[ Oh look Genessia, it's another one of these PSA's from the Attleton Guardian's office, sent over the network and read by Attleton's local radio and TV stations. ]

1. We are aware of the problem of ducks regularly causing traffic jams on Main Street. We are taking it seriously. Nevertheless, I have to ask Attleton's animal lovers to stop calling us with alarmist reports of "There are innocents about to be murdered by death machines right here on Main Street!"

2. Please stop filing charges against the wild Spearows that were stealing food in Attleton during the annual pokemon visit. We issued a bounty on them and the ones who weren't apprehended are long gone. No, we can't bring them back so Judge Judith can put them on trial on court TV.

3. If they wish, Deputies will be given the opportunity to attend classes in Criminal Justice at Attleton University as workload permits.

4. The Attleton Guardian's office is looking to fill a Deputy position.

- Volunteer position: unpaid
- Full-time (with allowances made in scheduling for a second paid job)
- Combat skills necessary, preferably capable fighter even without using magic or supernatural powers
- Experience in law enforcement, military or similar preferred
- Out-of-town candidates welcome but must be willing to move to Attleton
- Must be capable of following orders and working in a team, including work with pokemon
- Not afraid of ducks

[He seems to be thinking it over. It will probably be work, but his current work is a lot like play, and he kind of has nothing to slack off over, and maybe he wouldn't. He doesn't want to disappoint Cassian.]

I guess so. Sure.

[ That doesn't sound very convincing but also intriguing. ]

Are you aware it's a full-time job? With night shifts? And weekend shifts? You'd be in the office just as much as Kay and I am.

Yeah, I read that.

[He smiles and shrugs slightly.]

I used to have a full time job you know. All day every day.

[ He chuckles a little. ]

I know. And you went about it very lazily, or so you've told me.

[He leans forward, elbows propped up on the desk. ]

Do you know how to fight without your powers?

Well kinda, yeah, still had to get it done though.

[Lazy and drawn out, sure, but the work got done or he wouldn't be here.]

I guess. [He can't deny he's lazy, Cassian knows him.]

What do you mean by that? I have a lot of powers. If you mean hand to hand or just with my sitar without the water, then yeah. I'm probably average. I'm stronger than some of the members, but not stronger than others.

If you were reduced to a normal human's capabilities. No magic. No supernatural speed or strength or invulnerability or whatever some people might have. It's happened before, that criminals employed technology to strip the Deputies of their power.

[ Last spring. And it hasn't been a hiring criterion all the way since then. ]

[He nods, but he laughs.]

Supernatural speed? Nothing like that. I don't have anything like that. If I didn't have my powers, I should still have my sitar.

[Yes, he does mean that is his weapon.]

And if I didn't have my sitar, I mean, I can fight with my hands. I don't know how to use other weapons if that's what you mean.

I know you have no superspeed.

[ Speediness is one thing you don't have to worry about with him, Cassian adds within his own mind. ]

You'd have to learn. I need everyone on my team able to at least shoot a blaster. A gun. A gun.

[ Blaster is asking a little too much. ]

Uhhh okay. I've never tried so I don't know if I can or not. It's not like we ever shared weapons and Xiggy's the one who had the gun.

Then we should do that anyway, regardless whether you become my Deputy or not. Kay lost the excellent aim he used to have when he was revived but I can teach you.

Okay sure, if you want. I don't know how it's better than my sitar though.

[ Sigh. ]

It's not a sitar, for one thing.

[ Blasters are better than sitars, sheesh! ]

It's not about being better but about having something that works if you can't use your powers.

I know from Xiggy's continuous amusement that it's a weird weapon, but it works! It's pretty heavy, you should try it.

[He smiles.]

But I can learn, I guess.

I'd like you to learn. Can't have you be the only one in our house who can't shoot a gun, even Sonico has been to the shooting range.

Okay Cassian, I can try.

Alright, we'll talk about that tonight.

[ He gives him a small smile and straightens, clearing his throat. ]

As for the interview, do you understand that you'll have to be upholding Attleton's laws? Even when it's difficult. We don't get to choose to whom we apply the laws and to whom not.

[ He's not perfect about this either, far from it, but he tries. ]

[He nods a little.]

Yeah, I mean in your job you're doing things to keep things peaceful and orderly here, right? I know how to follow rules.

[Even if Cassian doesn't believe his rules were right in the past - and they weren't - he did follow them.]

I probably don't know all of the laws here, I mean, I never asked. But you can tell me.

We all had to figure it out when we started, I'm not expecting anyone to be an expert on Attleton laws when they start. Attleton is... peculiar.

[ Kriffing weird, that's what it is. But weird or not, it is his weird town. ]

I. [ He has to chuckle a little.] I have to admit I don't quite know what to ask you in an interview. I've never had one with someone I knew so well already.

Well, it probably makes it easier for you to know if you want me to do it or not, because you know me I mean.

[He shrugs helplessly.]

I've never done an interview before either.

I guess. I'll have to think about it and see what other candidates there are. I believe I can count on you to have my back either way if I truly need you.

[ He falls silent for a moment, lips pressed together. ]

It's easier to send near strangers to die, you know.

Yeah, I would.

[He means that too, that's why he wants to help.]

Maybe. [He's not sure about that, but he'll trust Cassian.] But I'm pretty hard to kill y'know? [He grins.]

I've survived the Organization this long, after all. [It's no small feat.]

[ He laughs a little though it's not even funny, not really. ]

I know. You're hardier than you look. That's a good thing. I'm pretty sure I heard Dante talking about having someone new to torment.

[ He stops himself, frowning. Demyx has, after all, different standards for "tormenting" your colleagues. ]

Not torment like what was common in the Organization, mind you. He wouldn't, and I wouldn't permit it.

[He smiles and shrugs.]

Nah, I got what you were saying, don't worry. I know the Organization is this big weird thing and just, yeah...sorry, I'm trying not to talk about it so much.

[But it was all he knew for a very long time, nearly half his life.]

I know you wouldn't let anyone hurt me...clearly.

That's right, I wouldn't.

[ He makes an amused noise. ]

I'm glad we're now at a point where you agree that the Organization was weird.

Well I knew that much just...I don't know. I couldn't really do anything about it.

[He shrugs helplessly.]

And I didn't remember much about what happened before I was there. Still don't.
