PLAYER EVENT: GENESSIA CARNIVAL

Genessia Carnival

The week of the carnival has arrived! With the combined effort of paid workers, volunteers, Azura, and those Azura decided were going to help her (Looking at you Fam), the setup has gone without a hitch. Those who come by the large park in Genessia City during the morning and afternoon of the 16th will see the carnival in various stages of completion. It isn't the sun starts to set and the sky begins to burn the colors of pink and orange with a topping of blue that the lights on the carnival tents and other structures come to life.

THE CARNIVAL IS ON.

It's clear that the carnival takes up almost all of the park; it's setup done so that the rides, attractions, booths and other assorted portions of the carnival are setup around ponds and lakes and take advantage of paths in the park. At the entrance are a myriad of food stalls, while the bigger rides are further in the back. In between are smaller attractions like games, but more importantly this is where all of the booths for the residents are set up. Several rows deep, the offerings here are wildly different and each engaging in its own way. Lastly, the larger attractions of the Carnival are organized in the large central portion of the carnival where a large area has been cleared and sectioned off in 4 large rectangles to house each with plenty of room.

Carnival Fare

  1. Food And Drink - There are so many smells that sometimes your nose might be confused. From the scent of roasting meat, to the smell of sugary sweet cotton candy, the myriad of scents mingle throughout the whole carnival. There's an entire section of picnic tables for carnival goers to take a load off and eat their fill. The admission ticket even paid for complimentary drinks! However, there are plenty of stalls that are offering much more interesting options, including alcohol (for adults only!). Food ranges in price of course, and unfortunately there are a few stalls that might be overpricing their food...

  2. Rides and Attractions - The carnival isn't complete without classic carnival rides. There's a ferris wheel, teacups, several different merry-go-rounds, as well as a SUPER ROMANTIC Tunnel of Love. For the more adventurous there's even a few smaller sized roller coasters as well as an interesting looking magically powered water slide that's powered by a couple of local wizards and a "Doctor". One of the most popular rides seems to be the bumper cars, where each car has the chance to change shape on impact. Lastly for those who are brave enough there's a 2 story haunted house of mirrors full of jump scares and atmospheric music.

  3. Games and Stalls - THIS is where all of those stalls that were signed up for are. Of course, they make up the bulk of stalls, though the ones that are food oriented border the area mentioned earlier. Other booths such as shooting ranges, pingpong ball toss, fortune tellers, toy building booths and even a couple of booths where you can fish up your own little fish pet are here. Careful though, some of these booths are lowkey ripoffs, since they were largely built by volunteers. Should you get scammed it's wise to try and find security rather than handle it yourselves.

Main Attractions

  1. Randomized Plays - These plays are held nightly, but they're not your traditional plays. Participants are chosen from the audience who paid admission! On top of that, the roles are randomly assigned. You never really know what you're going to get, so in the end the plays come out a lot like improv. They're also largely hilarious, unintentionally or otherwise as often the two plays wind up intermingled! Once, Rumtumtugger wound up playing the part of Belle, while Gaston had to do a solo song all on his own... In the end, it'll be up to you what role your character plays, but it's never quite what's expected. Behind the scenes must be a riot no matter what!

  2. Obstacle Course - One attraction at the center of the carnival seems to weave around the other three, and out into the grounds itself. It's a complicated series of obstacles, from a pit of inky, oily water, to slippery bridges and swinging portions that need to be dodged. Portions of the course are even quite vertical, offering a strenuous climb as part of the challenge. This course is not for the faint of heart, and many will find themselves having to give up halfway through, or even being disqualified by being knocked out of the course. Those who choose to work together might make it farther but in the end only one can win. Be prepared for betrayal if you take that route...

  3. Eating Competition - There's not just one eating competition during the week of the carnival. Instead, several are held throughout the week. Hotdogs are first, followed by pancakes, then burgers. After that, towards the final three days of the carnival the bigger competitions start.
    • Hotdogs - how many can you eat in 5 minutes?
    • Pancakes - how many can you eat in 5 minutes?
    • Burgers - how many can you eat in 8 minutes?
    • Whole Chickens - You have 3, can you eat them all in 12 minutes?
    • Whole Turkey - You have an entire turkey, how much can you eat in 10 minutes?
    • 6 Tier Chocolate Cake - Finish the whole cake to win. (Hour Time Limit)
Those who have supernatural abilities are given an extra challenge to make things fair. For those who eat themselves sick there is a medical tent nearby, and of course plenty of room for a crowd of spectators.

  4. Jousting Competition - The colorful, campy and overall cheesy look of this jousting competition almost looks like a childish version of the competition. However, the prizes are real. Instead of the prize for the winning "knight" the winner of each match will be able to earn a fair sum of redbills! It's enough to cover the entry fee paid for the competition and then a couple hundred on top of that. Each participant chooses their weapon, but they all have different strange additional abilities depending on their color...
    • Yellow - sparkles on impact
    • Red - screams upon impact
    • Green - slimes whatever it hits
    • Blue - freezes what it touches for 3 seconds
For this competition special abilities beyond that of a normal human are dampened by special units hidden in the ring. Disabling them would of course, wind up in the participant being disqualified.

