Event Log (Finding the Cure)

Welcome to Happy Heights!
Attleton's premier amusement park!

Or at least it used to be.

Attleton's mayor has mentioned the unfortunate only access point to the items needed to make the tonic that will cure the tragic sense-depriving infection that's going around. They'd thought the disease was gone, so they hadn't bothered to maintain the area, but the wells are Happy Heights are the only place that's still going down to the aquifer. They could drill down but-- well, they don't have time for that before the disease really sets into permanence! The number of freak incidences and the decrepit state of the theme park will make it difficult to maneuver, but they've notified the electric company to turn the power on so that people can navigate their way through the park in order to gather the ingredients to make the cure.

Unfortunately, since it's been so long since the park's been opened, rain water and nature have all but wiped the park's map into illegibility. You're on your own for exploration and it's time to find at least four wells from different parts of the park. There are many, but none are a walk in the park to get to! They used to be part of a collection game kids could play when they came into the park.

The mayor warns everyone that the cure is incredibly sensitive to sunlight and oxygenation from the atmosphere- by the time a person can get four, the first extracted water will have their bioluminescence diminished. (And going to that park in the dark... it's too dangerous, he wouldn't recommend it!) It probably won't make it out of the park, so drink it right away! Good luck!

OOC NOTES: There will be different areas listed for different flowers that have soaked into the wishing wells' aquifer. Each area will have a couple of different scenarios you can play out- you're responsible for playing them out and you're welcome to have a blast with whatever you want to do! If you don't want to play it out but you did play sensory deprivation, feel free to handwave your character getting a cure, but remember: If you manage to have at least four different threads with 10 comments from your character, your character will receive an Attleton Charm ICly and for 'exceptionally valiant efforts' in eliminating the disease. (3 month prize claim limit puts this prize available until Dec. 21st.) To claim a charm, click here. Good luck!

Don't forget: If your character tampers with any of the things that are set up to get access to wells except when stated, the ride may explode or collapse, cutting off the well. Pretty unstable park, you know.

If your character wants to explore more of the park than where the wells are, they're more than welcome to. Feel free to make your own thread if you just want to have your character playing on any rides or doing things that they want- get creative, have fun, but the only areas with wells are those listed.

"We try to find the center and hope there's a well there and not a Minotaur, or a bunch of malevolent spirits," Alleyana had studied some obscure stuff during her time in the Inquisition. "...Oh, and we try not to get lost and starve to death. That's important, too."

- We shouldn't starve! - Cole pointed up at the candy, as grimy as the rest of the park. Helpful. Despite Alley's well placed caution, he was pleased, and started down a random path. This wasn't near as dangerous as about anything else they'd done. They'd be fine right?

"I doubt that's real candy," Alleyana followed, amused at Cole's enthusiasm. She rarely followed one of her party members; usually it was the other way around. Not that she minded, it was actually a little novel. "It should have melted in the rain, by now."

Surely it rained here.

"Oh." Cole didn't need to write that down for it to be understood. He hoped it was real candy. It's not like he needed to eat but this was neat! He could feel the happiness of children that walked through and asked their parents to lift them up to taste it. And their disappointment when it didn't happen. Happiness again when a tired parent offered to get them candy once they were done. That was nice.

He walked up to one of the 'walls' and pressed his hands against the stems of the giant lollipops. How were they going to get to the well?

Alley caught up to the spirit and paused, wondering what he was thinking. Usually he spoke his thoughts so freely it was almost like the mind-reading he did went both ways. Being deaf like this severed that little connection... at least in one direction.

Cole would love to share his thoughts as freely as usual, but that she couldn't hear... Many times he still spoke, unless the situation was tense, but she often couldn't even see he was talking. Instead he offered the notebook again.

- I don't know where to go. Do we have time to find the center? -

"We either try, or we spend the time looking for something else that might have a well," the Inquisitor shrugged, "and since the map of this place is ruined, we may as well give this a shot."

Cole frowned and darted down another path, only to meet a dead end a few yards in. He ran back out and looked around. He tried to pick up a path from the memories left behind but there were too many and few of them focused enough to even get a clear image from. Mmm...

"Why do we always have to go through the mazes? You know I hate them. They're fun, you always have a good time, come on. Hrmph." Cole tried to speak less while Alley couldn't hear him, but some things just slipped out. That wasn't helpful. He headed off towards another turn.

Alleyana followed him at a trot, armor jingling and clanking like it had all across Thedas during their missions away from Skyhold. "Try not to ditch me," she half-shouted, still unable to modulate her volume. Her voice was definitely degrading again. "Unless we're going to do this at a run."

Cole paused and looked around.

"Oh sorry," he said, bowing his head briefly to clarify what he meant. His pace slowed as he wondered about. A long of frustration that way, a dead end? That way... Neutral. He turned right, there was no dead end so far.

"Twisting, turning, not enough air in my lungs. Breathing fast, too fast, get me out of here!" Someone didn't like mazes, it seemed. Or tight spaces. The person attached to that memory hadn't been here in many years. Pity he couldn't help them.

He kept glancing up at the candy looming overhead. It looked so inviting compared to the dark ground and dimly lit walls of lollipop stems.

"You seriously think that's candy?" Alleyana asked about the glancing, not hiding her amusement. As usual, it was at his antics, and not at him himself. "I wonder how old it is." Whatever it was.

"It could be," Cole muttered before he wrote quickly: - Yes -

He looked up again, considering something. It wasn't what you were supposed to do, but that didn't matter!

- What if I climb up there? I could see what it is! -

- I could see where we need to go too. -

Assorted members of the Inquisition would have been beside themselves with horror at the idea that came to Alley's mind. Especially Vivienne.

The Inquisitor knelt down and gestured at her maile-covered shoulders. "Climb on, then. Just... mind the shield." It was quite spiky.

Cole, on the other hand, thought it was a fantastic idea! He should have thought of it. No matter, he could try this now. Surely he could get to the top this way. And see if the candy was real on the way. That part was important.

Very carefully- for her sake, not his- he climbed onto her shoulders, having to brace his hands against the 'wall' to keep from falling off.

Alley put her one hand over Cole's accompanying foot and glanced up to make sure he was braced. Then, very slowly, she stood up.

It wasn't like she was very tall, being an elf and all, but it was still a definite boost upward!

Cole wobbled but managed to keep in place as he was lifted up. Huh. This was fun, he felt very tall. It's like that one time the Iron Bull had picked him up by his arms to remove him from the room. That was fun but the Iron Bull wasn't very happy at the time.

He was high enough to reach up and grab the top of the wall. If he could get up, he could enough of the labyrinth to get them around. But first he had to test the lollipops.

He licked one. It tasted like dirt. He grimaced, deeply disappointed.

[personal profile] inquisitor_lavellan 2016-09-23 09:01 am (UTC)(link)
"Did you seriously just lick that?" Alleyana laughed -- not her mean, sharp laugh, but the much rarer, softer one.

Cole pouted and heaved himself up onto the top of the lollipop he'd just licked. He was curious! The laugh wasn't held against Alley, he was happy if anything he did got her to laugh like that. On top of the giant bit of grimy candy, he waved down at her. Then he pulled out his notebook.

After several minutes of scribbling, he carefully slid down. It was far easier getting down than up, it didn't even hurt to land from that far up. Rogues.

He offered the crudely drawn map to her. There was a small, crooked smiley face in the corner.

Alley took the map in her one hand and eyed it a moment. "Good work. Let's go this way," and off she went at a trot.

It wouldn't take them very long to reach this well.
