PLAYER EVENT: GENESSIA CARNIVAL

The week of the carnival has arrived! With the combined effort of paid workers, volunteers, Azura, and those Azura decided were going to help her (Looking at you Fam), the setup has gone without a hitch. Those who come by the large park in Genessia City during the morning and afternoon of the 16th will see the carnival in various stages of completion. It isn't the sun starts to set and the sky begins to burn the colors of pink and orange with a topping of blue that the lights on the carnival tents and other structures come to life. THE CARNIVAL IS ON. It's clear that the carnival takes up almost all of the park; it's setup done so that the rides, attractions, booths and other assorted portions of the carnival are setup around ponds and lakes and take advantage of paths in the park. At the entrance are a myriad of food stalls, while the bigger rides are further in the back. In between are smaller attractions like games, but more importantly this is where all of the booths for the residents are set up. Several rows deep, the offerings here are wildly different and each engaging in its own way. Lastly, the larger attractions of the Carnival are organized in the large central portion of the carnival where a large area has been cleared and sectioned off in 4 large rectangles to house each with plenty of room. [She holds herself back, eyeing Bakugou as she defensively holds up the tail of her cape as if the onions are about to come a-flying, but when they don't, she relaxes.]
[Only to stiffen up again, hands flung in the air.]
Your knight?! Ridiculous! Absurd! Onis can't be knights!
[There's a five second pause.]
...........Maybe just this once!
no subject
[He bows his head sadly. The sadness is over and he punches the air, screaming at the top of his lungs.]
WHICH IS WHY I SAY SCREW DESTINY, I'M GOING TO MAKE MY OWN LIFE!!!
Okay Knight, I'll let you be in charge of the map that leads to the dragon's castle.

[She hangs her shoulders and her big furry head. But as soon as Bakugou yells she bends backward as if his voice is just about to blow her clean off her feet.]
S-such determination and bravery...!
[She clasps her hands to her heart, then turns away to speak to the audience.]
No, I mustn't be moved. It will only raise my hopes and dash them to itty bitty pieces on the cliffs of despair. I will help him, but I...
[She rolls her head dramatically to gaze longingly at the angriest shrine priest. Then jerks her head back.]
No! Stupid stupid! He is strong and independent and has no wish to be married, especially to a swamp oni! I must steel my heart!
[She whirls back toward Bakugou and draws her plastic sword.]
With your brilliant and amazing mastery of flame, and my ability to hit things really hard, no enemy can stand against us. I will lead you with my oni eyes.
[She reaches out for his hand and holds it tightly.]
We'll protect each other from here on.