[Yeah, it's a little out of line in a couple places. Not enough to show anything, but enough to be apparent to someone who knows what to look for.] Your kimono's a little out of sorts. You wanna hit the restroom to fix it first?
innocent_royal: (Caught interest)

[personal profile] innocent_royal 2018-09-18 02:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh? Um, yeah. It feels tighter around my legs. Is it getting turned around?

[Anastasia tried to look herself over, but easier said than done.]

It must've twisted getting in and out of the ferris wheel. Let's go find someplace real fast.

A little bit. It was probably that long step from the wheel back to the platform. I think I remember seeing some restrooms over by the food stalls - that's probably the closest set.

[He sincerely hopes she knows how to adjust it herself, otherwise this could get awkward.]
innocent_royal: (Big smile)

[As if it wasn't awkward enough. They find a pair of restrooms and Anastasia retreats into the womens, coming out a few minutes later. Her kimono certainly looks better and properly straight now. Mostly. Living so long under Japanese influence has its perks.]

I think I got it. Does it look all right?

Where do you want to go next, Soma?
notquitedracula: (Smile)

[personal profile] notquitedracula 2018-09-23 08:29 am (UTC)(link)
You look good. [Freudian slip! But he's in no hurry to correct it.]

Hmm... There is one booth I wanted to visit, and it's nearby. I think you'll understand when we get there. [He offers his arm for her to hold, a gesture that's becoming more and more natural to him. He'd be worried, if he hadn't made up his mind not to be.]
innocent_royal: (Big smile)

[personal profile] innocent_royal 2018-09-23 08:33 am (UTC)(link)
[Blush~]

Thank you!

[Its a special occasion, so she sees no immediate issue not to accept. She loops her arm around his and gently holds on, ready to be escorted.]

Oh, so a surprise then? Is it another game booth?
notquitedracula: (Smile)

[personal profile] notquitedracula 2018-09-23 08:39 am (UTC)(link)
It is... but this one's special.

[It turns out to be a very familiar booth indeed. It's the same knife throwing game where they first met - it even has the same person running it.]

This takes me back a bit.
innocent_royal: (Big smile)

[personal profile] innocent_royal 2018-09-23 08:46 am (UTC)(link)
[She gasps in glee.]

Knife throwing? Me too~
Soma. This is where we first met.

[She gently tugs on his arm.]

Hey, let's recreate our meeting.

[Ana, no. That involves use of magic.]
notquitedracula: (A rare moment of joy)

[personal profile] notquitedracula 2018-09-23 08:53 am (UTC)(link)
Can't do that here, I'm afraid - not the magic parts, anyway. We'd get thrown out for cheating - and besides, neither of us is in costume. [He reaches over on impulse to ruffle her hair.] Don't worry, though - I'm still a good enough shot without magic to win you another prize.
innocent_royal: (Happy)

[personal profile] innocent_royal 2018-09-23 09:02 am (UTC)(link)
Aww, oh well. In hindsight, I was reckless to use my magic to test you anyway.

[So many nice prize that she honestly can't decide.]

Why don't you pick the prize this time?

notquitedracula: (Smile)

[personal profile] notquitedracula 2018-09-23 09:13 am (UTC)(link)
A bit. But I was also reckless, approaching you like that. It was... just that kind of day, I think.

Alright. [He puts down a five note, and the barker puts a set of knives in front of him. It's even the same knives, slightly off-balance and all. Needless to say, Soma puts them to good use.]

Hmm... I think... yes, that one. No, I'm sure. Trust me.

[And the reward for her indecision? A flying fox plush. Not albino, but you can't have everything. This one is captured in the process of eating a banana.]
innocent_royal: (Sparkle)

[personal profile] innocent_royal 2018-09-23 09:23 am (UTC)(link)
[She wasnt indecisive, she wanted to be surprised. And surprised she was.]

Cutie~

[When the prize reached her hands, she gave it a generous hug. The real one would scare the bajeebus out of her, but plush form is utterly adorable. She has quite a plush collection growing.]

Thank you, Soma!
notquitedracula: (Smile)

[personal profile] notquitedracula 2018-09-24 08:44 am (UTC)(link)
[Well, she's already seen the real one before. Except it was solid white, and had no banana to nom.]

You're welcome, Anya. Is there anything else you'd like to try?
innocent_royal: (Normal)

[personal profile] innocent_royal 2018-09-24 08:59 am (UTC)(link)
[She was quiet for a moment, thinking about what else they can do.]

I think that's it... All that's left is the haunted house, tunnel of love, eating contests, and mystic fortunes. I don't have an interest in either of those.

Unless I'm missing something?
notquitedracula: (Awkward)

[personal profile] notquitedracula 2018-09-24 09:09 am (UTC)(link)
The fortunes could be interesting, but... something about that stall feels off, to me. I can't put my finger on it. [He shrugs. It'd be easy to say 'I sense dark magic' but... really, that'd be the pot calling the kettle black, now wouldn't it?]

The haunted house we've already ruled out, and... I don't think the tunnel is a good idea right now, either.
innocent_royal: (Worried)

[personal profile] innocent_royal 2018-09-24 09:15 am (UTC)(link)
[Everything is as she said. But this about the fortune telling? She just assumed they would say what she wanted to hear, but...]

What's off about the fortune telling booth?
notquitedracula: (Smile)

Something about the cards. I'd have to investigate them more closely to tell, but... from here, I just have a bad feeling.

But we're here to have fun, not investigate bad juju. C'mon, let's try something else. Maybe the bumper cars?
