[Finally, fingers move away from the lens to reveal a pale redhead who peered at the phone with the gaze of someone who was still trying to get the image to clear.

He waits, as if expecting another face to appear to respond, like it would during a proper mirror call. Uncertain if that was how this phone worked, he sighed.]

Well, I'm not sure if anyone is watching, but the my name is Spirit Albarn, Death Scythe. And my daughter is here too. If you so much as touch her, I will kill you.

Then they must have not had souls, because that's not possible. Only a Meister soul can sync with a Weapon soul.

Seeing as they were soldiers that came with the new Lord Death in the first wave on the moon, I doubt they were witches.

[There is actual frustration in his voice, but he's trying not to show it. He doesn't want her to get angry, but truthfully, there is a reason he does what he does.]

Not everything is like in a textbook. That's one of my skills as a Death Scythe, the ability to work with just about anyone. I've not met a person I couldn't work with, not once.

I may understand that you're never going to change your perverted habits, but that doesn't mean I have to like that it's your motivation for doing things.

And you can't trust everybody just because they're "pretty." You could get seriously hurt yourself, never mind hurting them. The soldiers at least are trained by the Academy, have the capability of being Meisters even if they're not officially, we know them. We don't know anyone here.

[Mostly, he's unsure how to take her response. Sure, he's surprised. But there's also a part of him that's touched by her concern, even if it's misplaced. In some way it felt like there was too much explaining to do, to let her know that he would be safe, and that he can care for himself--he can read a wavelength when he's being partnered with it, manipulate it ever-so-slightly, work with it. But that's a lot of discussion and even to him it seemed boringly technical, so he let it pass.]

[He smiles weakly. What else is he supposed to say? He can't ever look out for her, but she seems to always be sneakily looking out for him.]

She knows why he's worried, she's still just a kid and he's her dad, but she's so used to not relying on him for anything anymore, being crammed closer to each other in this world is uncomfortable.]

[He can almost hear her yelling at him already. But she's uncomfortable, and he's almost content setting something up so that she can, because it's their relationship the way it stands. It's easy that way.]

[Understatement of the eon. Spirit is feeling rather caught between wanting to be fatherly and supportive towards Kid--much like his former meister--and being an appointed representative of the former Lord Death. It hasn't gotten any easier, and it's of no help that he misses his former boss quite dearly.

Spirit is a self proclaimed bad role model. He knows he isn't particularly good at the sensitive matters involved in parenting. So he is rather glad that he isn't with Maka in person, as he knows without a doubt she would be able to sense his overall trepidation regarding the situation.]

You don't have to do that. It will work itself out.

Maka has no doubt that her father loves her and she made peace with the feeling of abandonment she had growing up and watching him flirt with women that aren't her mom a long time ago. It's just a fact that she's accepted in her own mind, both her lack of appeal and his lack of control.]

He clears his throat before speaking, breaking through the lump that had settled there.]

He can turn into a scythe and I'm trained to use scythes, so yes. Besides, I used him before and it didn't turn out totally terrible.

I don't know if you come from one of those places where kids live with their parents, but I haven't lived with him for a few years now, nobody that goes to the Academy lives with their parents.

He is still your father, and you might just find it unbearable if you lose him. I know I would with my own father. There is comfort in knowing that he is there. You might even enjoy the fact that you won't be separated from your father here unlike in your academy. Lest he be killed of course.

With all due respect, ma'am, I would rather not talk about this with someone I don't even know. I'm sorry for interrupting your conversation in the first place, but I have to be sure my dad is keeping himself out of trouble.

["He's still your dad" blah blah blah, she knows, and she knows he cares about her, she cares about him too, but it's hard and she doesn't trust him and it hurts hurts hurts. But Azula's right, she knows that she'd start to miss her father if she was in this strange place without him for a long period of time. But Maka isn't one of those shonen heroes that openly talks about her private life with strangers, she barely even talks about it with her friends.]

At any rate, he's a strong Weapon, and he's different from others in that he can change his soul to suit others, so he's right about possibly being able to be used by non-Meisters. But I'd still rather screen the soul of every person he comes in contact with first.

[Spirit can almost feel Maka's discomfort, and stares at the screen for a few moments before interrupting. Anything to help her not suffer this discomfort, even if he's not good at it.

He clears his throat loudly.]

I think I best get off this phone thing and find somewhere to stay. Only been here a few hours, but I imagine I wouldn't want to be wandering the streets after dark.

Genessia City is still recovering. I might suggest you travel past Fayren's gate or Nova City's gate to get a decent place to spend the night. Though I have no doubt of your abilities, I strongly suggest avoiding Everglade, at least, for now. Unless you're confident with sleeping around vampires, witches, ghosts, demons and werewolves, to name a few. Find a suitable place to live, the money they gave you can last somewhere from 30-90 days depending on your chosen living accommodations and your diet. It is imperative that you find a job as soon as possible as well.
