[Log/Backdated] THIS IS NOT HOW BIRTHDAYS WORK!

[koishi_komeiji]

Who: Koishi, Luke, Satuki, and a few others.
What: Koishi had another birthday. She's giving people presents.
Where: Different places.
When: May 14th
Warnings: None really. Mostly just excessive cute.
Note: Feel free to react. Depending on the situation there may or may not be a response.

Whelp. It was another birthday come and gone. Which meant Koishi was now 416 years old. This meant that people were going to be given presents. Again. Because birthdays involved presents, right? Yes, she was the one who was supposed to be GETTING the presents. But still!


Regardless, her first stop was her sister. Koishi, with a great deal of help, had managed to purchase those computer things as well as a general how-to book so Satori could learn to use it. It wasn't a very advanced or expensive one, but it was certainly good enough to look up cat videos, write on, and manage the plethora of music that her older sister had been collecting during the time she's been here. Likewise she also bought quite a bit of music to go with it. Koishi ended up having to wrap multiple presents. All of them in brown paper and tied down with twine and tape.

For Satsuki she got her hands on an antique Koto. Someone (not likely Koishi) had taken the time to ensure that it was in proper tune and the strings on it were new. Koishi actually carried it up to the door of Satsuki's flat this time rather than go through the window due to the Koto's size and the fact she didn't want it to bump or get stuck in the window fame. Additionally, she also brought rose tea and rose flavored taffy made from the petals of the blossoms that grow in Chireiden's gardens.

Additionally, Koishi seemed more amused than she should be by the prospect of "hell rose tea" but that may or may not just be Koishi being Koishi again.

Luke was brought a box containing a new flying pin and a whole bunch of goodies. He got some of the rose tea and taffy too and a book of word puzzles and riddles. But first Luke would have to unlock the puzzle box she hid them in. At 20 moves it was certainly not the most simple one, but it would be fun for him to play with. The mechanism consisted of multiple sliding panels and a combination lock consisting of ornate symbols. The bottom of the box contained a riddle and several other puzzles to give him hints as to where the mechanisms were, what order to do them in, and how to unlock them.

She also brought him lunch.

Blake was brought a wide-brimmed black hat with a stylish white stripe. She was also given a book containing multiple recipes for a variety of fish dishes. Each was hand written and a few of them had drawings to help along with the more intricate steps. The script was elegant and it was likely that Satori was the one that had done the writing and not Koishi.

Mewtwo would get a variety of things including several mats, a small table, an umbrella, and a cushioned armchair that seemed to be modified so that he could sit in it comfortably. It was also purple. Because he was purple. Additionally he was given an enormous stack of books. Novels. Many of them were a little beat-up suggesting Koishi had bought them at a used store. But she had no idea what sorts of things Mewtwo liked book wise, so at the very least he had a variety of things to keep him entertained.

Ted was given a basket containing a variety of cheeses and a large book containing a how-to for a variety of largely harmless (but likely very annoying) pranks and magic tricks. These ranged from card tricks to slight of hand to different uses for disappearing ink to a variety of ways to soak people with water. Clearly, nothing bad could ever come of this.

Alice would be given some lovely new fabrics taken from Nova City. Ones that had the technology to change color on command and self repair small rips and holes over time. There was a good bit of it too some textured more like cotton, some more like silk.

Namur was given several coconut crabs. Alive. In a crate. Additionally, Koishi brought him some unagi, the freshwater eel carefully prepared and served over rice with some sort of delicious and tangy sauce. It tasted exactly like barbecue chicken, though the texture was vastly different.

Liv was brought a variety of spices in several forms to expand the types of texture present. Additionally, there was a DVD containing one of the most wonderfully terrible-in-all-the-right-ways zombie movies Koishi could find. And its equally good-bad sequel.

