Action: Fairy Haven, Master's Quarters - Open to any member of Fairy Tail or anyone who lives in Fayren Haven
{ It would be quiet; barely audible, depending on where one was in the sprawling compound that Fairy Tail calls home. It was unmistakably Zeref's voice, but there could be none other heard. It might sound as if he were just... talking to himself. }
I almost gave this to them, you know. I was curious to know what they would have done with it.
{ There's the sound of rustling. Zeref sounded slightly sleepy, if one bothered to listen, as if he had only just woken up despite it being the middle of the afternoon. Maybe he was up late? }
What would they have done? Destroyed it? Opened it? They would have been in for a surprise if they had.
{ Whoever he's speaking to doesn't respond. If one bothers to peek into the room... he's speaking to a book laying on a desk parallel to the bed, propped up against the wall. Completely seriously, as if the book were alive and he was somehow expecting it to respond.
Suddenly, Zeref sighs, reaching for the white, outer-layer of his robe, unceremoniously discarded at the foot of the bed. He pulls it on, over the rest of his outfit. }
Why do I bother? I doubt you can hear me, anymore. I wonder if you're even alive in our world without this.
Text - OTA
I'd like to pose a rhetorical question, if I may. Much has been made about the issue of necromancy, in this world. The act of reanimating the dead into 'undead,' as the term I've been hearing up until now.
What I've heard little about is resurrection. Not merely reanimating the dead; restoring life itself. Reversing death. Bringing a soul back from the afterlife and returning it to this world. In my world, it is taboo, regardless of the circumstances or how unfair or undeserved the death was.
Death is ultimately meaningless in this world, at least for those of us with amulets. When one of us dies, we reawaken in the Bay, even if doing so often has a price. Regardless, I've heard some of us say that impermanent death cheapens it.
Why this distinction? What difference is there, truly, between necromancers, and whomever, or whatever it was that brought us here reducing death to a mere transaction?

But what Erza asked him genuinely surprised him. Sure, he'd had coffee with Lucy once, but that wasn't exactly a casual encounter, either; Mavis had been present, and Lucy had joined them for the sole purpose of interrogating Zeref about her family, specifically Layla. He still doesn't know how she learned about his connection to the Heartfilias, and he highly doubted Layla herself told her. }
Well, I am feeling a bit hungry... { Mavis was trying to get them to bond, now? He sighs. Sure, he mostly got along with Wendy and Levy while they were here - unlike Erza, Gray, Natsu, and arguably Lucy, they never really had anything personal against him - but that was because Levy's curiosity seemed to ultimately outweigh her initial fear of him, and Wendy is, well, Wendy. Erza had every reason to be wary of him, if not hate him outright.
But if they were really going to be living together... }
Alright, then. { He gets to his feet, and moves past their table. Their Lejenca game was still ongoing, and the scoreboard had Mavis ahead, but only by one. She was getting really good at that game, now; he went easy on her the first time they played, something he quickly regretted, and hasn't done so again. He leaves the room, and closes the door behind him. } It isn't as if I have anything better to do, I guess.
{ It's a good thing nobody from Alvarez was here. He'd never hear the end of it. }
Action
Hopefully you like strawberry cheesecake - work's been going well, so I got a bit more than normal. [It's unclear what part of that is an exaggeration - the "bit more" part, or what she considers a normal amount. Either way, boxes of cheesecake are piled on a table in the guild hall, enough for a whole group of people.
Erza may be uncertain about how all of this is going to go, but at the very least, she hopes to
interrogateask Zeref about his own life, the Spriggan Twelve, and things of that nature.]Action
I don't mind it-- { By the gods. All of that is for...? Fairy Tail better have dental insurance. } Do me a favor. If Brandish shows up, do not tell her you have all of this.
{ There. Free trivia about one of the Spriggan Twelve: You're not the only one who lives on an almost all-sugar diet. }
Action
[Grabbing a plate and exquipping a highly decorated knife and fork (of course she has that in her inventory), Erza opens up a box and cuts out a piece.] Help yourself. Though make sure you finish what you start - there are few greater crimes than letting a dessert such as this go to waste. [It might seem like she's joking, but her facial expression is one of utmost seriousness.]
Action
because Mashima probably forgot they were an illusionthrough the torturous process of having Fairy Heart extracted from her and through Invel's Ice Lock, so maybe it shouldn't be that surprising.He reaches over, and cuts a smaller piece for himself. Cake is apparently serious business to Erza, and it probably took a lot to get Mavis to convince her to share it with him -
note to self, thank Mavis for this later - and he's hungry enough to definitely finish what he starts, here. He takes a bite, and... it's surprisingly good. }
Where did you buy these?
Action
Pan's Grocery has cakes as well - they aren't as expensive, but they also lack the sort of care and attention you'd expect from a handmade cake.
[Everything is serious business to Erza, but cake easily tops that list - she could easily go on and on about it if someone gives her the opportunity.]
Action
{ As in, Mavis dragged him there, but he'd be lying if he had said he didn't enjoy it. He takes another bite, and then glances at the clock on his device. Mavis had been gone a while, but he wasn't worried. She was more than capable of taking care of herself. He was just wondering what kind of errand it even was, to take so long. }
I didn't used to eat things like this, at least not very often. About the only occasion I ever could was when I had to return to Alvarez for whatever reason. Usually, my diet consisted of whatever I could find to cook over a campfire.
