PLAYER EVENT: GENESSIA CARNIVAL

Genessia Carnival

The week of the carnival has arrived! With the combined effort of paid workers, volunteers, Azura, and those Azura decided were going to help her (Looking at you Fam), the setup has gone without a hitch. Those who come by the large park in Genessia City during the morning and afternoon of the 16th will see the carnival in various stages of completion. It isn't the sun starts to set and the sky begins to burn the colors of pink and orange with a topping of blue that the lights on the carnival tents and other structures come to life.

THE CARNIVAL IS ON.

It's clear that the carnival takes up almost all of the park; it's setup done so that the rides, attractions, booths and other assorted portions of the carnival are setup around ponds and lakes and take advantage of paths in the park. At the entrance are a myriad of food stalls, while the bigger rides are further in the back. In between are smaller attractions like games, but more importantly this is where all of the booths for the residents are set up. Several rows deep, the offerings here are wildly different and each engaging in its own way. Lastly, the larger attractions of the Carnival are organized in the large central portion of the carnival where a large area has been cleared and sectioned off in 4 large rectangles to house each with plenty of room.

Carnival Fare

  1. Food And Drink - There are so many smells that sometimes your nose might be confused. From the scent of roasting meat, to the smell of sugary sweet cotton candy, the myriad of scents mingle throughout the whole carnival. There's an entire section of picnic tables for carnival goers to take a load off and eat their fill. The admission ticket even paid for complimentary drinks! However, there are plenty of stalls that are offering much more interesting options, including alcohol (for adults only!). Food ranges in price of course, and unfortunately there are a few stalls that might be overpricing their food...

  2. Rides and Attractions - The carnival isn't complete without classic carnival rides. There's a ferris wheel, teacups, several different merry-go-rounds, as well as a SUPER ROMANTIC Tunnel of Love. For the more adventurous there's even a few smaller sized roller coasters as well as an interesting looking magically powered water slide that's powered by a couple of local wizards and a "Doctor". One of the most popular rides seems to be the bumper cars, where each car has the chance to change shape on impact. Lastly for those who are brave enough there's a 2 story haunted house of mirrors full of jump scares and atmospheric music.

  3. Games and Stalls - THIS is where all of those stalls that were signed up for are. Of course, they make up the bulk of stalls, though the ones that are food oriented border the area mentioned earlier. Other booths such as shooting ranges, pingpong ball toss, fortune tellers, toy building booths and even a couple of booths where you can fish up your own little fish pet are here. Careful though, some of these booths are lowkey ripoffs, since they were largely built by volunteers. Should you get scammed it's wise to try and find security rather than handle it yourselves.

Main Attractions

  1. Randomized Plays - These plays are held nightly, but they're not your traditional plays. Participants are chosen from the audience who paid admission! On top of that, the roles are randomly assigned. You never really know what you're going to get, so in the end the plays come out a lot like improv. They're also largely hilarious, unintentionally or otherwise as often the two plays wind up intermingled! Once, Rumtumtugger wound up playing the part of Belle, while Gaston had to do a solo song all on his own... In the end, it'll be up to you what role your character plays, but it's never quite what's expected. Behind the scenes must be a riot no matter what!

  2. Obstacle Course - One attraction at the center of the carnival seems to weave around the other three, and out into the grounds itself. It's a complicated series of obstacles, from a pit of inky, oily water, to slippery bridges and swinging portions that need to be dodged. Portions of the course are even quite vertical, offering a strenuous climb as part of the challenge. This course is not for the faint of heart, and many will find themselves having to give up halfway through, or even being disqualified by being knocked out of the course. Those who choose to work together might make it farther but in the end only one can win. Be prepared for betrayal if you take that route...

