PLAYER EVENT: GENESSIA CARNIVAL

Genessia Carnival

The week of the carnival has arrived! With the combined effort of paid workers, volunteers, Azura, and those Azura decided were going to help her (Looking at you Fam), the setup has gone without a hitch. Those who come by the large park in Genessia City during the morning and afternoon of the 16th will see the carnival in various stages of completion. It isn't the sun starts to set and the sky begins to burn the colors of pink and orange with a topping of blue that the lights on the carnival tents and other structures come to life.

THE CARNIVAL IS ON.

It's clear that the carnival takes up almost all of the park; it's setup done so that the rides, attractions, booths and other assorted portions of the carnival are setup around ponds and lakes and take advantage of paths in the park. At the entrance are a myriad of food stalls, while the bigger rides are further in the back. In between are smaller attractions like games, but more importantly this is where all of the booths for the residents are set up. Several rows deep, the offerings here are wildly different and each engaging in its own way. Lastly, the larger attractions of the Carnival are organized in the large central portion of the carnival where a large area has been cleared and sectioned off in 4 large rectangles to house each with plenty of room.

Carnival Fare

  1. Food And Drink - There are so many smells that sometimes your nose might be confused. From the scent of roasting meat, to the smell of sugary sweet cotton candy, the myriad of scents mingle throughout the whole carnival. There's an entire section of picnic tables for carnival goers to take a load off and eat their fill. The admission ticket even paid for complimentary drinks! However, there are plenty of stalls that are offering much more interesting options, including alcohol (for adults only!). Food ranges in price of course, and unfortunately there are a few stalls that might be overpricing their food...

  2. Rides and Attractions - The carnival isn't complete without classic carnival rides. There's a ferris wheel, teacups, several different merry-go-rounds, as well as a SUPER ROMANTIC Tunnel of Love. For the more adventurous there's even a few smaller sized roller coasters as well as an interesting looking magically powered water slide that's powered by a couple of local wizards and a "Doctor". One of the most popular rides seems to be the bumper cars, where each car has the chance to change shape on impact. Lastly for those who are brave enough there's a 2 story haunted house of mirrors full of jump scares and atmospheric music.

  3. Games and Stalls - THIS is where all of those stalls that were signed up for are. Of course, they make up the bulk of stalls, though the ones that are food oriented border the area mentioned earlier. Other booths such as shooting ranges, pingpong ball toss, fortune tellers, toy building booths and even a couple of booths where you can fish up your own little fish pet are here. Careful though, some of these booths are lowkey ripoffs, since they were largely built by volunteers. Should you get scammed it's wise to try and find security rather than handle it yourselves.

Main Attractions

  1. Randomized Plays - These plays are held nightly, but they're not your traditional plays. Participants are chosen from the audience who paid admission! On top of that, the roles are randomly assigned. You never really know what you're going to get, so in the end the plays come out a lot like improv. They're also largely hilarious, unintentionally or otherwise as often the two plays wind up intermingled! Once, Rumtumtugger wound up playing the part of Belle, while Gaston had to do a solo song all on his own... In the end, it'll be up to you what role your character plays, but it's never quite what's expected. Behind the scenes must be a riot no matter what!

  2. Obstacle Course - One attraction at the center of the carnival seems to weave around the other three, and out into the grounds itself. It's a complicated series of obstacles, from a pit of inky, oily water, to slippery bridges and swinging portions that need to be dodged. Portions of the course are even quite vertical, offering a strenuous climb as part of the challenge. This course is not for the faint of heart, and many will find themselves having to give up halfway through, or even being disqualified by being knocked out of the course. Those who choose to work together might make it farther but in the end only one can win. Be prepared for betrayal if you take that route...

  3. Eating Competition - There's not just one eating competition during the week of the carnival. Instead, several are held throughout the week. Hotdogs are first, followed by pancakes, then burgers. After that, towards the final three days of the carnival the bigger competitions start.
    • Hotdogs - how many can you eat in 5 minutes?
    • Pancakes - how many can you eat in 5 minutes?
    • Burgers - how many can you eat in 8 minutes?
    • Whole Chickens - You have 3, can you eat them all in 12 minutes?
    • Whole Turkey - You have an entire turkey, how much can you eat in 10 minutes?
    • 6 Tier Chocolate Cake - Finish the whole cake to win. (Hour Time Limit)
Those who have supernatural abilities are given an extra challenge to make things fair. For those who eat themselves sick there is a medical tent nearby, and of course plenty of room for a crowd of spectators.

  4. Jousting Competition - The colorful, campy and overall cheesy look of this jousting competition almost looks like a childish version of the competition. However, the prizes are real. Instead of the prize for the winning "knight" the winner of each match will be able to earn a fair sum of redbills! It's enough to cover the entry fee paid for the competition and then a couple hundred on top of that. Each participant chooses their weapon, but they all have different strange additional abilities depending on their color...
    • Yellow - sparkles on impact
    • Red - screams upon impact
    • Green - slimes whatever it hits
    • Blue - freezes what it touches for 3 seconds
For this competition special abilities beyond that of a normal human are dampened by special units hidden in the ring. Disabling them would of course, wind up in the participant being disqualified.

I will make it a challenge. Will probably need people to test out fabrics though when I have done it.

