For some time now, Kefka's tower had sat comfortable in its little shell, unmoving, the monsters content to just attacking whoever was foolish enough to get too close. But something different was happening today. High above the tower, a brilliant ball of light was beginning to form, casting a golden hue on all it touched. On top of that the three statues at the corners of the triangular barrier looked little like statues any longer, and would even speak to any that drew near.
Something big was about to happen. The very air itself seemed charged with an unmistakable power that didn't need magical sensitivity to feel beating down from the orb overhead. Whatever was happening, any who saw the light knew that one way or another, it all ended today.

Warring Triad - Demon
The statue at the northern point of the barrier cast his burning gaze out over the surrounding area, yearning for someone or something to challenge him. At last when approached, he spoke.
"I am the Kishin Zuvran. Deity of change, purveyor of war and flame. It was my need to continually push and change that I brought war to the world, and the Espers I created. Challenge me, and face war itself. Slay me and you will be one step closer to ending the chaos I unwittingly created in my weakness."
Warring Triad - Fiend
At the southeast point of the barrier, the grotesque mass that was a statue now writhed, rooted in place. Cold dead eyes searched the surroundings as it sought something, anything, to challenge it. Finally when someone dared come close enough, its raspy voice echoed throughout the area.
"I am the Majin Sephilos. Diety of death, purveyor of decay and ice. I sought to engulf all in the cold embrace of death, to wipe clean the life that spread throughout the world with the Espers at my beck and call. Challenge me and you shall know the cold void of death. Slay me and you will be one step closer to preventing an endless void my foolishness allowed to take root."
Warring Triad - Goddess
At the southwest point of the barrier, the beautiful carving of a woman in stone had sprung to life. Even as she stood silently, eyes closed, she waited for something, anything, to come and challenge her. Once approached her pure white eyes opened and she addressed those in a tone not unlike a mother, instructing those assembled on what needed to be done.
"I am the Goddess Sophia. Diety of life, purveyor of order and lightning. It was my gift of life that brought me to the world, where I would give life to all, and to all my order, my Espers enforcing that order. I would have brought peace through strict ordering of all things with no room for change. Challenge me and you will feel the full force of the heavenly lightning at my command. Slay me, and bring the balance I was too blind to see was needed."
Inside the Tower - exploring/mingle/planning
Inside the Tower - Laboratory showdown
After some time exploring the tower, several tubes could be found lining the halls. They all seemed to lead to a single area. Just pushing open the door to where all the tubes led to would reveal a large almost impossibly large room for the outward appearance of the tower. Housed within were thousands upon thousands of tubes, each with a large crystal within. Each crystal held a person, their arms crossed over their chest as if they were in a crystal. One thing was for certain, this seemed to be the source of Kefka's power, as some familiar faces could be seen among the civilians. Even with the sounds of combat in the distance, a large mechanized tank rolled up to place itself between the crystals and those who sought to drain Kefka of his powers.
"HALT INTRUDERS! YOU ARE ON THE SACRED GROUNDS OF LORD KEFKA. SURRENDER TO CRYSTALLIZATION QUIETLY."
Summit - Final Showdown
After allowing for the eyes of those approaching the door to adjust to the light, Kefka's laugh could be heard echoing throughout the expanse. Gone was the tower, Genessia, all semblance of reality. On all sides there was nothing but what appeared to be a golden sky. There was no floor or ground to speak of either upon inspection, though there was something that could be stood on.
"It's been some time, and color me impressed, I didn't think you would make it this far. Tell me, what do you think you stand to gain by opposing me?"

Once they passed through this final door, there would be no going back. Knowing this, the reaper still expected the Deathscythe to accompany him, perhaps for the last time. Although they had together battled that abomination that dared to try and look like his friend, Kid had yet to take Spirit fully into his confidence as a Weapon.
That needed to change.
One pale hand extends out at his side, followed by the other, one of two stark and dark figures against the brilliant gold sky. The pressure of his soul swells, welcoming Spirit's wavelength with none of the hesitation of before; this is the final deciding battle, and neither of them can afford to withhold a thing. Fight with him. As his Weapon. Accept him, along with all his neurotic insufficiencies, that they might bring...
"Balance!" Kid calls out, "Supreme balance! We are here to settle this score once and for all, Kefka! You have stolen from us someone very precious, and for that..." He lifts his head, his eyes blazing like molten gold.
The trio of white stripes lift off his black hair, connecting into bright halos of light vibrating in the air around his head.
"...Your soul is forfeit!"

