[When the feed clicks on, he can be seen standing in the middle of Attleton's Colosseum, much to the annoyance of the spectators and assembled fighters.]
I have gone far too long without a decent challenge. As such, I have decided that I will not leave the Colosseum until that need is satiated. This is an open challenge to any and all who wish to test their mettle, come find me, and I will engage any who step into this arena. Be warned, however. I will not hold back. I intend to exercise my power to the absolute fullest for the first time since setting foot in this place.

[Mewtwo gave Ted and the Gengar a glare he had not used on the man before. The usual calm collected demeanor given way to something far more savage... almost feral.]
Before we begin, I feel obligated to inform you that I chose this place specifically because the penalties of death do not apply here in the same way they do outside these walls. ...And if you stay in the ring, I will consider you a target as well, Theodore.
Re: [Action]
Okay, back to seriousness. "I won't be a party to that perversity, then. I'll be cheering you from the sidelines, Gengar. Do your best, and play nice." Ted knew men should not fight Pokémon, at least not for sport. Thankfully, Gengar always had an independent streak, and something like cleverness. If any of his menagerie could battle autonomously, he could. "I'll pick you up once this is over."
Gengar waved him off nonchalantly, eyes still focused on Justice. "(Yeah yeah. No promises.)"
[Action]
Mewtwo stares down the Gengar, a ball of purple energy forming between its hands, launching a powerful Shadow Ball at the ghost with little to no warning.
Basing all his stuff on Pokken, the best of Gengar canons
Well, whatever. There's other ways to mold the shadows, which Gengar would show presently. The ghost is, like most of his species, very fast, having time to anticipate and counter the attack with one of his own. A trickster of a fighter, Gengar was unique in his ability to fade in and out of the material world
and abuse i-frames. He tipped himself on one leg, winding up his left arm, before blinking in and out. As the ball neared him, he vanished, reappearing a few feet in front of his starting position. When he did, Gengar punched the air in front. His charged arm went into a small dark portal. Two portals opened up from behind Mewtwo, with two large dark-purple fists which made Gengar's own limbs look diminutive by comparison. It was Gengar's favorite attack: the Shadow Fist, always keeping opponents on their toes as it could come from anywhere with little warning.
Just as valid as any canon!
The fists impacted the shield Mewtwo always kept around himself, knocking the floating Pokemon back a few feet, but that didn't last long as Mewtwo shot himself forward. As he did, blades of bright purple energy formed along Mewtwo's arms, resembling daggers as Mewtwo slashed at the Gengar. The blows would not have the same impact as some of his other attacks given his physical abilities, but it wouldn't do to simply end the battle this soon, would it?
If only he had the broken af mega evolve. One day...
"Hyeeah!" A split second later, Gengar yelled and appeared from above, swiping with his stubby ghost feet, trying to get a literal drop on Mewtwo. If it actually worked, it'd be a good set up to get the juggling going.
Mewtwo does have the added benefit of Smash stuff to pull from as well.
Two could play at that game, and in fact he would be. As the kick came from above, Mewtwo vanished in a brief flash of light, teleporting behind the ghost. He waved a hand in front of him, sending a wave of kinetic energy to mess with Gengar's sense of gravity while simultaneously anticipating and protecting himself from any potential projectile counter attacks the ghost may have up its sleeve.

He totally meant to do that.

Mewtwo arched an eyebrow as he watched the arc of the sludge bombs, noting their location before returning to the offense. Opting to keep his distance for the moment, he quickly fired off three small and low-power Shadow Balls intending to knock the Gengar off balance before following up with something stronger.

Mewtwo had been readying a full powered Shadow Ball on the heels of the barrage. He had not expected Gengar to recover quite so quickly and as such the fist hit him full in the face, knocking him backward into one of the Sludge Bombs awaited and detonated on contact.
When the smoke cleared, Mewtwo was laying on his back, eyes fixed on the sky above. For any other opponent, that one-two would've been a game ender. This was the sort of contest he'd been missing. The sort of contest he'd been craving. Half a second later, and Mewtwo pulled himself back into the air, a small smirk curling his lips as his eyes flared a brilliant blue and psychic energies began filling the arena. It had been so long since a foe had required Psychic to bring them down.

