[he looks at the bracelets and shrugs] Well never mind. They're pretty cool huh?

[he looks pointedly away from Smoker and looks for something cool and exciting to do]

We could do the coffee cups. I still want to see if I can fly.

Fly? Don't break it Portgas. But yeah, I wanted to go on them again with someone who likes it as fast as possible.

[Scrunches his cheek.] And we should see if we can find any kids who want to go as fast as possible too. [ALTHOUGH SMOKER IS GENUINELY WORRIED THAT IF HE AND PORTGAS TRY TOGETHER THEY WILL BREAK IT...]

[Pokes Ace's cheek.] So why did you swipe so many if you thought they lasted even longer?

[Smoker didn't care if he swiped them? Weird.]

I dunno they looked cool.

[doesn't want to walk ahead of him though and waits for him to go ahead]

Want me to rope some kids?

[Weird Smoker was weird but whatever.

Ace is caught for a minute by his gloved hands, and looks away again wishing he didn't want to take them off with his teeth]

No, just if any in line want to go fastest.

Portgas, at least pay for them or donate them to orphans to use, don't just use them for accessories.

[But he takes Ace's hand in his own, trying to figure out the cost of them all.]

[Ace, takes his hand away from Smoker's and puts some space between them, putting his own hands in his pockets. What the hell was all that about? Why hold hands? Ahh...]

Yeah sure if I see any I'll give 'em one. [because he can just swipe more]

[The line for the coffee cups was pretty long so Ace drifted ahead and cut several teenagers off, ignoring their protests]

Fine, old man I'll wait back here with the old people. Shoot me if I fall asleep.

[throws back his head and snores loudly]

Want me to carry you, grandson of Garp?

Ew no. [scoots away from Smoker again.] Stop being weird. [he liked the laugh but it's warring with the mental image of being carried bridal style]

Fu-- Sc-- Go to hell. [kicks in the shin] Do you want to ride the stupid coffee cups or what?

[Stupid Portgas, stop being cute when you're petty and angry.]

I'll do what I want. [have another kick. And he just...decides to pettily step on the back of the teen's shoe so that he almost steps out of it.

Sorry about that. My bad. [hasty bow to the teen and then stepping by Smoker's side]

[Gestures towards food.]

Why were you picking on the kid?

[follows. Why? Well-- Revenge mostly, but he feels bad now.

[Tugs him around the neck in a gruff psuedo-hug.]

I hear the junk food here is pretty good. My treat, so long as you don't break my wallet.

[why was he so touchy? Ace would allow it but only because he'd messed up]

Sure... But... we can't go there, there, there, visit that guy, that lady still hates me and um...that's not a great place to go either.

Are you aware that most of these people are not out to get you, just trying to eke out a living? When you were growing up and couldn't just run away from one island to another, how did you ever think you were going to deal with the consequences of being recognized?

There are five cities here, but you're not going to be able to avoid everyone forever. Stop acting like what you do doesn't matter!

[a shrug. He does feel a little bad about that too. Well the eking out a living thing.]

It was a big place. [and they'd had a rotation going. Sometimes it would be a year or two before they'd hit a place again.]

Anyway it matters but I'm not going to be here forever....
