19th Aura | Video

[Jaune seems to have exhaled a deep breath just prior to beginning the video. For once, he's not in the Guardian Skyrise, but his apartment. He doesn't know or particularly care what happened to his office, seeing as he quit with no notice. Biting his lip and twisting his hands nervously, it's clearly awkward for him, but he looks cleaner than he did. Healthier.]

I heard the world exploded or something again while I was gone. And Emerald's famous now, making the world exploding less of a shock. So I guess I'm just going to ask if I missed anything important and say hi to all the new arrivals.

Hi all the new arrivals. I'm Jaune.

[A forced shrug of his shoulders, he leans back a little as if to get away from the camera.]

I found another job, one I think that's going to work out. But there are some obstacles-- like officially learning how to drive. [Look he can drive/fly just fine but he's put off taking any tests so he's been driving without a license when he's needed to.]

I don't know as much stuff as some people who've been in Genessia, but I've been here a while and I've read everything the GSRF has about what they've found out. I don't necessarily understand everything, I'm not a scientist, but if you ever have any questions, I'll try to answer them as best as I can in...less scienc-y terms.

[After agonizing whether to visit or message Weiss, seeming to come to a decision before retracting it just as quickly, he decides messaging her is the best and least intrusive option. He's a lot quieter in this video, considering their last conversation. But there's still some anxious warmth in his voice, like he's trying to make this as normal as possible but he knows he can't.]

Hey so I heard you're public enemy number one now.

Learning how to drive, huh? How do you feel about motorcycles?

[She COULD handle a car, but psh, why bother? Motorcyles are way cooler.]

...Oh yeah. Hi!

What kind of job?

[ He looks thoughtful for a moment, hesitant if he should bring it up, but... Yeah, he's definitely going to bring it up. ]

I was surprised to hear you quit as Deputy.

Yang! [His eyes round in surprise and excitement. Yang was finally back!

And did she just imply that he should drive a motorcycle? Yang, the only legitimately cool person from Remnant besides Flynt because Neptune had turned out to be a fraud?]

You're back! When did you get back? Motorcycles are cool and after I crashed Weiss's car because I was inside her body-- I mean she was inside mine too, but a change of pace might be good.

Something where I can protect people without having to fight.

[Not fight in the traditional sense, anyway. His eyes darken but he forces himself to smile faintly.]

I can't stand with people I don't trust. [He might trust Garrus, but Mercury and especially Jacques as the mayor? Hell no.] And now I can do the same thing without all the red tape or paperwork, but I needed to step back. Have you ever done something you thought was right and then regretted?

About a week ago, not long. Oh! And you should probably know I'm the Yang who showed up before the two other Yangs.

[So whatever his interactions might have been with her other counterparts, she doesn't know or remember.]

[She grins at his explanation, hitching her shoulders.]

Yeah, Weiss did mention something about that. You...switched bodies?

[At least Yang hopes that's what he's trying to say, albeit as awkwardly as possible.]

Anyway, if you're up for it, I can teach you to ride a bike. The motorcycle I fixed up when I was here before doesn't seem to be around anymore so I'll have to scrounge up another one. How soon do you need to start learning?

Apparently when you actually call the cowards out, they're nowhere to be found.

[ look it's easier to focus on that than the elephant in the room for a second ]

Oh, my bad. Then, uhm...welcome! I mean, welcome back?

[He only remembers the other Yang and this is confusing him in the same way when he was told he was here before and is he the only one thinking about it too hard? He's starting to get a headache thinking about it. Yang seems okay with the explanation though, so maybe it's best to move on.

He winces at his wording and nods frantically.] Yeah, that's what I meant, we switched bodies! It was kind of weird, but it wasn't that bad after I took off the heels.

Sure! [If he can drive a bike, he can drive anything! He's so excited, Yang's here and she's going to teach him to ride a bike. Maybe eventually he can get his own and modify it to use water Dust--

Maybe he's getting a little ahead of himself.] Want someone to go with you when you shop? I don't know much about bikes, but I know where a lot of the shops in Nova City are. I can put off the training for a little while, but I want to be done by the end of this month.

Yeah but they only give out unofficial licenses for that. ...And good food. [IT WAS WORTH IT]

That's because they know they and their dignity wouldn't stand a chance.

[That Emerald's famous? He totally agrees ~~and knows that isn't what it is.~~] I can't believe Emerald's famous for something that doesn't involve making people miserable. On top of you two, I have a lot of autographs to ask for.

