[As soon as Azalea sees this, she immediately thinks of Coco and how much she misses him. Her feelings for him come flooding back, so she wants to tell Terra all about it...but finds the description difficult to put together.]
Love...I know I've felt it, but it's not as easy to describe as I'd like it to be.
When you fall in love with someone...it's like they fill an emptiness within you that you didn't even know that you had. You feel...a strong attachment to them, and you can't imagine living life without them.
Poets and philosophers have been trying to define love for as long as we've had them; it's a bit hard to pin down, and I'm sure you'll get plenty of different answers.
As for me, I've always liked the "sincere, unselfish wish for the ultimate good of another person" definition. Or animal, or whatever it is that's being loved.
Of course, other emotions often get involved, which is part of the problem when it comes to finding an easy definition. Affection, attraction, attachment, that sort of thing.
Love... Is complicated. Love lets us see the good in a person, even if others might not see it. Love makes you want to help them, be with them no matter what. Love is probably the best feeling one can ever have.
However love is also something that hurts when one is betrayed by someone they care for with all of their heart.
Jerry, of all people, has it nearly right. Amazing! "Let the wisdom of age speak", I suppose. I'd like to add on to his response.
Yes, love is the bound and earnest will for its object's good. To accomplish that, you must know the object (for it is very hard to love what you don't know), have some idea of its potential (the culmination of its good), and discern between good and evil. Knowledge, vision, and morality, in other words.
Naturally there will be sentiments which help or hinder it along, at turns. Eros, or erotic love, has quite the cocktail of these. But it's important to distinguish between the surrounding euphoria and love itself. A few silly people have talked as if love were all feeling. They are wrong. It's will, which will continue to love without the aid of the feelings if need be. Besides, those who depend upon feeling for love often get divorced.
And there are so many degrees and kinds of love, too. The ultimate is Agape, but there's also need-love, gift-love, appreciative-love.
[Dante appears with more than a little smirk on his face.]
Ah, the time old question. What is love?? I don't know if this really helps but I'm reminded of one of the great poets of my world and a thing he wrote on the subject.
[He clears his throat, placing one hand on his heart and overacting the crap out of the next bit.]
I don't know why you're not there I give you my love, but you don't care So what is right? And what is wrong? Gimme a sign
What is love? Baby don't hurt me, don't hurt me, no more.
[He takes a moment, bows and pantomimes waving to an adoring audience because he's just that big of a dork.]
[And off camera in the same apartment as Dante is a clapping, adoring audience! In the form of one cyborg who's cheering and whistling to add to the complete dork factor of the event.]
For me, it was very hard for me to actually tell when I felt it. It could be because of what issues I've had in the past, but once I realized how I felt. It's quite nice.
I don't know. I mean, I always thought love was when a cute guy wanted to give you things all the time, but my parents have been married forever and Dad doesn't buy Mom a lot of stuff unless it's a special occasion. So maybe the presents are just insurance?
Except...oh, boy, how do you know when you feel it? Like, how do you know when you'd stay with someone even if they didn't buy you things or take you out to fancy French restaurants?
Love? I don't think it's the same for everyone. I really don't believe there's a real way to describe it. It's different for everyone and it's different depending on who it is someone loves.
There's romantic love, love between friends...I could go on, but I would just bore you.

It sounds complicated.
[She is starting to feel a little overwhelmed.]
Isn't there anything simple about just knowing if they've felt love at all?

That is a song about love... but it doesn't sound like you know what love is either.
