[ ozpin has collected all the information he needs to feel relatively comfortable finally introducing himself. he knows there are enemies here, and he knows there could be more enemies to come. he knows the majority of his students have experienced quite a lot of trauma in recent weeks, and he knows that he seems to be the only actual adult here to deal with any of it.

worst of all, most of this is his fault, and ozpin seems to be delightfully absent for most of it.

so, after dwelling on that for a moment, the feed turns on to show ozpin in a chair, in a corner of a bookstore that seems to be mostly empty. his cane is leaning against the table and while he still looks somewhat tired and worn down, his eyes are bright and he has a warm smile in place. ozpin has always been horrendous at playing the game, especially when such things are at stake. perhaps peace has made him lazy -- or perhaps he just genuinely believes that everything will be overcome.

at any rate, his students (and the others here) need him to be the leader that he proclaimed to be before everything went to utter hell, and so when he speaks, ozpin sounds like a conversationalist, calm and at the ready. ]

Hello.

[ it's almost like today is a normal day, with yet another inspirational monologue from professor ozpin. ]

It seems that quite the collective of my students have taken root in this city, and transformed it into their own. [ weiss. ] I wish I could say that I could bring half of what they have to this place, but I'd rather not disappoint you all.

[ probably too late for that. ]

But as for introductions -- my name is Ozpin. I am the Headmaster of Beacon Academy, for those from Remnant who may not recognize me. [ which should be no one, but you can never be too sure. ] I've already spoken with several of my students, and it seems that our world has become rather popular in terms of new arrivals... but to the students I haven't yet had the opportunity to see, and the students that I don't have the pleasure of calling my own... I would very much like to speak with you. Privately.

[ the slightest hint of his teacher voice, but it's gone in an instant, and ozpin returns to his faint smile. he's not going to waste time concerning himself with roman torchwick or emerald or anyone else who happens to show up. they will come find him if they wish to speak more. ]

As for the rest of you, if you would indulge me with suggestions on where to locate a decent cup of coffee, I would be forever in your debt. In addition, I would also like to hear some of the positives of this place -- what do you like to do? What are your hobbies? Your work? You would be surprised how effective positivity can be in curing most problems.

{ ozpin inclines his head toward his cane (and the untouched cup), with a slightly knowing look. ]

I've had something of a rough week.

[video, private --> action] thanks for not dying, maybe they can get coffee later

[ He's just about to ask "then why are you at a bookstore if you're so bent out of shape???" but he bites it back. Questions later when he's not on some communication device that he hasn't had a chance to fully explore yet. So instead, he comes out with: ]

I'll see you soon.

[ Please stand-by while he figures this shit out some more and makes a beeline for his buddy's location. Level up in new world knowledge! It takes a little longer than he'd care to admit, even though he's brand new to this world and he's way out of his comfort zone. But he eventually does make it and quietly searches between shelves until he spots Ozpin. ]

There you are, old friend.

[ Wow, dude, you look like shit. ]
generallystiff: (do I not look mighty and powerful)

[action] well that sucks for a coffee addict like you bro

[ Leave it to Ozpin to look like he's lived somewhere forever when - if he's asking where the best place to find coffee - he's probably not too familiar with this place either. ]

That depends on your definition of well.

[ He takes a quick survey of their immediate surroundings - old habits - as he sits across from Ozpin. While he would have preferred to keep his back to the wall, he'll trust that his friend doesn't want him stabbed or something from behind.

Though for every bit comfortable his friend looks, Ironwood looks like someone took something made of his surname and shoved it up his ass, even after adjusting in his seat. He doesn't like being abducted, let alone by forces unknown that won't make their demands known. He doesn't like not knowing what he's likely to face. And he certainly doesn't like having very little to no control over his current situation.

Still, he's a soldier at heart. And soldiers must be able to adapt to whatever comes their way. Didn't mean he had to like what was going on, but he'd find a way to deal.
]

Is this where you've been hiding all this time?

[ Granted, it's been a few months since Ozpin's disappearance, but maybe time works weird here. ]

[ He waits until Ozpin finishes talking before sloooooooowly leaning back in his chair with a drawn out exhale. To most, he might look exasperated. Really though, he's relieved, indicated by the slight drop of his shoulders and a tiny fraction of his tension vanishing.

Only a tiny bit because he's still left with questions. For starters, where did you go? He'd never come off as the type of man who would up and go AWOL without a word to anyone. Unless Glynda or Qrow knew where he was and weren't sharing, but... no, he had more faith in them than that. Only finding his cane had felt like a terrible omen at the time, an it still didn't sit all too well with him, even after his return to Atlus to deal with... things.
]

If your students' reactions are anything to go by, I'm sure you must have gleaned by now that you have been sorely missed. And it does truly gladden me that you're still alive, old friend. When we saw the state of the Vault, we did wonder...