The confrontation with the Maka lookalike had left him more rattled than he allowed himself to show. Still, there is something comforting and familiar in Kid's wavelength despite the fact that the two haven't resonated before. His usually ebullient wavelength is decidedly somber and restrained, thinly veiling his grief.
"Be careful."
It's all the scythe can trust himself to say for now. "I'll follow your lead."

"Balance... such a fleeting concept. At least in the terms of the living. Social class, economic standing, physical strength, magical proficiency, intelligence, thinking ability... there's simply too many variables, and there always will be. Living in itself is an exercise in futile imbalance. There will always be someone below, and someone above. Even the vaunted justice humans are so fond of is handed out by someone in a position of power over others..."
Kefka descends from his spot high overhead, seemingly phasing through nothingness as if descending from within a cloud.
"There is only one true equalizer, one true order, and that is in non-existence. Tell me, did you listen to the speeches of the Warring Triad, where I chained them at the foot of my tower?"
Only after his question is asked that Kefka's toes touch down on whatever floor they stood on, his face utterly confident in leaving himself open.

As soon as she spies all those tubes, she's aware that the two of them have stumbled across something important. Sadly there isn't much time to think about it, or look for a certain familiar face, before danger makes itself known. She looks over at her unusual partner for the assault. "I don't know how accurate that thing is, but getting hit is gonna be bad news. Attack it from a different angle then me, it probably can't aim at us both." Unless it can, she doesn't know the machine's limitations, but she intends to find out! She's assuming the girl is smart enough to know what she is talking about, and flies off to one side, firing a small set of bladed musical notes out of her uniform, more to see how durable the things armor is before unloading heavy fire onto it.

Following Satsuki's direction, the little satori followed Nonon into the air to join the assault on the tower. She was not as fast as the pink haired human and her uniform, nor would she ever be. But even without the aid of jet boosters she more than proved herself in an aerial dogfight with unmatched agility coupled with magic thorns, exploding bolts of magic, and rage fueled lances of burning thought visible to the naked eye.
Keifka's mininos and defenses were not few, Koishi falling easily into the role of wingman, keeping enemies off of Nonon's flank and sides. When they finally broke in Koishi's anger focused instantly on the tank. It was steel and electronics, but there was a spark of thought in it. The ability to think and understand.
Koishi bolted off in the other direction, firing off a single red hot, jagged beam of thought aimed straight at the tank's "mind." The external projection of her own thought would be softened by the machine's armor and components, but it shouldn't take too much to scramble its perception. After all, a mind was nothing but electrical impulses. Even an electronic one.

"THREAT ANALYSIS COMPLETE. INITIATING PROTOCOL 9003T-B."
With that declaration made, the treads on the tank's smaller base began spinning faster than one might assume possible given the tank's size. Once in motion, matching both girls in terms of maneuverability, a compartment opened on the tank's top as a volley of missiles launched from the compartment.

She should have known it wasn't going to be that easy. If it was so limited, it probably wouldn't have been placed to protect something that seemed so important. Still, she wasn't unprepared when the attack comes her way. "You think some hunk of metal is going to stop me? That's ridiculous. Metal barely even qualifies as music! I...ah, hold on I'm still talking!" Why is she bothering to try to insult a tank? Because Nonon, why else? But it seems too busy shooting missiles at her and also being a tank to really care. Not everyone of those ones fire at her is going to be dodged easily, so she returns fire, aiming to shoot some of them out of the air before they can reach her.