  3. Eating Competition - There's not just one eating competition during the week of the carnival. Instead, several are held throughout the week. Hotdogs are first, followed by pancakes, then burgers. After that, towards the final three days of the carnival the bigger competitions start.
    • Hotdogs - how many can you eat in 5 minutes?
    • Pancakes - how many can you eat in 5 minutes?
    • Burgers - how many can you eat in 8 minutes?
    • Whole Chickens - You have 3, can you eat them all in 12 minutes?
    • Whole Turkey - You have an entire turkey, how much can you eat in 10 minutes?
    • 6 Tier Chocolate Cake - Finish the whole cake to win. (Hour Time Limit)
Those who have supernatural abilities are given an extra challenge to make things fair. For those who eat themselves sick there is a medical tent nearby, and of course plenty of room for a crowd of spectators.

  4. Jousting Competition - The colorful, campy and overall cheesy look of this jousting competition almost looks like a childish version of the competition. However, the prizes are real. Instead of the prize for the winning "knight" the winner of each match will be able to earn a fair sum of redbills! It's enough to cover the entry fee paid for the competition and then a couple hundred on top of that. Each participant chooses their weapon, but they all have different strange additional abilities depending on their color...
    • Yellow - sparkles on impact
    • Red - screams upon impact
    • Green - slimes whatever it hits
    • Blue - freezes what it touches for 3 seconds
For this competition special abilities beyond that of a normal human are dampened by special units hidden in the ring. Disabling them would of course, wind up in the participant being disqualified.

[He watches that and seems clearly impressed by the display. Especially if it's not magic as he knows of it, but something else entirely. How fascinating!]

What an impressive ability you have!

[Trunks stays up long enough to make sure things are still okay, and does a quick look-over the rest of the slide, before back to the ground.

Ducking his head a bit at the praise, one hand comes up and brushes a bang out of his eye.]

It's a good example of what I was talking about though. I have a slight advantage in the skill, thanks to my father's heritage, but that's not necessarily magic the way I'm used to thinking of magic or my limited exposure from your world. It's a trainable technique used in Martial Arts, via manipulation of Ki. With the right training and discipline, anyone could learn the basics of it.

How very interesting. I know somewhat of martial arts, though not much, and have never heard of Ki before. If I'm not being intrusive, might I ask how it works?

I won't mind if you don't mind my asking stupid questions about magic.

[Trunks responded with a friendly smile.]

I know the world Martha's from has heard of ki although sometimes she says it has a different name. Chi maybe? It's...

[How to explain, Trunks is still keeping his eyes and most of his focus on the slide. He has a job to do after all. But he'll hold out a hand, palm up and let a small blue ball about the size of a golf ball come to rest in it.]

The simplest explanation is that it's life-force, but it's not just how much life force you have. It's made up of mind, spirit, physical energy, and all the resources you can pull with those forces. It's also all of those things in balance, and manifested as energy. In most martial arts, it's often tied with helping one to fight harder, or go for longer. To allow one seeming super-human feats.

Not at all. Ask me anything you'd like.

[He listens attentively, and looks on with clear delight when Trunks summons the blue aura into his hand.]

I see! And how does one use or access this life force?

When I think of questions, I will. I didn't have as much exposure to it back in my world, except in the hands of our universe' Kai. Mostly in training to stop an evil-wizard from reviving a threat to said universe.

[Trunks will hold his hand and the ball of ki up closer for Dumbledore to see. It's not simply an aura, it's actual energy. Faintly hot, swirling, and bright.]

Training. Again, it's usually done via Martial Arts, and starts by being aware of one's senses and how one's own body and mind and energy work.

[His tone went slightly softer, mostly because he wasn't trying to brag but more inform.]

My father was an alien-race, and his people have an advantage in learning to manipulate and use Ki, but humans can do it too. Other aliens were even more adept at it.

Ah, so it comes through a sort of meditation, then? Or at the very least, a deep introspection into one's self. Very interesting.

What race is your father, may I ask?

Meditation is a large part of it, but I'm also not used to approaching it without also viewing it through a Martial Artist's lens. I'm learning a bit to not do so with Martha, but it's tricky since I learned young. It helps that she's familiar with the idea from her world too.