Mayu was given a set of bamboo calligraphy pens two bottles of black ink. Likewise he was given a book of tales and fables from classic Japanese literature. Youkai stories. Additionally he was also given the charm and note. (mentioned below)

Remilia and Flandre would be given a bottle of oni sake and a basket of fruit from Chireiden's gardens, some rose tea, and a large cake, fully decorated. You couldn't ever go wrong with cake, right? Especially one filled with strwberry filling reminiscent of the blood vampires were so fond of.

Everyone else would get a box containing four reasonably sized pieces of chocolate and well wishes. Everyone who she's had even a little bit of interaction with got something.

Additionally anyone who was hurt or killed by Koishi during the incident where she was controlled by the Kamui would be given a charm for luck and life and another note of apology.

(IMPORTANT: If I missed someone who has CR with Koishi then yell at me and I'll apologize a whole lot and add them into this post. Sometimes I lose track of people because I'm an unorganized doof.)

Koishi just pouted a little bit. "Yeah but... I'm a youkai. I don't exactly need material things. So you get a present okay Miss Bats?"

It was hard to say no to that winning smile...

Well... Remi thought Koishi would enjoy (and be distracted by) the present she got her. "But she'll accept hers.

Koishi then went to investigate her own gift, holding it by one of the holes on the sides... then the center... and-

"Wah! It spins!"

Remilia. What have you done?

[Ted? Do something bad? Perish the thought! He meets Koishi on one of his endless, aimless walks.]

Oh, thank you Koishi, and happy birthday. Goodness, has it really been a whole year since the last one?

[How time flies. When he first confessed his antipathy for subarchways and met Flowey for the first and last time. *Shudder*]

Heh, Gengar's already so good at this kind of thing, I suppose I'll have some catching up to do. Not to mention Namur's own ectype. Never met a finer Magician. But I digress. And of course the cheese is very welcome; hopefully it's the kind that gets better when it gets worse. The inorganic taking on the organic; why, the origin of life itself.

Oh! Hold on. Got something for you too. Can consider it a gift for your sister too, if you like. She might enjoy it more.

[He rummages in his bag to produce a copy of Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid.]

I'm curious to know what either of you two think of the ending. I..aheh, note certain parallels.

"Yup! A whole year!" Not that a year felt like a very long time to a youkai. "I didn't have a party this time since the number wasn't as much of a pun. So I just went and gave out presents instead."

She did pause as she was given the book though, looking down at it, eyes subtly raised. "Ohh. This is a story Sis doesn't know. I bet she would like it then. Is it dark? Is it a fable? She likes fables!" Koishi opened it, scanning down the first page in a decent amount of time.

"So, It's about mermaids?" she tilted her head, continuing on. "There's mermaids in the Misty Lake back home. No fish though. Unfortunately. I've gone looking for them. The lake is right near the devil mansion where Miss Bats and the Nice Maid live."

Phew! That saves him the awkwardness of declining the invitation if it's Old Hell again.

"A 'devil mansion', haha. Goodness, is there any place in Gensokyo that's named even a little bit wholesomely? Such ominous onomastics. I worry about that place.

Ohaha, no, not very dark. Few fairy tales are. Interesting taste for Satori, though upon reflection it's very obvious." Fables, animals. He gets it.

"Correct! One in particular. It isn't very long, but that just makes it easier to reread. And since you have so many eyes it ought to be shorter still; no more than an hour, I'd say."

"Yeah! A devil mansion that borders the misty lake! And there's also a youkai forest and a magic forest and youkai mountain... I live under youkai mountain!" She was beaming. "But I spend a lot of time at the human village too. I like to play with the children there. They can see me really easily. Or sometimes I go to the temple. That's always fun. Everyone there is really nice."

She turned the book and thumbed through it quickly. It was really quite short. Likely less than an hour's read. Even faster for her sister. But fables were always the best stories. For the sisters anyway. "Thank you Mister Spades. I bet this is a story I haven't heard. I look forward to reading it properly."