She paused a little in the air, still scattering some petals, the corner of her mouth tightening as she projected a single magic rose forward, solidifying it just above the port where the missiles were exiting. It wouldn't do much to block the barrage, but if it caused a chain reaction it might certainly cause damage. Or at least knock out or damage that particular weapon.
This did take her attention off of the existing missiles, however, a petal detonating one much too close and burning her leg enough to unsteady her flight, causing her to drop in altitude..

"REASSESSING THREAT LEVELS. ...THREAT LEVELS REASSESSED."
Once the hatch closed, the tank spun to face Koishi, aiming both arms directly at the Satori. The cannons began to glow for a moment before firing off a barrage of Atomic Rays at the little Satori, for the moment ignoring Nonon.

After weathering the first assault with minimal injury, Nonon starts to plan her counterattack, only to see that the satori has beat her to the punch. Beat her there and put herself at risk at the same time. With them being in different areas of the sky there's no hope she can reach the girl in time, she'll have to fend for herself.
Being ignored, however, lets Nonon crank up her offense. A sound fills the room, one that the machine might not be able to recognize, but anyone with even a passing familiarity with classical music would be able to place instantly. It starts slow, but quickly speeds up, much like the small musician's anger.
"It is impolite to ignore a musician during their performance! Even if you are a machine, I expect better manners out of you." She has her baton in hand, holding it downwards as she speaks. She raises it upwards and then, with a dramatic swipe that is likely completely wasted as one of them is a machine and the other is worrying about their own life, she launches a barrage of missiles at the machine. For what its worth, she is at least trying to aim away from you, Koishi!

She was charging up another attack when the tank turned to face her, is own arm cannons glowing as it charged. She managed to loose the strike, aiming at what she hoped was some sort of eye or optical sensor. She scarcely had time to lean her head forward and throw up a shield as it fired, both beams hitting the sphere of energy. Hard. The energy cracked the shield. The beams bent and split, cascading over the rounded surface, burning the wall behind her as the little youkai was pushed back with increasing speed, the shield shattering as it hit the wall. The little satori collided with it a moment later, her head smacking it hard. She slumped partway down the wall, dazed but very much conscious.
At least the blast had pushed her out of range of Nonon's missile barrage.

Even with its attention split though, the diabolical device was going for a kill, slamming into the wall where Koishi had impacted before spinning its treads in the opposing direction and focusing solely on Nonon.
For love and beauty!
When the preachers had made their moves, and Kefka had made his announcement over the communicators, he'd been keeping an eye from the shadows -- he had no wish to make Kefka aware of his presence until the chance came to strike against him. There was little point wasting his energy striking out at the random monsters around the tower, either. He wanted to hurt Kefka in a way that mattered.
Such a chance came when he saw the tower change for the first time since it emerged. The air was electric, and sent a shiver up the spine of the former Overlord. Now was the time to act.
Using the flight charm Koishi had leant him, Midboss flew for the barrier and it's Guardians. If he could not get to Kefka himself, bringing these statues down would at least open the way for others, or so he assumed.
The living statue at the Northern Point was the first to catch his eye. The tension surrounding it, that fiery gaze not unlike that of a demon seeking challenge...that was what drew him in. As the guardian spoke, Midboss chuckled softly.
"Change cannot always be brought about by war, and it is not a force that I am afraid to fight" he said cooly, taking on a battle stance. "En guarde! I, the Dark Adonis Vyers, shall be your opponent!"

"Progress is built on the ashes of war. In order to create something new, the old must first be burned away."
If Mid-Boss was paying attention to the tone and exact wording, he might even find that the demon was referring to himself.
no subject
He did pick up on that, and as such, he responded in kind. About the future of his own world.
"Non, it is more simple than that. For something new to be created--" Midboss aimed a blast at his weapon arm, before attempting to dart in behind the Kishin. "--then those who will carry the future must gain enough power to shape the future themselves. That is all!"

