At the risk of becoming public enemy number one because of a bunch of close-minded fools who think they know what is right, I'd like to offer my services to anyone who would like to practice combat against the empty spirits from outside the barrier.

I killed four types during the last breach and am now able to summon them to my side. Anyone interested in learning to protect themselves in the unfortunately event of a future breach should contact me. I won't be holding it in a set location lest some of the idiots decide to stage a protest over something that's literally a part of my soul to be able to do.

[ It's something small, but she'd rather show that it's a useful skill and not some abomination. It'll also help her practice her summoning. And this is definitely something her father won't want to get involved with either, she's sure, especially since she's identified it as controversial. ]

Should I take it that they don't die via copious application of fire like the usual ones? I seem to have missed the last attack - for once - and I do like knowing how to kill anything that might decide to attack me.

We have specialized weapons that have previously captured spirits bound to them in order to fight them. Normal means of fighting them will disperse them, but they come back after only a few moments so the numbers don't decrease unless there's spiritual magic involved.

[ She shakes her head. Dorian told her a little about blood magic and his life and she's certainly not a fan of it, though she's sure there are cases it could be properly applied- she's just not going to. ] In my world, the soul is capable of being beared forward as an aura. Aura can be used for defense and offense, and if honed, can manifest as a semblance, or a unique ability that only the person with that soul can utilize. On rare occasions, genetic repetition occurs [ like her sister has the same as she does, but the rest of her family doesn't seem to have it ] Mine are my glyphs, which after having honed them allows me to perform feats like creating platforms, time dilation, minor gravitational manipulation, and summoning enemies that have fallen at my hands. [ There are others too but she wants to keep it an incomplete list. ]

It is. The more people know how to defend themselves the more likely we all are to get through the next breach without casualties. And now that I'm essentially unemployed except for volunteer work for the moment, I have plenty of time to help prepare others. Since you're new I'll go over the particulars of what we know, too, so you can be prepared instead of just fighting first.

...Anou...how often do breaches happen?

Not terribly often. We've only had three total, one before I got here, but they're relatively devastating when they do. The last one was the best we've done, since we were more prepared and the breach was in the center, so we were able to keep the cities safe. [ A beat. ] Most of them. The City Guardian of Fayren had disappeared shortly before the breach, so there was no real organized system to keep them out of Fayren. But everyone else I think did fairly well of keeping them at Bay, and eventually the source of the breach was addressed.

Some people have a serious problem with necromancy. When Ted was Guardian he flat-out outlawed it in Everglade of all places, and started this whole thing and keeps claiming it's evil. Other people keep chiming in with comments about it being something no one should ever use, other worlds have flat-out discrimination toward it, and Qubine flat out called all uses of it disrespectful. Needless to say there's been a lot of argument about it and I'm sick of being told something that's a part of me is something I should be ashamed of.

I don’t get why someone would be against you for being able to do that - seems pretty handy to me so long as they stay on our side. In any case, just tell me where to be and when. I’m more of a sharpshooter than a summoner, but it can’t hurt to learn more about them.

The point is for me to summon though, and everyone else to learn how to kill them. I can put together a schedule that won't be too exhausting to help a bunch of people so we're all more prepared for next time.

I can summon anything I've personally slain. They have a problem with necromancy in any form and never have any actual reasons besides that it's against their religion or an abomination or disrespectful or occasionally just evil. They don't seem to have any understanding that if it's used for good, that's different than the people who use it for bad. Just like everything else in the universe.

That said, I intend to stop arguing with them and just show everyone how it can be used positively and if they have a problem with it, they can go whine about it online like every other person who has no say in the matter.

I'm interested to see if some weapons I bought for that purpose work as advertised, so I'd be willing to try. I've heard about the spirits outside of the barrier, but I didn't know people could summon them.

You bought weapons for that? Who was selling them? You literally have to capture a spirit with spiritual magic and bind it to the weapon, there's a reason David and I put a distribution system in place. They're not easy to make and they're incredibly dangerous to have because they drain your emotions while you use them.

It's Weiss, and if I had pointers I probably wouldn't have been here for three and a half years. If it helps any, as far as anyone can tell, time doesn't seem to pass in our home worlds while we're here so you won't miss anything.

Well I'd be up for training against them. A friend of mine might be too; we have some fairly unique weapons, and it'd be nice to see how they'd do against them before using them becomes imperative.

Might want to talk to the folks at the research institute too; they'd probably be interested in a chance to study the things.

One of the key parts of training against them is making sure they don't touch you, so it's very important to train ahead of time. You and your friend should certainly come by, and we'll take a look at your weapons to see if we have any equivalents in the arsenal. The problem with regular weapons is that they can clear them, but they respawn shortly after if you don't fight them with something with spiritual power.
