PLAYER EVENT: GENESSIA CARNIVAL

The week of the carnival has arrived! With the combined effort of paid workers, volunteers, Azura, and those Azura decided were going to help her (Looking at you Fam), the setup has gone without a hitch. Those who come by the large park in Genessia City during the morning and afternoon of the 16th will see the carnival in various stages of completion. It isn't the sun starts to set and the sky begins to burn the colors of pink and orange with a topping of blue that the lights on the carnival tents and other structures come to life. THE CARNIVAL IS ON. It's clear that the carnival takes up almost all of the park; it's setup done so that the rides, attractions, booths and other assorted portions of the carnival are setup around ponds and lakes and take advantage of paths in the park. At the entrance are a myriad of food stalls, while the bigger rides are further in the back. In between are smaller attractions like games, but more importantly this is where all of the booths for the residents are set up. Several rows deep, the offerings here are wildly different and each engaging in its own way. Lastly, the larger attractions of the Carnival are organized in the large central portion of the carnival where a large area has been cleared and sectioned off in 4 large rectangles to house each with plenty of room. Is that so? Are you going to tell me what kind it is or should I try to guess? [despite having been working her fingers to the bone over this carnival, she's completely welcoming of a break, especially in Uai's company. She reaches out to curl her fingers around Uai's hand lightly.]

Instead, he's enjoying the feeling of a hand in his. It doesn't cross his mind why this feels so exciting, just that he's grateful for it. He even grips her hand back.]
Have you had any real food yet? We can't have desserts until you'd had something proper. [what a dad.]
no subject
It sounds like you're mostly interested in the desserts. But unfortunately no. I have not had time to eat. [She'd been ignoring the usual pangs of hunger for a couple of hours now, considering just how much there had been to finish. Uai had shown up at the perfect time, and of course was a perfect excuse to give herself a break.]
There's plenty of things we could try. I never realized how much food could be served on skewers.

Festival food is pretty popular in my birth country. I think they have some foods from my home here... Does anything here look like a food from Hoshido or Nohr?
no subject
She blinks, looking around almost absently before she pays attention to what she's supposed to be seeing.] Oh, I suppose a couple of stands remind me of Hoshido, but I believe most of it is more similar to Nohrian food.
[she probably sounds just a LITTLE flustered, despite herself.]
no subject
... Ah. Sorry. Do you not want to talk about home...? [Is what he concludes. Maybe Azura is feeling homesick? Or could it be stressful to have so much of her family here? He's been so worried about the carnival that he realizes he may have neglected other aspects of Azura's happiness.
Feeling guilty, he loosens his grip on her hand.]
I can shut up if you'd rather just eat.
no subject
No, I'm fine. I'm sorry, I've been a little distracted tonight. [she offers a genuine smile, lifting her free hand up to pat his cheek in reassurance.]
Of course, your company is just as exciting as food, if not more so. I'm sure we have a lot we can talk about to catch up. [the color in her face brightens a moment, suddenly aware her inward thoughts might have been misconstrued as upset.]
no subject
This girl is dangerous. It's a really weird feeling. He's not used to forgetting to hate himself. And he doesn't have any right to be happy, even only momentarily, when he's left Hana to raise their children alone. He abandoned his entire family and created misery, while Azura holds hers together and organizes happy carnivals.
His grip tightens, then loosens entirely.]
I forgot. I might hurt you if I'm not careful. [Get a grip (but not on her hand!) Think about food. Food is a good neutral thing to think about.] I was just curious. The types of food a culture specializes in say a lot about the life there, so... If something was similar to Hoshido or Nohr, I could learn about you... uurr family.
[...] Sorry. I'll stop being so strange.
disgusting
It's only the many years she's had to carefully craft a still, nigh emotionless expression that keeps her from displaying her disappointment on her face. His verbal slip almost makes her laugh, but instead she does her best to offer him another, serene smile.]
You aren't being weird. I know you worry about getting close to others Uai. But you needn't be afraid of me. Or my family. [she steps away here, towards a food stall. It's hunks of meat and vegetables on skewers, and she orders two, passing the redbills to the stand operator]
These remind me a little of Nohr, actually. [she says, as she turns back to Uai. The subject of food IS a comfortable, neutral, and safe one -- and the flip flops her heart is doing might have a chance to calm down if they segue into talking about food.
She didn't want to ruin this outing with Uai getting dangerously close to feelings she's done a good job of keeping to herself for Uai's sake.]
wow gross
He welcomes the distraction. Looking at the food skewers, Uai relaxes somewhat.]
Really? We used to make these on the beach back home. [He offers his best smile. If he smiles enough, it's bound to become natural eventually.
Though Uai tells himself he learned the '
And... I'm not afraid, or anything. Your family is great. And you're not scary. [The choice for teasing words helps him slip into a stronger smile.] Unless there's something you aren't telling me.
no subject
No, I believe I have been as honest with you as I could, truly. [She holds her own skewer delicately, before pulling off one of the roasted vegetable slices to pop into her mouth and chew.
There's a conversational lull here as a result.]
I am glad to spend time with you, regardless, Uai. It's been too long since we had a chance that wasn't focused around work or the festival.
no subject
Can't ask for help though, gosh no. He's got more pride than he deserves.]
Yeah, same. It's good to take a break every once and a while. [Despite the fact that yes, he is actually an idiot who can't eat off a skewer, Uai smiles. Azura is more interesting that food on a stick anyway.]
It's been like a whirlwind since your family came. Every time they ask about you, I realize I haven't had many chances to really get to know you.
