2017 Winter Holiday Party!
WHO: OPEN TO ALL!
WHAT: Holiday party! Date auction! Shenanigans.
WHEN: December 15th, 2017 - Evening
WHERE: Fairy Tale HQ - Fayren
NOTES: The auction and the kissing contest are time sensitive! Bids close and the last kiss will be accepted on Friday, December 22nd, at midnight PST!
Fayren didn't have electricity, but it had something even better.
MAGIC!
There were twinkling colored lights that burned, flickered, and floated in an ethereal way, enchanting the building in a way that fluorescent lights never could. Branches of evergreen were hung here and there to give the air a fresh pine scent. There were also pinecones doused with cinnamon and nutmeg near the doorways.
Except near the kitchens, because the food smells were more than enough to entice the senses. There were mini-sausages swimming in a thick and spicy sauce, sweet and tangy meatballs on toothpicks, vegetables and dip, bite-sized cream puffs, iced sugar cookies, cheese and crackers, mulled cider, and eggnog in alcoholic and non-alcoholic varieties.
The main room, expansive as it was, had plenty of room for music, dancing, and mingling. There were some tables and several chairs set up, and a small stage where musicians were welcome to perform to their heart's content. To the side was an even smaller stage where a sprig of mistletoe was suspended on a loop of scarlet ribbon, with a sign that reads: "Test Your Passion! Win This Arcade Game!" And next to that was a full-sized arcade game version of Alley Brawlers. Might be worth checking out!
But there were more games than that, and more than a few maps set up on easels of the headquarters and where to go to play certain games. A single lane bowling alley (with manual set-up of the pins), a "fishing" booth where people toss a clothespin on a fishing line over a curtain to have a little prize attached by someone hidden on the other side, a ring toss for cans of soda, a cake walk (with full-sized cakes for the winners and cupcakes for the losers), ornament decorating, pin-the-tail-on-the-unicorn, face painting, a pool of rubber ducks with numbers corresponding to prizes on the bottom, goldfish scooping... Almost anything one would find at a carnival was sure to be found here.
As for the auction? Step right up, right past the gauzy white curtains into a big room lit with twinkling golden lights. Anyone was welcome to come in, but if someone wanted to participate as a bidder, they'd have to make a donation at the door. In return, each donor would receive a packet of 100 red tickets with the same number assigned to the bidder name: one roll of tickets with 101 for the first donor, a roll of tickets with 102 for the second donor, and so on.
Cookies and punch were available in this room, with several tables and chairs set up before a large stage with a microphone. Along the wall was a line of clear plastic boxes, with slots on top, set in front of each auction date's face. A card that indicated the name of each person, their age, and a brief description of what they were all about was pasted onto the front of the boxes. People were welcome to look at the line-up if they wanted, or even use some of their tickets prematurely if they wanted, as they were clearly for a drawing. Until the auction starts, soft piano music plays from a stereo running on batteries.

Rose Tyler | OTA
[There is no right way.]
[She wants to run and hide behind 12.]
[She would do the fishing, but now she's a little too freaked out.]
[Anyone calling her name will just get a startled squeak in response. And dancing is just going to have to wait until her head is screwed back on properly.]
[Except for Patchouli. At least she'd been in control there. ??? Somehow????]
Re: Rose Tyler | OTA
Hi.
[A pause]
You know - I didn't put myself up for auction. Sarah thought it would be amusing.
Re: Rose Tyler | OTA
I mean, I'm sure you'd rather...
[Glances away and frowns. Now What? If she says he'd rather be with Martha or Jack... what does she do? Isn't that pushing him towards them? She promised not to and just because he didn't remember her promise didn't mean she hadn't made it.]
[She rocks on her heels before looking back and smiling uncertainly.] I mean, it's not like we've never gone on dates before, yeah?
[Except... not since she got lost to Pete's Universe. Not since she told him she loved him. Not since being in this place. Not since shagging, since he shagged Jack, and Martha, and forgot huge chunks of his memories.]
[Maybe she's just making too much of this. It's probably not any bigger deal than her going on a date with Kirk.]