Like ketchup. [ TOTALLY. ] What's the new job? [ Something heroic right? He can't picture Jaune sitting still on things for too long. But how do you involve a car? ]

[Whatever version of Jaune he happens to be, does it really matter? He'll always be the same dorky friend who's definitely grown on her, especially after knowing he went to Mistral with her little sister. Anyone who's good to Ruby gets a gold star in Yang's book.]

I was just going to suggest that, actually. I don't want to delay your job search any longer than necessary, so we're pretty much going to be shopping for a bike that's all yours. I'll invite you over when I'm working on fixing up my own so you can learn some basic maintenance and repairs.

Sound good?

[He feels the same about Yang, minus the part where she's dorky. While he knows the basics of what happened to her after Beacon, he never learned anything beyond that, so seeing that she's better than when Ruby last described her is a relief.]

Wait. [He points to himself.] We're shopping for me? But what about you? Yeah that sounds good, but when you said scrounge up do you mean literally scrounge up the supplies to build a new one?

[Because that would make her even cooler.]

I didn't bother to watch it. I'll try being impressed when she makes some effort toward being a better person instead of just not ruining Mercury's attempts to actually do something.

[ As far as she knows, Emerald hasn't really done anything besides float around being a bitch. The last time she saw her was when Jaune brought her over unconscious last year and then she had Grell breathing down her neck about how her deputy tried to kill her. She's not impressed. ]

[Narrowing his eyes in concern.] Ketchup isn't a food. Firefighting. I can't get burned, and that would make saving people a lot easier, so...

I didn't watch it on purpose. [Yes he did. But her next statement has him frowning thoughtfully. Emerald might be a bitch, but he doesn't remember her actively killing anyone since arriving. She was just...not actively a good person.]

She didn't kill me when she really wanted to. That counts, right?

It'd just be a luxury for me at this point, don't worry about it. You need your wheels and a license, so let's just focus on that for now.

[She grins, leaning back on her robo-arm.]

I'd rather haul something out of the junkyard and fix that up rather than try to build one from scratch, but I might be able to rig something up if I get really desperate. Ruby told you she built her weapon all by herself, right? That kind of hobby runs in the family.

[Yang will gladly admit that Ruby has the real talent in that department, though.]

Oh. [ . . . it's not? ] Where does the driving come in?

What, did they force you to watch TV on your mystery retreat?

[ She quirks an eyebrow. ] Not committing murder is not an impressive feat. Most people do that on a daily basis.

Hey, Jaune. You look good.

[She had wondered where he had been, but not telling her anything might mean he didn't want her to know. Which hurts, but if it's for him to look healthier, then she can live.]

But you just-- [Aw heck, he can't argue with her. He beams, excited for the chance to hang out with someone he's always wanted to more and just do...normal life stuff.] Sounds good!

[He doesn't really blink, but he notices that robo-arm is different and one he hasn't seen before. She must have gotten it back on Remnant. It's good to know, and it seems to match her personality, too.]

I guess if you can build complicated weapons like the ones you two have, you can build a bike. [They're both talented as far as he's concerned, and he'd probably be impressed by anything they could create.] I hadn't thought of using the junkyard as a spot to grab supplies before. Where are you staying right now? We need to find you a garage.

[not by itself it's a delicious condiment!!!] For emergencies and stuff we'd have to be there fast. And I guess in case they need someone to drive the truck.

So much TV. I had to sit through all twenty seasons of Slate's Anatomy. [He rolls his eyes in mock exhaustion. Acting like this is easier than facing the other subject. He isn't sure if he's trying to avoid the topic, or ease into it.]

I'm just saying I attacked her first and she still didn't. Maybe she's not the best person here, but she's not the worst. ...But that's just my opinion and it could be wrong. [He hadn't really meant to argue about whether Emerald was a good person or not.]

[Honestly, that...catches him off guard a little. Out of all the other Deputies, he liked Grievous and respected him the most. Had he been chosen as one of the Guardians, maybe Jaune would have stayed. General Grievous had always treated him more as a peer than an idiot or an idiot who made rash mistakes on the job, but he hadn't expected him to say that.]

I was just trying to give you less work now that you have to keep Mercury and Garrus in line.

But I've missed you too. [He doesn't regret his choices so much as how he made them, but while the isolation helped it also was lonely at times.]