And despite this, her song never missed a beat. She had far too much devotion to her art to be distracted by something like a half assed attack. Even when Koishi falls, the music does not come to an end. Its a relief the thing doesn't brutalize the little satori even more. With it focusing solely on her, there's a chance she might make it out of this alive. "That's right, you useless thing. The real performance is up here! Let me show you the difference between a silly little girl and the elite! The sound of you collapsing into bits will go nicely with Mussorgsky's composition!"
Even when her opponent is entirely unable to process her attempts to taunt it, the girl can't help but throw out a few. Perhaps that arrogance will come back to bite her before its all over and done with but for now she seems to be doing okay. She isn't wallsplat yet at least! With the thing focusing entirely on her for the moment things would be more difficult, so she'd have to get more serious. The little satori had the right idea in disabling the weaponry rather then just shooting aimlessly, so that is her aim. A barrage of missiles is launched, but they are merely a feint. The real attack follows afterwards. Launched at a faster speed so as to catch up and overtake the missiles is a barrage of blades in the shape of musical notes. B sharp had never been so literal! They seemed capable of at least damaging the thing, so her aim was to pierce the barrel of the main cannon.
But even that trick attack had a trick to it. Some of the blades were intentionally aimed in what would seem to be the wrong place, with a large amount of them seeming to fly past the machine. Her goal is to place a field of blades in the things general vicinity, with a good amount of them between the tank and Koishi. They probably wouldn't do serious damage to run over, but she wasn't trying to win the battle solely with them. Even a little bit of damage to those treads might hinder mobility. And once that happened, she could unleash the bigger weapons without worrying about hitting the wrong thing. Like injured girls, for instance.

It hit her on the left side, partially crushing her against the wall, the initial crash accompanied by the sickening sounds of bones snapping as her shoulder, collar bone, scapula, and quite a few of her ribs were broken causing additional internal damage. It was certainly not enough to kill the youkai, but it certainly hurt. A lot.
The impact ripped a scream from her, a small erratic shock of psychic energy rippling outwards. It was not the worst pain she had experienced, however, and her survival instincts were working on overtime. Extending her right arm, three or four tentacles shot out, wrapping around the nearest thing, some sort of console, dragging herself out of the tank's immediate path. It was not smooth, nor was it painless, though the adrenaline was helping.

Being rooted to a single spot did limit the Kishin's movements, but that made him far from defenseless. The blast made the demon-god's arm flinch but soon after, he thrust the tip of the halberd into the ground, causing a pillar of flame to erupt around him, engulfing him in a geyser of flame and magma.
"The stench of stagnation weighs heavily on you."

And speaking of avoiding, it was becoming a bit more difficult now that all the firepower was aimed at her. Weaving between them took up so much of her attention she barely had a chance to counterattack. More then one came so dangerously close to her that she could feel the heat as it passed her by, and she didn't dare launch any explosives for fear of having them explode right in her face. Unlike the tank, she couldn't take a lot of hits before she was shot down. She was a person, not a hunk of metal after all. That much became obvious when one of the attacks makes it past her defenses and explodes dangerously close to her, sending her flying backwards with visible burns on her skin. It wasn't even a quarter a bad as what poor Koishi had suffered, but it was enough to remind her just how dangerous her position was.
But the show must go on, she was devoted to that if nothing else. Even as she twirled and weaved away from explosions, music still filled the room. It was actually this music that gave her a chance to counterattack. A frustrated look crosses her face, quickly shifting into anger. "You aren't playing your part in the performance!" A blast of sound is launched from her uniform's speakers, clearing away the fireballs for a short period of time, just long enough for her to counterattack. If your arms aren't broken, you should probably cover your ears, Koishi. This one was going to be loud!
A three pronged attack is launched, the first a wave of sound to hopefully knock some fireballs out of the way. The second, a wave of blades to knock away some armor if she's lucky. The third, a handful of missiles, fired a few moments later to hopefully not collide with the explosions of the first ones!