[He smiled slightly.]

I actually went to watch that tournament... never been to one before but had to cheer for a friend, didn't I?

What did you think?

[She's curious, especially considering that she knows Kaoru is from a universe where superpowered beings only exist in fiction.]

It was my first time participating in a tournament. I watched family and friends participating in the annual world tournament growing up, but I never bothered to enter myself.

It was... interesting. Unreal probably another word. Not sure what I was honestly expecting.

[So trying to find the right wording was not the easiest thing for him to do.]

I guess overall it was fun to watch. [He couldn't help but laugh for a moment.]

I wouldn't have guessed that was your first time.

I had good teachers. I just wasn't really that interested in competing growing up. I was happy enough to cheer everyone else on instead.

[Really, it had only been in her time away from home that she'd developed any real interest in training. In a military school, it made sense to apply herself, and once it became a form of socializing, she'd enjoyed it more.]

Trunks has been training me here.

[Considering the family resemblance and having the same last name, it was probably pretty easy to pick out Bulla's big brother in the crowd.]

I guess situations changing make one consider things they might never have thought of before. Like here I wasn't thinking about work or what my future would be exactly until I was thrown into a situation where I had no choice but to think about it.

[He wasn't sure how well he was dealing with it, but he at least he had been trying the whole time through the good and bad of it.]

Trunks... if I remember he was another on in the competition...If I remember correctly. [he was going to pause for a moment or two at least.]

Is he someone related?

Places like this do force people to be adaptable. I think you've done pretty well!

[He's made a lot of progress in the time that she's known him, going from not knowing how to prepare his own food to starting up a business. It's a big leap in terms of self-sufficiency.]

He was in the competition. He's my older brother, although the situation's a bit weird. He's from an alternate timeline where I was never born. It didn't take him long to get used to being a big brother here, though.

Ah... thanks.

[He couldn't help but smile slightly, but it didn't take just as long to get a little bit baffled.]

An...alternate timeline? That's an actual thing that exists beyond stories?

Yes it is. Technically if you think about it, it's not that much stranger than this world pulling people from different points in time from their own worlds.

[Or at least that's how she sees it. Bulla's got a very high threshold of weird thanks to the world she grew up in and then having prior multiverse experience.]

I've learned that stuff that's real where I come from is just made up in other worlds. Did I ever tell you that I'm only half-human?

[She knows it's come up in public conversations before, but that doesn't mean Kaoru was necessarily paying attention to the network at the time.]

[personal profile] devilishkaoru 2018-10-08 12:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess so.

[And he was at least aware of one of his friends being from before his point. So he had some understanding of it. But it was still very much strange to think about.]

No, but I wouldn't have guessed it either.

Saiyans are a warrior race from a planet that has gravity ten times what Earth's is. They look mostly human. I got the powers and huge appetite from my dad. Mom's where I got my fashion sense from.

[Her father's far less concerned with such things, although he's appearance conscious enough to listen to her when she tells him something looks bad.]

[personal profile] devilishkaoru 2018-10-11 08:36 am (UTC)(link)
[Kaoru paused for a moment. He was listening and was trying to at least learn about others and what was in other worlds, but even so, it really was strange regardless.]

So in a way you got a perfect balance?

[personal profile] fashionably_strong 2018-10-12 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
[She has to give Kaoru credit for handling this really well for someone from a world where people don't have powers or non-human visitors walking about in plain sight.]

I don't know about perfect, but a good combination for sure. One that lets me really unpleasantly surprise would-be purse thieves.
devilishkaoru: (66)

[personal profile] devilishkaoru 2018-10-12 12:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sure there would be plenty of surprised looks from thieves when you defend yourself.

[Because he was pretty sure there would be people who would underestimate someone like that. Kaoru was pretty much someone they could take advantage of.]

But honestly...thieves here should really know by now odds are there are strong people about. Even I know that much at this point.

The air conditioner thief sure got a nasty surprise when I caught him along with Trunks and our friend Mai.

[Although going on bounties isn't normally her thing, stealing people's AC during a heatwave just seemed cruel. She has fond memories of this bounty. It was a good bonding experience.]

Just picture girly little me suddenly grabbing the thief and then using a suplex on him.

[Giggling, she mimics an approximation of the move so Kaoru can fully appreciate how silly it was.]
devilishkaoru: (79)

[personal profile] devilishkaoru 2018-10-15 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[He couldn't help but laugh slightly, he could picture the look on the guy's face and it was amusing beyond belief.]

I can picture it. I'm sure it was a thing of beauty, the guys face. I assume you didn't have to knock him out or anything, right?
fashionably_strong: (hairflip)

[personal profile] fashionably_strong 2018-10-19 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
No. The suplex was enough to daze him, and I think he realized trying to run from us would be stupid. The last time I knocked someone out outside of the tournament was this jerk who tried stealing a purse from a lady who was disoriented and needed a doctor.

[She shakes her head. That had been on the other world with the military school, but it was a memorable incident.]

I hope he had the mother of all headaches when he woke up.
devilishkaoru: (01)

[personal profile] devilishkaoru 2018-10-20 10:08 am (UTC)(link)
That's the worst kind of criminal. The extremely dumb one.

[He nodded slightly.

I am sure he did. Probably lasted a while.