[Given that the one and only time he's met Koishi was when she was under the kamui's influence, chaos is somewhat surprised that she even remembers him - doubly so when she presents him with chocolate. He's also glad to see that she's no longer being controlled; seriously, how did Nue manage to distract him long enough for her to get away completely? The world may never know.]

[When it becomes clear to him why she's handing out gifts, he produces one of his own - a tiny, brightly-colored sphere with gossamer wings, and a bracelet. When she puts on the bracelet, the sphere will unfold into a delicate-looking mechanical fairy, which flies on its own and will generally act like a well-trained flying pet. It'll sit on her shoulder or hat, fly around her occasionally, and it even sings. He made it as a project to see just how small he could make a functional logic drive - the wings, although they do move, are just for steering.]

Koishi would look at the device, curiously. She had never seen a 'fairy' quite so small. "You made ball that turns into a flying inchling?" Close enough. It fluttered up and landed on the brim of her hat, the little youkai tilting her head up somewhat to see if she could see the little creature. She seemed aware enough to not allow it to lose balance.

"It's really cute! Thanks Mister!" She seemed absolutely elated! "Normally I tell people that I'm a youkai and so I don't really need material things... And I don't! But I've never had anything like this!"

He should probably explain what it is and what it can do...

"You're welcome. As long as you're wearing the bracelet, it will follow simple commands - verbal at first, but eventually it will learn to anticipate your orders. It's not as fragile as it looks, but it can still be broken, so be careful around things like ceiling fans and doors."

He holds up his hand, and the fairy flits over to stand on his palm, facing Koishi. "When the finished product hits the market, they'll have the ability to engage in mock battles with each other. What would you like to call her?" Sure, the thing has a development name, but the naming ritual is what binds the toy to its master's voice.

"Uhh..." Koishi watched it flutter onto Chaos' hand, tilting her head this way and that. She reached forward and poked the little winged inchling (it couldn't be anything else in her mind).

"Boo!" No, She wasn't trying to scare it. "I'm going to call her Boo!" Trying to understand Koishi's logic is futile. Don't bother trying, Chaos.

Satori would end up finding a pile of brown-paper wrapped boxes in Chireiden, and in utter perplexity, curiously examine their contents. Naturally, of course, she was a little taken aback, considering that she'd had a present prepared for the restless Koiball.

Despite her old-fashioned nature, she managed to puzzle out how this infernal machine worked, setting it up rather smoothly with the help of the manual. It'd be a little while before she got the hang of it but Satori was an awfully quick learner if she was interested. That and advanced technology was always a bit of a mystery.

Satori shrugged to herself, realizing that it was hard to stop her once she had an idea in her head. She'd have to offer Koishi's present - a large sunhat similar to her favourite "Mr.Hat" - when she caught up with her. It'd be summer soon, after all.

She didn't have to heart to tell her younger sister that she'd got things backwards. At least Koishi's heart was in the right place.

"Ohh!" Koishi accepted the hat with quite a bit of enthusiasm, removing Mister Hat and placing it on Satori's head. Though she had gotten another hat from Satsuki for Christmas, she could always use more.

This one was larger and the edges were less rigid, dipping down stylishly to help protect her ears and neck. Best of all it had the lopsided inner ring that Mister Hat shared, ensuring that her scar would remain protected.

"Oh wow! Thanks sis! I love it!" There was the hug. Practically knocking Satori over in fact. And then the tentacles came out. I hope you brought a crowbar, Satori because this is not a snuggling you'll be escaping any time soon.

[OKAY a giant floating box is not a thing you see every day, even in Everglade. When the box plops itself into his arms it's one thing, but when the box starts moving it's one wtf level too many for him to handle.] What in hell's goin' on here?

"Hello there!" Koishi popped up on the other side of the box. Because boxes don't float on their own. Shame on you for thinking that. "It's my birthday! So I brought you a present! Crabs! Really big ones! They're delicious!" How thoughtful.