[There is a pause, mostly because Trunks is still watching the water-slide. Focusing on that, as there's another wild-rider, and letting the small ki ball dissipate. But the rider while shrieking in glee doesn't go airborne thankfully.

Which means he can give Dumbledore part of his attention.]

Alien race known as a "saiyan". Humanoid with likely a common primate-ancestral type being too. They're a warrior race though--best for battle and surviving. Also where I'm from, I'm pretty much the last with any of their blood. At least in my time.

[Reaching up and brushing at the back of his neck sheepishly.]

There's alternate dimensions involved--my life is a bit complicated.

Ah, I don't believe I've met anyone named Martha. But it's very curious and interesting that such systems of being can exist across worlds.

[He watches the rider slide down as well, paying attention as they go down happily and without incident.]

Ah, but so there are alternate worlds where you are from before you were brought here? That is something I wasn't aware was possible outside of this place.

Martha Jones. She's working at Genessia Hospital now. We're both from Earth, just from different Earths--so there are some things that are common, and then things that are different. The same as with your Earth probably. Some differences, some similarities or even out right things that are the same.

If you want later, I'll make you a flow-chart. How familiar are you with Quantum Physics and Dimensional theory? Or...is that something Wizards don't really deal with.

[That latter trailed off slightly sheepishly, as Trunks really isn't sure. He's not sure--from what little he knows, if the world Dumbledore is from has normal physics.]

A flowchart would be quite helpful, actually. I admit, I have passing knowledge of Muggle sciences and theories, but they are not something we encounter much among the wizarding world. Our studies are usually separate from that of the non-magical world.

Huh...

[Trunks was quiet, both to focus on the water slide but also letting his brain mull that over. ]

You're...from the same world Mr. Grindelwald is, right? Knowing that the societies are kept separate explains a lot.

[Offered with a hint of hesitation--mostly because Trunks was hesitant to bring it up. But if they were, it helped to know.]

Fear seems to be at the root of the problems, but he can't seem to see that more fear isn't the answer.

[Dumbledore's expression doesn't change, though that certainly does add a more serious tone to the conversation. Both at the subject matter and at Gellert's views on it.]

That I am. [Though he won't elaborate further.] ...he isn't wrong about some of the things that anger him, but he believes that any extreme means undertaken to fix them are worthwhile.

From our discussions

[And that is putting it rather well, considering that for all the passion they've been remarkably civil conversations]

He seems to believe he can be a benevolent overlord. But doing it the way he wants is only going to breed fear and resentment, and anger--and he'll never stop having uprisings. Which will give lie to his 'benevolent' front. Not to mention he doesn't seem to realize or consider what will happen when someone stronger than him comes along.

[Reaching up, Trunks brushes a bang out of his eyes, and lets his gaze find Dumbledore.]

I'm sorry, for bringing up a sore subject. But thank you for talking about it with me anyways. I can't help but think if there was more understanding between the two communities, then there wouldn't BE as much fear and persecution.

It's quite all right. Believe me, I agree that more understanding would ease things, and that it's the only way to truly end these tensions. Though I know that that is, on its own, quite an undertaking.

[His expression is very, very carefully neutral as he starts to mention Gellert, almost to the point of placidity.]

He is, I think, overly confident in his own skills. And he is skilled, very much so. He's one of the brightest wizards alive. But that isn't enough, not when his approach is so rife with fear and destruction.

I agree. He doesn't seem prepared for what happens if someone is better than him. Or what'll happen if he isn't in charge. There's just...so...much.....

[There's a shrug, and it's clear Trunks is frustrated.]

I've seen what happens when brilliant people turn to hatred and let it consume them. I don't want it to happen again.

[Sad, honest, and then he's taking an obvious breath, and offering a small apologetic smile.]

I'm sorry for raising a difficult topic.