Mewtwo didn't stay earthbound long; Gengar was too late to capitalize, owing to the oppressive telekinetic atmosphere around him. When it came to this battle, psychic attacks would be his Achilles' heel. Were it not for the strength-sapping effect of the sludge bomb, that probably would've been the end for him. He's built for speed and savagery. Sturdiness, however, did not belong to the wispy phantom.
Struggling through the attack like a gale, Gengar edged just near enough to retaliate. His form turned into a dark, red-and-purple whirlwind. Gengar became a column of vengeful air, designed to knock pesky airborne enemies out of the sky.

As the ghostly tornado neared, Mewtwo focused his efforts on reinforcing his barrier. The energy shone around him in a brilliant blue as the sapphire orb formed around him once more. However, it didn't just engulf him, but rather began to expand outward, forming a wall of energy that Gengar would have to breech if it wanted to get at its prey.

He hopped into the air, made a circle, then expanded every limb as he made a burst of ethereal energy. From underneath Mewtwo came a large, jagged, cartoon shape of power in the form of Gengar's face. This was Astonishment; a two-dimensional spike that's normally used to launch a foe. Here it would serve just as well to damage one already there.
But that was just the opener. Gengar vanished, only to reappear as a charging torpedo with unexplained momentum. As Gengar's pointy extremities formed the edge of the Astonish, so his head would crash into the barrier with the last of its might.

The attack did its job well, momentarily distracting Mewtwo and forcing him into a defensive posture. However, his barriers were one thing Mewtwo specialized in, and though the attacks hit, the barriers held. Afterward, Mewtwo took stock of the situation and realized something. Though the Gengar was strong and put up an impressive fight, he wouldn't be able to push him any farther.
"I believe this is where we should end things. You fought valiantly, and were impressive, however you are not ready to face me. Not yet. Train, and I will gladly accept your challenge again."

Gengar wanted to struggle. He hated losing at all times, but especially to 'Justice', whom he hated for other, more particular reasons. Would he ever live this down? Bitter to the end, he was trying to fire off a pathetic, last-ditch shadow ball before being brought to captivity again. His last words were a more verbal curse. Fortunate that poke-speech is foreign to most ears, else they'd hear a swear only a poison-type could utter.
Once returned, Ted put him in a ringside seat beside himself. Gengar fussed, furious that Ted or Mewtwo or God wouldn't let him, if not win, at least lose with the dignity of finality. Conveniently, being beaten so thoroughly left him with little energy to resist, misbehaved as is his wont. His master tried to comfort and strengthen.
"You did well, Gengar. But not well enough. For that, you must watch and observe. Look closely. Learn. One day, you'll have to beat him within an inch of his life." Ted still nursed his own plans for Justice, and Gengar was the cornerstone. But the cornerstone wasn't cooperating, turning his head away in contempt.
"...and for every fight of his you watch, I'll get you those jalapeno poppers you like." That did the trick, as the ghost reluctantly agreed, with mixed hopes of his own. Gengar wasn't sure if he wanted to see Mewtwo crushed, or victorious, and thus more preserved for Gengar's own comeuppance.
Ted wasn't sure how close Gengar was. He had no idea if they'd encountered a fresh Mewtwo, or one well-weathered from similar fights. Maybe it didn't matter. Gengar was the strongest pokemon he had; perhaps the strongest, in another way, in the world. He just had to realize that strength, and prove it in the usual way.

As Gengar was withdrawn, Mewtwo closed his eyes for a moment, a blue aura surrounding and enveloping him completely. Once the light faded, all the battle damage that Gengar had left on him had vanished. Recovering between battles had been slightly taxing but it left him fresh for the next challenger at the very least.

Once the fun was over, Ted remembered some vague hint of matters and went to see Justice off. He felt awkward; he'd just witnessed someone he cared for hog the whole arena for selfish purpose, and he's coming down to exchange pleasantries. Gengar was put away, of course. Even Ted knew how he might behave here.
"So, ah...thank you for the...[Battle? Roughhouse? Show?]
...experience. I'm sure Gengar had fun too. Good evening."