Koishi then reached up to remove her hat and took a box out from under it, placing it on top. "This is unagi. Grilled freshwater lamprey eel over rice. I told you about it and now you can try it too!"

[Do not give him flipping heart attacks in Everglade, girl, what's wrong with you? Oh well, bigger fish to fry, and all that.]

Shit girl, ain't y' got that goin' the wrong way 'round? Not that I mind, jus' sayin'. Guess we'll hafta get this shit back t' hq an' have ourselves a li'l birthday feast, huh? How old're y' now?

"Hehehe. Yeah most people say that. But I'm a youkai so I don't really require material things, as nice as they can be at times." Koishi carefully put the box down, patting the top.

"And yeah! A feast!" She waved her arms. "I'm 416 years old! Which isn't that old for a youkai necessarily. But still! Everyone else celebrates a birthday so I think it would be fun to do!" She was beaming. "I mean, technically most youkai aren't even born. We manifest. But still!"

[Of all things, it's Koishi using the front door that's the most shocking. Not to downplay the gift in question but.. Wow, who would have thought? Gothitelle in particular has an incredibly shocked look on her face.

And yet Satsuki can't help but feel annoyed, and she crosses her arms while tapping her pointer finger.]

I do not mean to sound unappreciative, Koishi, but I believe we have already discussed this.

"Yeah, but I decided to ignore your advice and do it anyway!" She stepped forward, dragging the koto into the apartment. It was wrapped, but not very well. After placing it in the corner she scampered back over to Satsuki, offering her a wrapped box.

"This is for you too, okay?" God dammit Koishi.

"..."

Welp, that's.. Pretty blunt. Almost shockingly so, and once the shock wears off and she finds herself granted another gift; she raises a hand to the front of her face with a sigh.

Honestly; what is her life right now?

But there's no changing things at this point is there? Satsuki hesitantly resigns to her fate and accepts the box as she grumbles, "Thank you."

She'll open the box first then.

The box contained the above mentioned rose tea and taffy. The tea was loose-leaf and held in a very nice wooden box with a sliding lid. The taffy was held in a matching wooden jar with a more traditional wooden lid. Both smelled absolutely wonderful.

"And the big one too! The big one too!" Koishi was practically dragging it back over to Satsuki.

Face it Satsuki. When Koishi is around you're going to get loved and appreciated. No matter how you scream and struggle, there's just no way to get around it.

[ Mayu freezes when he sees Koishi. His eyes widen. He makes a conscious effort to slow his breathing. There's all sorts of emotions coming from​ him, like fear, pain, guilt and affection. He isn't over the trauma. He had trouble approaching his own brother after less. A part of him wonders if Koishi could feed off of his panic.

Once he can get his body to move, he walks over to some of his artwork. He picks up a manga chapter he created for a judo based sports manga. He submitted the name to one of the fake Tokyo publishers, but it was rejected.

He bows stiffly, and hands the manga to the birthday youkai. Talking is too much to handle. ]

Koishi is far more mellow than she usually is, actually removing her hat for this visit and remaining on the ground. It was more than a little awkward really. Normally she didn't meet people she had eaten again...

And while she could absolutely feed off of Mayu's panic... "I'm sorry." She was squeezing the edge of her hat. "Please don't be scared of me Mister. I don't like it when my friends are scared of me." She lowered her gaze a little, her eyes quite dim. "I mean... Satori are scary youkai but I wasn't really even being a satori. So I'm really sorry, okay?"

If only he could stop being scared, but human emotions don't work that way. It's taking a lot of self control not to faint, or run away, or curl into a fetal position under the table.

Mayu nods. His throat feels too constricted to speak. He knows Koishi didn't mean to harm him. He knows she's sacrificed a lot just to befriend humans. None of his knowledge changes how he feels.

Mayu gets a sketchbook and marker. He writes on it in large letters and shows it to Koishi.
