sweater vest, pressed shirt and bolero tie in favor of something more suitable for battle, he simply asked the Deathscythe to come with him, not to ask questions, just come, and set out for the tower. All would become clear in time.
Clarity, in this case, was staring down into the face of what was not Maka.
“I tried to tell you,” Kid utters, heavy with regret, “I just didn’t want it to be true.”
no subject
Statues?
[ There's another roar, this time a bit closer as something that sounds big and mad is making it's way over, and will pop around a corner at any moment... ]
no subject
[Hearing that roar, he pulls his gun off his back.]
But it sounds like that might have to wait.
no subject
Yeah. I highly doubt it's going to be an easy fight, so be careful.
no subject
So when they arrive at the tower, Spirit is immediately stricken. The Deathscythe stiffens, frozen in his tracks, at the appearance of the lookalike. Something about his little girl doesn't seem right, and even if she had been an utterly convincing fake the words from beside him would suggest he might reconsider.
But the blonde is holding a scythe, crystalline and not familiar to him and that alone is enough and he knows immediately and what is he supposed to do now?
Kid doesn't have to tell him.
His fingers tighten, blue eyes narrowed at the poor imitation of his only daughter. "How?"
It's too bad she couldn't get it on Ira prior. She's quite concerned.]
That's acceptable. I shall see you soon.
[OOC: After your next response I'm going to need to summarize Satsuki's plan. Possibly over plurk. D:]
[Action/Video]
She notices activity over the network and looks at her device for a moment. ".. I can only assume that Gamagoori is in there somewhere, and it appears a party is forming to take action already." ... "So that does not leave a lot of time to prepare. Once Jakuzure and Fujisaki arrive, I will have to go."
A sigh passes as she glances downward. She had built this school in hopes of dealing with matters like these efficiently. And she never would have imagined Ira would end up disappearing like this. It's another mission with everyone working blind and she doesn't like it.
no subject
The resting stance of her scythe turns into a swinging motion, passing from her left hand to her right in one dull rush of noise in the air. Now the scythe is held in front of her in a battle ready stance, an aura of black wings--almost as if the puppet is using Resonance but lacks the soul to properly utilize it--flare out as a threat display.
Just try to get past me, the puppet silently challenges. I'll cut your goddamned head off.
O-Okay, I'll be there soon hopefully.
[Action/Video]
Her third eye had closed again, though there was still a sliver of white remaining. "I can do all sorts of things. I can keep bad monsters away and I can help you focus on your magic and on Buggy. That way you can fight without distractions if you want." Hopefully offering wouldn't insult Satsuki's pride. At least as far as Junketsu was concerned. "I might be able to get you in unseen as well. But you're not psychic and you're really tall so it will be harder for me to hide you. But I can do it I think."
"If Mister Big is already there we should hurry, okay? I bet he's beating up everyone! He's really good at that!"
Feel free to control the Behemoth. <3
And she twirls her hammer as she speaks to Neptune. ]
I like the way you think. [ Smashing things just cause they can? Careful there boy or you just might steal her heart!
At the end of the hammer's twirl, Nora holds it in it's standard 'ready to kick butt' position and laughs over toward Ren. ]
You worry too much! We got this!
[ Then a giant horned beast comes around a corner. It's heavy footfalls causing nearby debris to quake under the weight of each step, and it's spiked tail sweeping aside chunks of broken pavement like dust.
Er. Nora blinks in shock and awe for a moment and then grins. ]
Does anybody got any rope?
no subject
[Neptune is absolutely confident... Until the behemoth comes into view. It's a lot bigger than he was expecting.]
No. Why, did you want to try lassoing it?
no subject
"I haven't had the full story from Soul," admits Kid, hedging. "It seems he was the only one to survive, if barely. Surely, he has Maka to thank that he's still here at all." Of course she would, of course. She would buck tradition and sacrifice herself on instinct for her partner.
That sort of devastation might just be what Soul's battling with now, in that hospital bed.
Kid curls his fingers into fists, his posture stiffening as he takes a step forward. "If we're to have any hope of getting to the one responsible, it's through her!"
no subject
Spirit stays stock still where he stands. It's not Maka, that's not Maka becomes a desperate mantra--she looks so much like the meister he struggles to stomach fighting his way through her.
"Then let's do it."
He will transform, ready to spring into unfamiliar hands. His voice is unusually violent when he speaks next, dripping with anger. "Whoever did this is going to pay."
no subject
He's not sure he can wield his Father's former Weapon, that there's a way to without compromising that aesthetic that demands so much of his attention. Ultimately, he decides: facing off against a scythe user like this poor facsimile of his friend makes this battle itself technically bilaterally symmetrical.
That makes him feel better. Marginally. What's not helping is how closed he remains, unwilling to open himself up to the scrutiny of a man he feels he has disappointed. But he can try to make do with what they have, unified at least in this common goal.
"I'm not as skilled as she'll be," he adds stoically, "I'll be counting on you to do most of the technical work. We can't fail here."
idk what to put here so this is a tag
He's able to sense the restraint; it's instinctual awareness and it makes him uncomfortable. There's a sudden sense of pending failure--that without resonance, without working truly together, they will not succeed here. This is not an option, not here and not now.
Without conscious awareness, Spirit molds his wavelength into something a bit more soothing, for both himself and the meister who currently wields him.
"Don't forget about the momentum--with guns you're fighting against recoil. Here, it's about the inertia. If you aren't careful, you can lose your footing and hurt yourself in the process."