[He walks around as he rants, practically foaming at the mouth at the end of it and goes quiet for Orihime's monologue. When Shurk makes her decision, he glances up at her, stilling and drawing in a breath when she takes his hand.
He gets over it seconds later, his voice doing its characteristic crack when he's excited, sad or emotional in general.]
I FINALLY GET TO MURDER THINGS! LET'S GO MURDER THE WORLD, SHURK-CHAN!!!
no subject
[Some people in the audience are snickering. Others are staring. Should these roles be reversed? What kind of shrine maiden gets excited about killing things? No one is looking away or messing with their phones, though, they have to see how this goes.]
[The two walk across the stage, pausing at the other end just long enough for someone to quickly set up the 'dragon': a cement-filled bucket with a broom stick, and a paper mache dragon head on top with more red streamers falling out of its mouth.]
[Orihime turns around slowly, only picking up the pace when the prop is ready. She throws out her arm to keep her partner from walking any further.]
Wait! The dragon is just up ahead! Let's get ready to put our plan in motion.
[She holds up her sword to make it clear this is about to get real.]
I'll charge at it from the front and yell a lot so you know where we are. Then you sneak up from the side and throw fireballs at it. Are you ready?
no subject
I'm always ready. Just don't get in the way of my fireballs, okay? One, two
THREE!
[He waits for her cue before he starts sneaking off, crawling over the floor like some kind of fucking demon.]
no subject
[She nods firmly before lowering her arm, and upon 'three' she rushes forward.]
UWROOOOO FEEL MY WRATH YOU KING OF EVIL!
[The sword smacks harmlessly against the stick as Orihime attacks, and conveniently angles her elbow into its lifeless mouth.]
'Raaaaaaarrrrr!' OW MY ARM! 'Raaaaaarrrr!' AAAAAHHHHH!
[Whack whack thwack! She stumbles back and goes to 'kick' it, jamming her foot into the open paper mouth.]
Noooooo my leg too! 'Raaaaarrr tastes like chicken!' Take this and that!
[Thwack wack! Then she makes a 'FWOOOSH' sound out of the side of her mouth, using her sword to flick at the streamers so it kinda sorta looks like it's breathing fire. She bends back.]
Ow ow it's hot!
no subject
[Bakugou stops when he's closer to the dragon and Orihime, counting his steps and using her voice as a guide. He stands up, readying an attack, fake flames dancing around him gracefully as he pulls off an elegant spin-]
SHURK-CHAN!!!
[His flames hit the dragon, but he's too late! He can hear his comrade's panic.]
I can hear your pain. Shurk-chan...ahhhhhhhhhhAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH DIE YOU FUCKING REPTILIAN SCUM!!!
[He balls up the rest of the tissue paper, tossing it at the dragon. Someone backstage uses a stock godzilla scream to signify its fall, and Bakugou starts running to where his fallen comrade--his friend--his partner and other half, is.]
S-Shurk-chan... How? Why? Why couldn't I--
[And then he starts to sing]
Why couldn't I make it through and murder for you
All I ever wanted to do
Was somebody never told me that I would fall for Oni
I guess I really fucked up now
I said what how about death
I don't got a lot worth to live
And then I heard you walk throoough
Shit man
This isn't what I planned
I guess fate dealt us a rough hand
SO SAY FUCKING SOMETHING OR I'LL FUCKING KILL YOU!!!

[This time, though, she's just too nervous. She knows what's coming up next, and even though she's practiced on her pillow, it can't possibly come close to the real thing. So she lies on the ground, wearing her cinnamon chapstick, while Bakugou gets to shine.]
[They did say this was going to be a musical.]
[It's only when he finishes that she moves her head and places a finger against his lips to quiet him.]
It's okay.
[Her hand moves to the side toward his cheek as she smiles behindh her mask.]
It's okay. You won your freedom, ne? That was worth...ngh...worth fighting for. You were my first friend, so... Aaaaagh...
[She kicks a foot up before letting it drop.]
I........love...........
[Her hand drops from his cheek, fingertips skimming down to his jaw before flopping onto the stage as her head lolls to the side.]
Uweeeehhhhhhhhhhhhggggggghhhhhhh...
[DEAD.]
[Her heart is pounding so hard she's sure the people in the back row can hear it. Maybe it's not a big deal. Maybe he'll just kiss the mask after all. That would be the authentic thing, right?]
no subject
Bakugou stills, something twisting in his chest. It's akin to the rush he gets before a fight, and he doesn't know how to label it. He tries not to think about it.]
But I couldn't save you. They were right. Everyone was right. I'm weak.
[His voice cracks, but he doesn't bother to try and force himself to cry. He reaches out when Orihime goes silent.]
Shurk-chan?
...
SHURK-CHAN?!
[His shoulders quake with false sobs and he reaches for her mask, throwing it violently at the audience. It probably hits someone in the face. Sorry about that.]
You were the first person to see me as something more than a prop. I love... I just wish...
[He cups her cheek, his heart hammering noisily in his ears.]
I wish I had figured it out sooner.
[He leans forward, getting a whiff of cinnamon. It's pleasant. He shuts his eyes--he's not sure why--and finally captures her lips in his.]