She wasn't out of the fight yet, however. Her friend was still fighting and the tank was still rolling around. And she was more durable than the pink haired terror. But there wasn't much she could do from here.
Holding up her good arm, she reached out toward the tank, her magi manifesting, creating several thorny rose vines that crept rapidly to the tank. They branched and divided like fractal into smaller and more numerous vines, weaving their way into any crevice they could manage, growing and fattening, the thorns helping to anchor them in place.
It wouldn't be long before the tank noticed, but hopefully she could jam its weaponry or its treads before then. Or even pry off some of its armor plates...
She visibly flinched as the musian blasted the tank with sound several moments later, pressing her right ear to he ground, her left eardrum shrieking and then cracking painfully. She grit her teeth through it, redoubling her efforts. She was a youkai. A broken eardrum would heal... well, assuming she survived the encounter.

"Trying to steal the spotlight?" She flashes a grin at Koishi. "I'll forgive you just this once." There isn't too much time to be cocky however, that thing IS still firing at her, even if a lot of its artillery isn't able to aim skyward. There hasn't been a better time for her to unload the whole fight, and now that Koishi has revealed she is still active, they had to end it fast before the thing finished her off!
"Its time to end this performance! I doubt you have feelings, but consider yourself lucky to get to be destroyed to the classics!"
With only the main cannon firing on her, it becomes easier for her to evade and fire at the same time. Rather then a wide spread sonic boom, she fired what could best be described as a concentrated beam of classical music, a more directed sonic attack then she had used previously. Consider yourself lucky, little hurt youkai. She's thinking about you up there!
Of course that was just the first part of the attack. The second comes in the 'big one' she was holding off on using before. With less being shot at her it was safe to fire it. The attack in question is itself nothing special, its just a larger missile. A larger missile that looks just a little bit like a flute. Think she takes her music schtick seriously enough? "I've got more important things to do then play with toys. Stop wasting my time!"

The vines were absolutely relentless, invading further and further into the tank, into moving parts, under plates of armor, putting pressure on every joint, every weak spot as the vines took up more and more space. Eventually they might start finding their way into the internal components of the tank. But only if the musician didn't break it first.

"Hmph. If this is holy ground, I guess you can consider it defiled!"
She wants to search for Gamagori right away, but there is something that needs tending to first. She zips for the ground, landing near Koishi.
She's no good at comforting people, so she isn't sure what to say. She wants to tell the girl she did a good job, she really does, but instead what comes out is colder then what she is really thinking. Of course if Koishi has the energy for it, she might be able to see through the facade. "...Are you going to be able to move on your own? I need to find who we came here for. If you can't move, just wait there, I'll come back for you." Even all things considered, it wasn't too mean.
And then came the tedious part. Finding which one of those crystals their giant friend was sealed inside of. At least she could rule out all the small ones!

No, she'll stay right here, thank you. Her mangled arm was in a position that didn't cause any additional pain. And she wasn't losing blood so quickly she was at a risk of bleeding out soon. And the hole in her lung was kept sealed by the rib that made it, keeping the blood seeping in slow. The little satori could lay there without treatment for some time before her life really became at risk...
But Nonon should probably hurry all the same.
/laaaate
It's powers were not what bothered him, though.
"I would hardly call one as beautiful as myself stagnant. Even as the new future is formed, my influence cannot be eclipsed!"
Except Laharl already had done just that. He defeated Baal, become a powerful Overlord in his own right, greater than even he'd been as Overlord Krichevskoy.
\o/ No worries
"Beauty is a fleeting thing. A flower blooms in one week and is swept away by the winds of change as time moves ever onward without it. One light burns bright and is snuffed out as another takes its place, building on the ashes of its predecessor to burn brighter and longer. Your flame has gone out."
^^
"Silence!" he hissed, clenching his fists and quickly moving around him again. "A flame cannot go out when there are still those who seek it's warmth!"
But Laharl didn't need him, did he? Neither did Etna or Flonne. Terra had disappeared, so had Kodachi.
...Who really needed Krichevskoy, now?
Focus. He had to focus. Fire curled into his fists for just a moment before he shot them towards Zuvran. Instead of aiming straight for him, however, they curled around to try and slam into his back.

"And a flame cannot burn to its fullest if it relies on others for fuel, and not burn the very air around it!"
As if to accentuate the point the Kishin threw a large ball of magma through the trail of explosions adding more to the chaos.
