Of whom is just sitting there on the table, pleased as punch to be there.

Mordecai has taken a seat across from it, still within shot of the camera.... and just stares.

Just steeples his hands in front of his face.

And stares. Meowth doesn't really seem to notice, nor care, about its new owner, just comfortably curling up into a ball on the table and appearing to doze off as the almost expressionless cat just.... fucking stares.

What if someone walked up to you and handed you a little pink hairless pixie infant and told you that you have to take care of it now?

With a human child I would have the option of bringing it to an orphanage. But do you really just want to put this pokemon on the street? People catch them and use them to fight another.

Well I would, but Viktor threatened to cave my head in if I did, so that idea has been set aside for the moment.

Why don't you have Viktor take care of it then until you feel more comfortable with the kitten? My partner and I take care of all our pokemon together.

That's true. And he ought to be supportive of you, anyway. Children are a responsibility a couple shoulders together, not one of them doing all the work.

Then he should definitely be more involved. There was never any debate between my partner and me that we would be sharing duties. When we got our eggs we made sure that our shifts didn't overlap so someone was always at home to take care of the newly hatched pokemon, until we could trust them to stay alone at home. He built us a house, too.