[At her side, hidden from the audience's view by her hip, her fingers tightly grip the tattered dress. She's supposed to be subtly yanking out the tufts of fur for her curse-breaking transformation, but she forgot. It's hard to think of much when she feels his warm, calloused hand on her cheek, and feels his breath ghosting over her face.]
[Then there's the warmest, sweetest contact. Thundering against her ribs, her heart can't seem to take it, but she made up her mind a long time ago to let this moment convey to him how she really feels. Her lips part just slightly, conforming to the shape of his own, and she kisses him. It's soft. Gentle. The scent of his hair cements the memory firmly in her mind, and suddenly she's glad that she decided to let this be her first kiss. It's not at all what she imagined, but it's everything she wanted.]
[Behind her closed eyes, she's dimly aware that it's getting brighter. She assumes the little flashes of light are just people taking pictures. Bulla said this might get reviewed for the next newspaper.]
[The floating motes of light aren't coming from cameras, though. They appear a few at a time, like tiny gold fireflies, as the two are illuminated with the magic of curse fragments shattering apart. A pleasant wind sweeps across the stage, ruffling their clothing, sending the ball of wadded up red tissue paper skittering to a thump against the curtain.]
no subject
Her lips are soft and he's overcome with a weird sense of warmth that can't be classified into his normal, constant rage. He's always had trouble expressing and identifying emotions other than anger and wanting to win. It's nice but he thinks that if it had been someone else doing this with him, he would just be pissed off. He lingers there longer than necessary, ignoring the awed gasps from the audience. Fuck, they're annoying.
He doesn't have to clasp a lock of her hair, but he still does. Her breath is warm against him and he hears weird...it can only be described as soft chimes. Is that tinnitus or did the sound effects crew decide to do something new without discussing it with them? He finally breaks the kiss and opens his eyes. He must be going crazy because he's imagining shapes. Wispy shapes that float around, picking up speed and volume as they brighten, circling around them in a whirlwind. Bakugou gasps, because it hurts his eyes, but other than that the first thing he sees
It's fire.
The golden fireflies finally burst into fireworks, and Bakugou freezes in place, staring at Orihime as things start to come into focus. Even though it hurts, he stares at her, tears spilling from his eyes. The audience probably just thinks he's a very good actor, from the way he chokes on his words.]
Your hair...
It's beautiful. [He breaks down, screaming in raw emotions and yanks her up into his arms.]
no subject
[When they break apart, she's undeniably happy. Her breathing is quick, and her pulse is racing, but there's so much genuine affection reflected in her face. Then she blinks as a pinprick of gold light zips past his face. Wait, what was that? There's so many! Her head turns as her brow furrows. It's beautiful, but she's not clear on why they're here. This is too elaborate for their cheap and gaudy props.]
[Something wet falls on her cheek and her gaze snaps back to Bakugou. It's not rain...he's crying...]
[And he's looking at her.]
[Orihime's eyes widen as she sucks in a breath. His scarlet eyes are moving, really alive and alert, and then their gazes lock again. He can see...?!]
[There's no squawk of surprise when he suddenly hugs her, because her arms go around his neck just as fast. She stares over his shoulder for a moment as her own eyes fill with tears that line her lashes and spill down her cheeks. Then she makes a choked sound of joy as her fingers close, knotting the loose fabric of his shirt as she clutches him in a tight embrace.]
Thank goodness...thank goodness...!
[She laughs, her voice hitching, and she cradles the back of his head with one hand. After so long...after all this time...she's so glad!]
no subject
[There's a loud pop! when, without warning, his hands start to produce mini explosions and he places them down, chin stubbornly hooked on her shoulder, even as he risks setting the area around them on fire.]
no subject
[This should be the cue for them to stand up and take a bow, but she doesn't want to let go of him yet. He can see. He can use his powers. He'll be back to his usual confident self in no time now, and it's such a relief!]
[She leans her cheek against his fluffy hair. She loves him, of that she's absolutely certain now.]
Ne...let's bow and go buy ice cream in every flavor.
[The more colorful, the better for his eyes. Even so, she's not going to be the first one to pull away.]
no subject
Let's just do this.
[He still remains close as he stands up, accidentally looking at one of the stage lights and hissing in pain. Screw bowing. He's going to try and scoop her up and get the fuck out of there.]
no subject
[Her face is flushed with heat when he hoists her up so effortlessly, but the surprise quickly turns to sheepish joy. She waves (mostly at her friends once she spots them) before holding onto Bakugou. It doesn't much matter where they're going; at this point, she'd follow him anywhere.]
[PLAY END.]
