Halloween Ball

WHO: Everyone!
WHAT: It's time for the Halloween ball! Get together for socializing, dancing, drinks, and flaunting your costumes.
WHEN: October 29th, 2014 - Evening
WHERE: Grand Hall, Genessia City
SOUNDTRACK: What a coincidence, the DJ likes the same music that I do. Put it on shuffle and enjoy!

The Grand Hall was decked out in fake spiderwebs stretched in the corners of doorways, and tiny plastic bats hanging from the ceiling. Stacks of jack-o'-lanterns glowed eerily in several displays, each one carved with a different face. To the right, the ballroom had a fog machine pumping white mist over the feet of the dancers while the DJ queued up a variety of songs, some for dancing, some for Halloween, some for both. There was a table with punch and water to keep dancers hydrated, and a number of spooky snacks like spiderweb cupcakes and pumpkin-shaped cuts of cheese and ham for crackers. ...If you weren't sick of cheese already.

Out in the foyer were similar tables of snacks and drinks, but there were games and activities too, such as a big washbasin filled with water and apples, a table for carving pumpkins, and a couple of fat jack-o'-lantern pinatas stuffed with candies.

Perhaps, it is.

[ It's easier to concede. He could understand why the Child Labor Laws in Japan might seem extreme to those from other cultures. He'd rather enjoy childhood for as long as possible.]

It's providing a more educated work force.

That should be up to the person whose life it is. Providing the option is different than requiring it.
nrgsvr: (huh?)

There's no minimum education requirement where you're from?

[ A middle school education is not much]

Of course there is. But after you turn 16, you can choose what type of school you want to go to or if you want to work. If we all were forced to stay in school for something that we don't need, we would never reach the skill level we need to in order to protect the people within our kingdoms.

So, it's not that different. Compulsory schooling ends at 15, with similar options.

Most people choose high school afterwards, which ends at 18.

There are no restrictions of the jobs people under 16 can have?

whiteas: (Much clap. Very enthuse. So Weiss.)

Obviously if someone's fresh out of school, they can't be a doctor or something that requires extra training. If someone is qualified for a job from their skill set, they can do it. If you're not, then they can go into further education for the field they're interested in. Before that point, however, basic education is required. Most children don't work if they live within the kingdoms, but outside of that the councils have no jurisdiction so anyone could do anything.

There are a few people who live outside of the kingdoms, but they aren't places with high survival rates. Even if we wanted to check in on them, as long as they're outside the kingdoms, they're on their own.
