WHERE: The Castle Royale Hotel, Genessia City.

The event space in the Castle Royale Hotel in Genessia City was decorated for this event. Pink hearts and other decorations were tastefully hung and placed all over the place to help people get into that romantic type of mood. It took quite a while to decorate it all, but it would take less time to get it all down once the event was over.

Just approaching the hotel, you would be able to hear the sound of music faintly playing. The event would have been awkward if there wasn’t any DJ at all to play music to get people in the dancing sort of mood. The DJ has their little area set up so he could entertain the guests with various genres of music. Some slow, some fast, some in-between. But the one thing it has in common is it is all something you can dance to.

The event officially starts at 5PM, but the doors themselves open at 4PM. Though at that time, things are still being set up, but you won't be asked to leave if you decide to sit around and wait for it to start.

Don't bid more in the auction than your character would plausibly have. For instance, if they don't have a job, they can't bid 10,000 redbills. Bidding should be done within their actual means.

[Anastasia slowly reacts, picking her head up off her arms to look to see who said her name.]

"....Miss...Kiryuin...? Long time no see..."

"That it has," she agrees. "Life has thrown a number of unexpected things my way. This evening included." her expression thoughtful for a moment before returning to it's usual neutral state. She's trying not to frown. "You appear to be having a.. strenuous evening."

"A strenuous month in general, Miss Kiryuin..."

[Anastasia gestures to a seat beside her, offering Satsuki to sit with her and perhaps listen to her woes.]

I stand corrected.

[Satsuki nods takes the offered seat. She isn't certain of how much help she can be, but.. She does like Anastasia and figures there may not be much harm in trying.]

Would you like to talk about it?

[She will try to keep it short and to the point.]

"First, a dear friend, Mamoru, disappeared. Gone back to his world. He swore to protect me and was almost always there for me. And now he's gone.

Then, something that happened earlier tonight..."

[She hesitated on this one because of how absurd it was.]

"...I was asked out...by a tree-shaped pokemon... The first boy to ever ask me out, and it was a tree pokemon..."

Losing someone close to you; it is a very painful experience. I am sorry to hear that happened to you.

[She can't say she expected the second part. That.. Is certainly a new one. What.. What should she even say?]

A.. pokemon. [Beat. Hooboy.] Have you thought maybe it was just trying to cheer you up? It is not unheard of for animals to sense when others are feeling down.

[Anastasia feels like Mamoru's disappearance proved what she already knew: Boys are simply too difficult. She moved on to what she experienced with the pokemon.]

"No... I don't think so. It was waving a red bill at me. After Sylvia explained with her feelers, it was apparent it was mimicking that dating auction thing..."

[Satsuki's brows furrow. She's.. Not really sure what to make of that really. Pokémon are truly odd creatures.]

Hmn. If it is any consolation, a dating auction is an entirely different experience from actually being asked out. For example, let us suppose it was an actual boy then approached you with a handful of money and asked you to go out with them.

What might you take from that?

[Anastasia actually knows something of this. A private mother-daughter lesson.]

"...My mother says that girls who trade companionship for money are 'Soiled Doves."

[She had not realized that until now. But she missed the whole context of the auction.]

[ .. Oh dear. Well, that was not the answer she was expecting but, it's workable. Still, that is extra messed up when applied to a pokemon.]

[Satsuki is stunned for a moment.]

Well.. That.. In that particular scenario, yes. (?) So, you could say that is wildly different from being confessed to.

[At least she wasn't wrong. All though, now she looks hopeless lost when the mention of confessions comes up.]

"I... I'm confused now. What exactly are we talking about...?"

[Satsuki seems hesitant to answer right away, but she certainly doesn't want Anastasia to feel embarrassed. It's true that try don't speak very much but she holds no pride in intimidating kids.]

It appears I have misunderstood your situation. I was under the impression that you were upset that your first time being asked out was by a pokemon. In my culture, that would imply the desire to date, so I wished to clarify that its actions would not 'count' as a confession, per say.

My apologies, I should have asked for clarification on your feelings before speaking my piece.

"W-well, yeah... I am upset about that. I'm just confused is all."

[Anastasia crossed her arms on the table and rests her head on her arms.]

"Dating has a lot of weight, though... A desire to bond which can lead to marriage. In my country, there is more to courtship than merely dating..."

Hmn.

[Another nod.]

That makes sense. But what are the specifics in your culture?

[Anastasia nodded, getting ready to give details on one of her kingdom's most popular tradition.]

"...When a boy and a girl are ready for marriage, the boy would ask for permission and blessing from the girl's parents. Her parents will give the boyfriend a set of 'Courtship Trials,' where he is given a test of strength and wisdom to prove he is more than ready, willing and able to carry out his role as a husband and a father."

[She took a breath.]

"The tests are never harrowing. If the boyfriend fails, he is free to try again at any time."

[As Satsuki listens, she nods and can't help but be reminded of a tale from Japanese folklore.]

Interesting. I confess I do find some.. Charm to that, even in modern times.

And this applies for Royalty? Or is it that in those circumstances only princes could accept such challenges?

"It applies to everyone. Royalty and commoners."

[She paused, as if remembering something she would be happier without.]

"However, royal trials might be a lot harder. And there are rumors of royal exceptions... I once heard a rumor that I would be given away to a foreign leader if I don't find someone my dad approves of..."

I had suspected royalty would at least pose a greater difficulty than the norm. I am unfamiliar with your world's politics but it.. Does sound plausible.

[Satsuki frowns a bit.]

At what age must you be wed? And how do you feel about such a rumor; is it good? Bad?

"16 years is the set minimum for girls. I do not have to wed at that age, I just need someone who made a promise."

[Now she's starting to look rather angry when she thinks about the subject in the rumor.]

"And... It's bad. Very, very bad. It is literally impossible for me to list out the differences between our two nations."

I see, so there is great tension between the nations. That certainly answers that.

[There are certainly details that she's missing, so it's difficult for her to fully agree. On the other hand, there are plenty examples of a renegade performing acts for the better. Does she want to tip that scale? It.. Probably isn't any of her business, really, but she'll keep the thought in mind.]

Ignoring that for a moment, are you interested in being promised? What is your ideal scenario?

[Anastasia quickly tries to hide her face, which was turning red as she blushes. Clearly, she had someone on mind.]

"D-do I want to be promised to? To be courted? I do... I really do... My ideal partner, well... His name is Noah. He's my guard. He made a lot of effort to become my friend, and introduced me to his sister who is my age. He's strong, noble, caring, and...and..."

[There is more, but she didn't want to get carried away.]

[Well. That's adorable. Satsuki ever so slightly raises a brow for just a moment, apparently having never gushed about someone before herself.]

He sounds like quite the gentleman; have you considered taking steps toward subduing him when you can?

[Maybe not the greatest choice of words, Satsuki.]

"...Sub...duing him...?"

[She doesn't get the wrong idea, but having someone like him as a guard is what show cased her lack of leadership resolve. Something she really needs to work on.]

"N-No... He is very professional... ...most of the time."

Hmn. Perhaps that is a conversation best saved for a later date.

[Oops. Well... Satsuki probably shouldn't clarify on that, so.. She'll just go ahead and steer the subject in another direction.]

If I could, I would like to talk a moment about the suggestion of 'being given away to a foreign leader' that you spoke of before. If there is tension between nations, then how did such a rumor come to be?

"I don't know... and it is very illogical. I understand the concept of diplomatic marriages, but the way my people are, it is ultimately pointless."

[And she can think of at least three reasons why its pointless at the top of her head.]