[ James had even dared hope that Ozpin had somehow survived, perhaps found somewhere to crawl off to in order to recover.

There's a brief pause to fold his hands on the table between them and adjust his posture, then:
] But if you were defeated, where did you vanish off to?
generallystiff: (maybe we can work something out)

[action] tmw i realized he sounds like a child complaining about lack of info from a parent

[personal profile] generallystiff 2016-02-21 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
[ ...He certainly looks comfortable enough to sleep, something James isn't sure he should be envious or wary of. Or both.

But Ozpin's aura breaking? He'd known the Maidens' were great, but to hear about it from a firsthand source for once in his life was on a level of emotion he didn't care to identify. It was one he quickly locked down on and channeled it to something more productive. Such as devising tactics for a fresh attempt. It would very likely take a combined effort to defeat Amber's killer... Pyrrha and Ozpin's separate fights proved as much.
]

Currently...?

[ Apparently, Ozpin wasn't going to elaborate. He grimaced when he did continue, but what he was offered was unsatisfying in its own right. ]

Why not let me decide on that for myself? Even if I'm not the one running around Remnant looking for you personally, if I do get back to Atlas, I could at least pass on the information to those who need it.

[ Given that he actually remembers anything he's told here....... Something that hasn't quite crossed his mind yet. ]

[ A frown creases his face at what he thinks will be a full rebuff. Was this his punishment for bringing an armada to Beacon? For not telling Ozpin the truth about Penny? He's two seconds from heaving a sigh and deciding to pry the information from him at a later date when he offers a tidbit. Nothing more, nothing less. It's a start.

A start that has his stomach which still exists in its fleshy state, thank you very much drop, but he doesn't look surprised. It made sense, someone - perhaps Cinder - capturing Ozpin after his defeat. It would explain the abandoned cane and his complete vanishing act without a word to anyone.
]

Thank you for telling me that much, at least. Am I going to have to wait to hear who has you prisoner, or do you not know yet?
generallystiff: I like my coffee black as hell and bitter as my three ex-wives (how many times must I tell you)

[action] yaaaaaaay ;u;

[ Instead of mild grumbling, his frown twitches, but it soon vanishes. That's about as much of an explanation as he's going to get for now. Otherwise they'll be looking at an argument between a brick wall and the ocean, with James as the former. But as much as he'd like a clue, some hint, the reasoning given makes perfect logical sense.

Still, he's internally uneasy with not knowing who they should be preparing to go after to get Ozpin back.
]

I understand. If it turns out you are wrong, and any of us [ *cough*QROW*cough* ] go after the wrong target, it would alert the one truly holding you of any rescue attempts.

[ And that might tempt his captor into just killing him. Which no one wants. Ozpin's simply too important to lose. ]

My only hope is that you won't be gone for much longer.

Yes, I heard that as well.

[ Even after returning to Atlas, he's been trying to stay in touch, given the situation. See Qrow? He knows where the goddamn send button is. 8T Sometimes slipping in a question if anyone's heard anything about his buddy's whereabouts. But so far, nothing. It's been a month, maybe two. Time melts together when fighting what feels like an endless stream of Grimm while trying to supplement his army so his non-automated soldiers can get some rest. ]

Though for your sake, and the world's, I hope you do. The world still needs you, Oz.

[ So you better come home!!!!!! Or else Jimmy's gonna be one sad half-robot. 8( ]
generallystiff: you get a gold star for the day (oh *bravo*)

And you undervalue your own importance.

[ Ozpin's much more honest smile gets him to relax a little more. For the first time since arriving in Genessia, a slight smile twitches, quirking up his lips on one side, accompanied by a laugh disguised as a cough. How long that tiny grin lasts is yet to be determined. ]

Still, I'll hold you to doing your best on staying alive. For now, I believe you were saying something about coffee? Have half your students already led you to find the best brews in town?

[ You could use a subject change to something cheerier, right friend? Ironwood's pretty sure he's gotten as much out of Oz as he can for one chat over what happened.

...Though hot coffee does sound good, especially if he can spike it.

That many? You may as well look into reopening Beacon here if that's the case.

[ IT'S A SORT-OF JOKE. LOOK. IRONWOOD HAS A MILD SENSE OF HUMOR. THE UNICORN HAS REARED ITS HEAD. ]

Then what do you say we check it out? With so many good reviews, I could use something to recharge a little.
