[Disorientation was not unknown to Fenris. He’d experienced it several times in his past, but never quite in such a way. Uncertain what the pamphlet suggested aside from images of the device included in the box, he grumbled and shoved the pamphlet, the red papers included, along with the phone, into a pouch at his waist and strode through the water without hesitation. He’d faced demons and worse before, and while he was alone, he certainly wasn’t going to allow the weakness of fear show, and the spiked armor and large sword lashed to his back went a long way to help the image along.

When he approached the stand on which Weiss’ Transmission played, he glared at it but did not balk. Magic, then. Of course. He’d never heard of this Genessia, but at least the necklace was familiar. So, their kidnappers have pretty chains, then. It didn’t change what they were and he grimaced at the thought. This was all a grand deception, to be sure, even for a former slave as valuable as himself, so he had no reason to doubt the image witch’s integrity.

Still, as much as it pained him to do so, he needed more information than her repeating message supplied. Surely he wasn’t alone in this place, for this witch would not have seen fit to spend the energy to place this message here for only his benefit, and so he took up a spot leaning against the side of the map booth and would address anyone who happened past.]

You, there. I...require assistance, if you've the mind.

[He’ll not force anyone, but manners aren’t exactly his forte.]

Ah, sorry, of course.

[He clears his throat, offering his hand for a shake. It would feel callous and a little rough; the hands of a fencer.]

"I'm Ted; pleasure to make your acquaintance."

[Fenris has no joy. A bit overdramatic, but he can be a downer. His eyes, emerald green like actual gems, far more green than any human tone, follow the motion of his hand, and he hesitates before taking Ted's in one of his own. Clad in a spiked gauntlet, he didn't feel anything telling about Ted's hand.]

Fenris.

[He didn't keep his grip overlong, but dropping it quickly.]

My...thanks for stopping. [He doesn't know if this meeting is a pleasure yet or not.] I assume you can read.

[A grim warrior type, judging by the gauntlet. He's encountered a few of those.]

Fenris, eh? Don't suppose you were raised by a pack of wolves, by chance?

[He loves his names.]

Oh, you're very welcome. Yes, that's a safe assumption. Some say I do entirely too much of that. Do you? Any favorite works in particular?

[His gaze hardened, eyes narrowing slightly, at the best, and his lip turned up in a sneer.]

No. It's what my former master called me, his "little wolf". I don't remember my true name.

[And he releases a breath is a quiet growl of annoyance.]

Slaves aren't taught to read. I didn't stop you for a pleasant chat. [He holds out his other hand, the one in which he's still holding the pamphlet he arrived with.]

What is this telling me? Some of the pages refer to this glowing glass I was given, the images are identical.

[Ted makes a mental note to never, ever introduce Fenris and Dorian, else there might be words.]

"Oh, um, I'm sorry to hear that..."

[A phrase he says a lot these days. Why does Genessia pick so many with such painful lives? Why is the world so morbid? There must be something about them it prizes; God knows what. He scans the pamphlet quickly, then thinks how best to summarize.]

"...Ah, it simply explains what all your new possessions are for. The key is for some dingy apartments near here; good if you're used to rough living, if a little transient. The necklace is important to wear always; marks you for one ensouled, and let's you travel between the corners of the earth. The phone is the most complicated of all, and for that...well, 'learn by doing.' I can show you by hand, if you like."

[Words? No. Fenris usually greets Tevinter Magisters by ripping their hearts out.]

[There was so much venom in that three-word response it was possibly deadly in its own right, but he listens to Ted's explanation without interrupting.

He eyes the necklace with doubt. He's seen plenty of pretty chains and collars to know what it really is, and at Ted's offer he nods.]

I'd appreciate it.

And kind of you to say so.

[Even the most obvious malice can miss its mark in the yawning abyss of his cheery oblivion.]

[So goes the loving, patient tutorial on all things phone related. Audio, video, private, public, text--well, not that one. How to ping your location, how to search others' posting histories, etc. Look, there's even this handy-dandy button you can press whenever you get in trouble; will bring the Guardians right to you. Not that they're terribly reliable, but you never know. This will go on for as long as Fenrir has the patience.]

...oh! Goodness, I forgot all about traffic rules! Glad you're not roadkill quite yet.

[Hope he has the stamina for another round.]

[If he was annoyed his sarcasm was lost of Ted, he didn't show it. His large emerald eyes watched Ted's instruction attentively, watching Ted's motions with the phone and committing them to memory.

He blinks when Ted changes subjects.]

"Certainly. You didn't notice those..."

[Ted tries to think of a description of cars without relying solely on the word.]

"...er, long, metal, horseless carriages? Such massive, swift things invite doom for those who don't heed the tapestry of rules we've made to tame them. For starters, there's..."

[So he launches into yet more teaching time. Luckily the shape and color of the signs is good enough to remember their function without explicit attention to the words. And he can't forget about crosswalks, changing lights, etc.]

"...and that, I think, should be enough to go by. Say, I've never done it before, but if you ever wanted to, ah, learn literacy, I wouldn't mind teaching. Some say I'm, aheh, over-read, so perhaps channeling that excess into your dearth might do some good."

[He takes note of the instructions regarding the flow of traffic as well before nodding.]

I'll keep it in mind. [He doesn't know about trusting this strange human, or about spending that much time with him just yet.] My thanks for the information.

[No commitments! That's a little disappointing; learning someone, especially an older someone, how to read would've been a delightful novelty. On the other hand, that does keep his hours free for the future.]
