gastronomics: (jk i made that last one up)

[ The video starts on a single glass:

It's set on a counter next to a sink. ]

Caramelized bacon with crystallized egg yolk, to end on a dessert note of anti-griddle-frosted mango sabayon. It's good but..

[ It's not good enough. She sounds disappointed in herself. Her hand comes and slowly pushes the glass of breakfast into the sink, where it goes to waste. She goes slow enough that it almost looks like a tragedy when the perfectly crisp bacon hits the sink and breaks in its fragility, the mango sabayon tripping down the sink slowly like the spilled blood of breakfasts in some kind of breakfast war. ]

Everyone's worlds have so much more to offer in advancing my cooking and I haven't taken enough advantage. Tell me about your world's cuisine, please! In particular, breakfast. We'll worry about the other meals later, one step at a time.

[Of course, she gets to do all the cooking stuff while he's on the phone making arrangements for their upcoming project. Very fair, Alice.]

[Are you serious, Alice. If he doesn't make the arrangements, they don't get done in a timely manner. He continues to talk on the phone while she prods him, trying to push through it to get this done.]

I'm from a real basic Earth with real basic stuff. So, not much help there.

[ Ayame is chillin' at a coffee shop when she sees this video in the net. Watching the depressed Alice throw away the perfectly looking sabayon almost made her gasp. And that poor bacon... ]

Hello again. I assume you're from a planet Earth? If so, I have little knowledge of new cuisines to offer you. Cooking is something I'm new at. However, a subarchway left behind by my colleague does offer a variety of Earth-based foods, particularly Emirati cuisine.

[ She's had food from different universes, but sadly she doesn't think she's good enough to describe them with words. She just ate them. ]

[ Ayame takes a moment to ponder and recall the limited amount of Emirati foods she had the chance to eat. She mostly stuck to one dish in particular, since she wasn't as adventurous before than she is here in Genessia. ]

I can only recall having one kind of local breakfast dish there, which is essentially just a version of pancakes called a chebab. If I remember correctly, the ones I've had in a particular restaurant added saffron, rose water, and cardamom into the flour. Date syrup and sesame seeds are added as the final touch.

[ Thinking back about it just made her hungry again. Ayame sighs quietly, feeling a tinge of regret that she didn't try more of the local stuff when she had the chance ]

The dish I had the most is the kabsa. Simply put, it's a dish with slow-cooked meat on top of rice and mixed with a variety of spices. The meats range from chicken, beef, fish, goat, and even camel which I've had. It's quite delicious. The way they cook meat in a clay pit oven dug on the ground is something I haven't seen before as well.

[Gee, that looked novel! And such strange and interesting words, too. He'll have to look up what "anti-griddle-frosted" means.

And down the drain it goes, falling just as fast as his expression. Alas, poor breakfast-drink-thing, killed before your providence.]

Goodness, was it as bad as all that? Was there no means to give it to someone who'd have enjoyed it regardless of imperfections?

I must admit that looked better than what I could come up with.

[And considering he has a cafe, he did limit himself on what he could cook, which was mostly desserts.]

Well different kinds of foods as well. You do more variety, whereas I just do desserts.

[He is tempted to just see how creative he can be though when he was the time and has nothing else to do.]

Though I do wonder how do you come up with ideas?

Wha...?

[She can't deny that Jeb would make it taste delicious, though. Maybe even delicious enough for this woman's standards -- but she doesn't voice this. ...right. She should probably something else.]

My world's breakfast is pretty simple, you know? Eggs made in different ways, hashbrowns, pancakes, waffles, bacon, sausage, toast, English muffins, that kind of good stuff. [But... hm.] Hey, have you ever heard of a breakfast pizza?
gundesign: (can't help but get cocky)

[personal profile] gundesign 2017-03-09 03:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, more or less. [She laughs.] But hey, can you blame me? I'm from Massachusetts! You don't get much more American than that, you know?

[Well, she's from a Massachusetts, at least. Tori's sure that with each varying version of Earth-- the US in particular-- there's differences. ...maybe she should find out sometime.]

I understand not wanting to serve a dish before it's been perfected. I hope you'll keep the presentation, at least, it looks delicious.

I'll stop by, for this or other of your creations.

[What even is that? Human food is strange.]

Back home we have something called Pulan Toast. It's similar to your French Toast from what I've been told.

It's... uh. Huh. I don't know how it's made. I've never actually cooked the dish myself. The chef aboard the Normandy would serve it whenever he made French toast for the crew. I can't eat French toast - it's levo - so I can only tell you what I've been told. Which is that it's like French toast but not nearly as good.

Sorry, it's all I've got.

Okay but that "one man's trash is another man's treasure" saying thing totally applies to everything you cook because even your shitty food is like four thousand times better than grandma's best. Like to the average person that was like watching someone pour money down a garbage disposal. It was a greek tragedy.
