PLAYER EVENT: GENESSIA CARNIVAL

The week of the carnival has arrived! With the combined effort of paid workers, volunteers, Azura, and those Azura decided were going to help her (Looking at you Fam), the setup has gone without a hitch. Those who come by the large park in Genessia City during the morning and afternoon of the 16th will see the carnival in various stages of completion. It isn't the sun starts to set and the sky begins to burn the colors of pink and orange with a topping of blue that the lights on the carnival tents and other structures come to life. THE CARNIVAL IS ON. It's clear that the carnival takes up almost all of the park; it's setup done so that the rides, attractions, booths and other assorted portions of the carnival are setup around ponds and lakes and take advantage of paths in the park. At the entrance are a myriad of food stalls, while the bigger rides are further in the back. In between are smaller attractions like games, but more importantly this is where all of the booths for the residents are set up. Several rows deep, the offerings here are wildly different and each engaging in its own way. Lastly, the larger attractions of the Carnival are organized in the large central portion of the carnival where a large area has been cleared and sectioned off in 4 large rectangles to house each with plenty of room. You probably will see him, he's big on the outdoors like mama.
[ Figurative mama, like how a lot of pet owners love to see themselves as. But Andrea shoots Konoka a look of skeptical curiosity, with a "wait hold up" hand gesture to go with it ]
What do you mean "fantastical" exactly?
no subject
Oh, I don't mean home home, but here in Genessia I have creatures called Pokemon. You might have seen a few odd looking animals tag along with people. They seem to like guarding my store during days off.
no subject
[ Her mind immediately went to poke, the Hawaiian dish. ]
Oh yeah, I've seen one of those already. In Hangar Queen. Looks like a sheep, it's really cute. I'm guessing they're native animals of this place?
no subject
[ She grinned.
It's finally their turn on the Ferris Wheel! Konoka opens it up, steps inside, and will help Andy in if she needs it. ]
Just like I thought. Gosh it's so much better to ride these things with other people.
Made a mistake earlier. Jimi was 8 weeks old not 2.
I know, right? It's one of those things that feel suuuper awkward to do alone. Like going to the movies alone.
no subject
[ And for a while, they simply chill on the ride, despite its tight quarters... or at least Konoka does. It's only when they're close to the top that Konoka speaks again. ]
Isn't the view nice up here?
[ Seeing the whole Carnival, and Genessia itself, is a wonder to behold. ]

[ Andrea looks out the window of the ride as they ascend, watching the lights of bright colors beneath them. The sounds of the carnival were muffled in the car, and more so from above. Andrea smiles, feeling herself reminded of her childhood. Andrea notices something peculiar that got her brows to quirk and finger to point down at something ]
Whoa! Oh look, those two are makin' out!
no subject
Then all hell breaks loose when Andy spies a couple making out. ][ ]
Ohmigod really!?
[ Konoka scrambles to see where Andy's pointing. It takes her a moment, but she does see the couple Andy was referring to! ]
So romantic!
no subject
[ She smirks. Because it wasn't actually a couple, but an automaton for the Tunnel of Love that looks like actual people from their point of view. Still, Andrea laughs ]
Gotcha!
no subject
[ It takes her a moment, but she realizes that she's been tricked! ]
Eehhhhh?!
[ She turns to Andy, tearful and betrayed! ]
No fair!
no subject
You actually wanted to see people makin' out!
no subject
[ Caught between her frustration on being cheated and obviously being attacked for wanting to see romance, Konoka is stuck defending herself. ]
You made it sound so good though!
no subject
[ She shrugs, leaning back against her seat with her arms up and hands on the back of her head. She still wears a smug grin on her face though ]
You just want to see people kissin'. There's a booth for that, y'know.
[ She's not judging or anything, just continuing to be smug and playfully ribbing Konoka to spend time as the slow ferris wheel keeps going ]
no subject
True, I guess.
[ She might have initially avoided it out of shame of being too obvious, but there was no getting past Andy now. ]
no subject
[ She shrugs again, waving her hand in the air and letting Konoka off the hook ]
My first date was in one, after all.
no subject
[ Now she has Konoka's interest. Earlier gloom and fluster forgotten, she almost looks impish as she mulls that over. Just asking for details will get her teased again, but two can play that game. ]
Did you like showing off for your date back then? Or are you hoping I'll bear witness next time you get a boyfriend (or even girlfriend)?
no subject
Ain't that one of the points of a date? Show off what you got and what you are?
[ Andy smiles and hums, resting her chin on her hand as she looks out the window ]
Getting a relationship in this place sounds like a pain and a half. Don't we just vanish all of a sudden if these "spirits" decide to give us the boot? That alone already makes relationships impossible, so I'm not holding my breath in finding a man here. 'sides you guys are weird with all your fancy magic. I'm not ready for that.
[ Andy chuckles. She's definitely more into someone who's down-to-earth and has more scientifically explainable abilities. She believes in God and the supernatural, but magic is just something she's still wrapping her head around ]
no subject
[ Konoka's smile faded, but didn't disappear. ]
It's finicky, though. There's some who disappear quickly and there's some, like me, who haven't seen anything else for more than two years. Naturally, you still wanna date and find love despite all that.
Besides, I'm gonna defend magic 'til the end of time. It grants me the power to heal others.
[ She decided not to start talking about hypocrisy like Ted, or she'd wind up spouting too much venom, which wasn't like her. ]
no subject
[ Like little cults and fraternities who look more like they play Magic: The Gathering more than actually playing with real magic. ]
Seen aliens too, and really crazy tech that even folks in Nova City would be amazed at, so I like to keep an open mind. It's just something to get used to, y'know? I knew aliens were real even before we encountered them, just from the sheer likelihood of life outside the planet but actually seeing one? That still took me some time to accept.
[ To be fair, she's only been here for days. It will take time for her to wane through the shock that magic is a normal everyday thing and that other worlds exist. ]
no subject
Yeah, I get it.
[ Konoka sat back down. ]
It actually took me a while to accept magic existed on my home world. See, my parents were part of an old magic family, but I turned out with a lot of innate mana, and my dad worried that people would try to use me for evil stuff, so he kept me oblivious. Backfired quite hard; it probably started when I got into class 3-A and had a mage for a teacher, followed by me getting kidnapped on a field trip. I was very lucky that my friends from that class were equipped to save me.
[ Having good potential helped her dive into it more, too. ]
And even with all that, it took me some time to get used to Genessia.
no subject
Must've been tough. Glad you got through all of that, kidnapping is always rough.
[ She understands despite her short response, giving Konoka
a flash of a sympathetic smile. ]
How long did it take for ya to get used to this place? You got buddies from home?
no subject
There's one person from home! She's kinda a reclusive roommate. There was another I was closer to at home that was here for a while but... she's gone now.
[ Konoka looked a little sad at that. ]
But I promised I'd move on.
no subject
That's the spirit. So what's this business about? Shit, if I actually like this place enough I might look into getting one for myself. Not sure what it's gonna be about though. My main passion is pretty much impossible to do here, which bums me out, no lie.
no subject
Oh, what is your main passion?
[ She couldn’t tell at a glance, or from what she said earlier. ]
My business is a charm shop, though it does all sorts of magical protections. You can cast spells or put up barriers, and maybe even make a cute doll version of yourself to monitor things!
no subject
Right, right.
We as for me, I was in the Air Force. As a fighter pilot.
