Forward Dated 30th July: Sonico's Anniversary

*Sonico is smiling and waving in a friendly way at the camera. There's a large wild cat sat purring happily on her lap, but he seems pretty sleepy, only occasionally lifting its head towards the device*

Hello, everyone! I hope everyone is having a lovely day. I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you. I have been a part of this world for a year now and...I was quite lonely and scared when I first arrived. But now, I have such a wonderful group of friends and I am very happy here. So thank you, everyone, for being so welcoming and supportive. It means a lot.

Tonight, I'll be singing down at Hangar Queen. If you want a drink, just put it on my tab! 

[Action - Hangar Queen]

*There she is, on the stage, doing her thing. In full military outfit, Sonico is giving a very energetic and upbeat performance tonight. There are smiles and thanks between the songs. When she is done, there's time for mingling and chatting and some drinking too*

[Action - Closed to Mobius]

*At the end of the evening, it was time to go home. Sonico would finally have to change from her military uniform and back into her standard casual clothes, and then she'll go and find Mobius to see if he'd accompany her home. She scans the room for him first, because if he's busy and looks like he's having a good time she won't want to grab him away*

*Sonico greets Mariko with a smile, and touches her glass with her bottle of water with a small laugh*

Thank you so much. I'm looking forward to relaxing and hearing you perform too!

*She takes a long drink and nods in agreement, an apology in her eyes*

It has. I'm sorry. I've been well, but quite busy. How are you?

Likewise.

[ Mariko shrugs ]

Nothing fun's been really going on. Just been trying to put myself out there in the music scene. Training at the Holodeck, bounty hunting, found a new place to live, and performed at that charity concert at Nova City. You know the one with Weiss singing? Yeah, that's pretty much it that's noteworthy on my end. I live a life of excitement.

[ Mariko almost never tells anyone about her side-hobby doing dangerous things. Her bounty hunts tend to end in a firefight, especially in Nova City. But she mentions it all casually and made it vague enough to not sound like she's actively trying to kill herself. ]

Nothing's been going on?

*Sonico smiles kindly after Mariko lists all those various things she has been doing*

That sounds like a lot of exciting things!

*The bounty hunting part was a surprise to her, and caused her to reply in a more maternal manner*

I hope you have been keeping yourself safe when you have been bounty hunting...

Hey, I'm here without a scratch on me. I know.

[ Mariko scoffs, slightly amused but appreciative of Sonico's concern ]

This isn't my first rodeo. Been in a lot of tussles even before I got here. Fighting is just normal for me now.

*Sonico blinks and glances away for a moment, hoping that she hadn't offended Mariko somehow*

Oh... Well, then. That's good. It's good that you know how to look after yourself.

*Something that Sonico still sorely wished she could do. But never mind*

Are you more comfortable living here now?

[ Mariko shrugs, smirking briefly before sipping some soda through a fancy swirly straw ]

Yeah, been feelin' pretty good about everything in this place. I get to do what I want, and the number of people giving me coursework is down to 0.

[ Mariko takes another sip ]

But I guess I can only say that because there's two subarchways to cities I know a lot from back home. So there's someplace for me to run away to whenever I feel homesick...

*Sonico smiles and nods, understanding how freeing it is not to have coursework, though she still spends a good amount of time in the library. Her eyes light up at mention of the subarchways*

Oh, me too! I really had no idea that Tokyo was so close! I went with some friends for a visit and it was just...nice to be back for a little while.

[majestiq]

Hah, I bet. Who did you go with?

[ Mariko orders another glass of soda ]

Grew up and spent most of my life there. Even if there's a huge glaring difference in that subarchway to the Tokyo I know, it still feels like home. Probably better, honestly.

With Ayame and Aya, and Kaytoo. He had never been to Tokyo before, so it was a lot of fun.

*Sonico smiles in happy surprise to hear that Mariko is from the same place*

Oh, really? Wow! There are so many of us. For me...it was very like the Tokyo I know. But I like the comfort of knowing I can visit whenever I like.

[majestiq]

Yeah? That's good. When I first got here, I honestly thought about just staying there and never leaving.

[ Mariko shrugs ]

But I just can't help but be curious about this place. Then I saw Nova City and I'm like.. Tokyo can't even compare.

*Sonico looks at Mariko carefully, upset to hear that she had been so unhappy at Genessia. But then, many people were*

Nova City is something quite different, isn't it? Are you...happier here now?

[majestiq]

I wouldn't say I'm "happier" here. I mean, it's still not my home and I don't have anyone else here from the same world as me... but I'm happy enough to make do.

[ Mariko nods, looking at her fresh tall glass of soda. For a moment she reminisces on the people she cares about that she left behind back home. Her friends, family, and even her pets and the people she enjoys hating on. It's just not complete without them, but at least she wasn't transported in a world of perpetual stress. ]

*Sonico nods - she understands what it's like not to know anyone here from home. Then she smiles slightly at Mariko's willingness to make do*

Well...that's something. Somehow I've managed to make new friends, and they're really important. I think I'd be lost here without them...