{ A skill you pretty much have to learn if you spend as much time as he did just... wandering around. And thankfully, the curse doesn't spoil meat. }
It's... been quite a change, being in this world. Not an unwelcome one, of course, but a change nonetheless.
Action
Oh, that reminds me - what sort of desserts do you have in Alvarez? Do you get to have Star Mangoes all the time? [She only got to try one, but it was delicious!]
Action
That's... { How much time does she have? } Alvarez spans an entire continent, with a population size to match. It may be united under one banner, but there are at least as many cultural differences there as you have in all of Ishgal, cuisine included. The star mangoes are more common in the coastal regions, though, and the islands in the southeast. You can find almost anything in Vistarion, though with any metropolitan area, just avoid the tourist traps.
{ Gods, listen to me, I sound like a tour guide he thinks to himself. What is Mavis doing to him? }
A fair amount of Alvarez's citizens aren't even human, though Machias don't cook. At least, that I've seen.
Action
Hopefully I'll get a chance to try them all some day - I can't imagine the amount of sweets that I'm missing out on! [Sure, she's not likely to be taking another trip to Alvarez in the near future, but maybe some people from Alvarez could immigrate to Ishgar when the war's over? She's certainly optimistic when it comes to sugary food.]
[Setting her first box aside, she moves on to the second.] Gray and Mira mentioned the Machias, I think. Are they common in Alvarez? [There certainly aren't any in Ishgar, though it would undoubtedly be a huge help to a more tech-savvy guild like Blue Pegasus if there were.]
Action;; bit of headcanon here...
{ He's referring to his 'vacation' on Tenroujima, there. }
Machias are a species of sentient machines animated by magic. One of the Spriggan Twelve, Wahl, was their contribution to the war effort, along with their technology that was built into our airships. Compared to humans, they're a minority, and they tend to keep to what used to be their country before it was annexed into the Empire and they prefer to stay out of imperial politics. But almost all of them were built to be able to use magic. They're a fascinating species, really.
Action
I see... It's kind of hard for me to imagine an entire society like that, but I guess Alvarez probably doesn't have Exceeds, so it would be somewhat similar for you and them.
((OoC: No worries as far as headcanon goes - I figure we all do that with some aspects of our characters or the setting.))
Action
{ Not counting Acnologia, of course. Gods save any exceed unlucky enough to cross his path. }
Action
It's not just them, though. Ichiya has an Exceed friend, and he's certainly not a Dragon Slayer.
Action
{ He takes another bite of the cake. It's been too long since he's had something like this. Maybe he and Mavis will have to go back, later. }
It does seem odd that that's whom the Exceeds gravitated towards. But then again, that's hardly the strangest coincidence I've observed in regard to the Dragon Slayers. Maybe I should stop overthinking it.
Action
Cobra also had a winged snake as a partner. Kind of odd that Laxus never got anything like that, but maybe that's just not his style.
Action
If you're curious, neither did God Serena, or Eileen to my knowledge. { Another bite of the cake. His is almost gone. } If there are any others out there, I don't know about them. But, I guess it's possible that there are more Dragon Lacrima that are unaccounted for out there, somewhere.
Action
I figured we would have heard of them if there were more, but not even the Wizard Saints knew that Serena had Dragon Slayer magic until the war. [If they had, then Makarov would have undoubtedly told the members of Fairy Tail that before the fighting started.]
I'm surprised that those Lacrima aren't more common, though it's probably for the best. [Putting the power of a Dragon Slayer in the hands of anyone who could pay enough seems like a recipe for disaster, even if there's seemingly no risk of the user turning into a dragon.]
Action
If they were, Acnologia would have razed a lot more cities to the ground than he has already.
Action
[She shudders a little, picturing that happening. From what she's seen of Acnologia, it seems like that wouldn't take much effort on his part] I hadn't thought about that part of it, but it certainly sounds right.
Action
Don't underestimate his bloodlust. I said once before that I found his motivations depressingly shallow. Destruction for destruction's sake. The only reason he hadn't made his move sooner is that, were he to succeed, he'd spend the rest of his life even more bored than he already is.
But as we've discovered, it doesn't take much to get him to attempt to at least partially whet his appetite for carnage.
Action
He can't be unstoppable, though. Does Eileen get sick when she's on transportation? Maybe if we put Acnologia on a train... [No, that would be too crazy to work.]
Action
{ A sigh. }
I don't know. She wasn't on my ship. She was with Larcade and Bloodman, and their armies were sailing to the northern coast of Fiore. Whenever I did give her an assignment, she's always been the type to make her own accommodations.
And there isn't a prison, mobile or otherwise, that can hold him. Even if there was, the act of putting him in it would cost hundred, perhaps thousands of lives, and almost certainly wouldn't even be successful.
Action
Still, there has to be a way to stop him. I'm sure that you and the First could come up with something, given time. [She's 100% confident in Mavis, and she figures that Zeref knows Acnologia's capabilities better than anyone.]
Action
There... is something we have been working on in the case he were to appear here, but... { Maybe the idea that he can't kill anybody permanently would be a deterrent. Oh, who is he kidding? That just means he'll never get bored, and this world not only has its own dragons (and dragons from other worlds), but people with forms of magic he's never even heard of. This would be heaven to Acnologia. } We haven't tested it, and it would be too dangerous to test anywhere but the most controlled of environments. I would elaborate, but Mavis wanted to be the one to share it with you, first.