[Just...]
[Can't take him to the guildhall or she'll be definitely tempted to let Mirajane custard pie his face and he wouldn't even know why.]
[Internally she wants to cry. Stupid stupid stupid stupid...]
Re: Rose Tyler | OTA
[He does look stressed about the entire situation of having been put up on auction. He never thought it would be unwanted attention]
Well - it's been since we've gotten chips... But that was with the me before ... this face.
[Then gently takes her hand]
1/2
[No need to point out things usually did with them; they already were.]
[She's torn between trying to hang onto anger or not. Use that anger as a shield. It was this face who was dating Martha, his only chance for that, she'd never take that from him. It was this face who was trying to make up for Jack. For not going back to him all the times he needed him.]
2/3 my bad
[It kills her. More than anything. More than everything. She's never dropped his hand before. From the first time he rescued her, to the vacuum of the void pulling her in, she's always tried to hold on. Facing Davros, and even when he left her, on the same beach, Meta grabbed her hand. Her hand twitches, wanting to grab his hand again. Wanting to run.]
[Just him and her.]
[Which they weren't anymore.]
[And shouldn't be.]
[She's frustrated.]
[She knows he loves her. But it wasn't enough.]
[How did she make it clear it wasn't a choice between her and everyone else? It just wasn't a choice. She wouldn't let him make it. Her life. She'd do her thing.]
[She's so frustrated.]
[She was working so hard for everyone else, and -- it didn't matter. The universe wasn't fair. Multiverse neither.]
[She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, still giving him the tight grin, trying to reassuring in spite of it all.]
I --
[The nothing but impulsiveness side wanted to diffuse it all, to crack a joke about how they should enter the snogging contest, they would definitely win.]
[As if that wouldn't send him exactly all the wrong signals!!!!]
[This.]
[THIS EXACTLY; was the problem!!]
[It would be so easy for her to just--]
[Do whatever she wanted. And hurt everyone she cared about.]
[So she was hurting him. Which hurt everyone.]
I. Um. I won dates with Captain Kirk and Patchouli too. Um.
[She pulled her scarf up.] So it's not. You know... anything serious. If you don't want it to be. [Even if he did want it to be.]
3/3
[Her hands ball up in frustrated fists.]
[She's turning into him. Lying through her teeth to his face with her words. I'm always fine. Trying to take all the pain and self-sacrifice onto herself. Like when he walked away.]
[She wants to feral growl and fight herself. She wished someone could stop her. What was she doing now? Imploding instead of exploding? Was this really helping? And yet running away hadn't worked either.]
[What other option was there? Surrender?]
[Rose wanted to say she could do that, to try to just do anything to stop the fighting. But she didn't know how. What it would mean doing here. Go with the flow? She was trying, and she still felt like she was drowning! Well, no, she wasn't really going with the flow, so much as fighting against the currents. Going with the flow would be what? Being like Jack and Martha? Except wouldn't that hurt everyone else?]
[She grabbed his tie, and sharply yanked him outside, growling low and darkly in his ear:]
We need to talk.
no subject
The point is - they have both have the best and Rose dating those other two - they're not going to replace him.
He was going to say; whatever she wants it to be but looks confused when his hand is dropped and she grabs him by the tie]
no subject
["I love you," "I can't do this anymore" "I can't fight this gravity between us!"]
[She could hurt him, break his heart, and then what? No one would be happy with that, and she'd hate herself even more, and he'd hate himself for letting her do it.]
[She closes her eyes, wanting to cry, trying to fight it.]
[Jack, Martha, River Song, Amy, Sarah Jane...]
Remember outside the school, with Sarah Jane? When you said the Curse of the TimeLords was -- [She moved to hold a finger over his lips.] Don't speak. Not yet.
[Deep breath. If she doesn't get through this, she never will.]
Jack... obviously I didn't know what I did to him. How could I have?
[When he never told her. When he took her away and separated her from her mistakes. Of course it'd always seemed easy. They were always trying to make it that way for each other. Like him and Reinette. If he wanted to run off with her...]
[Rose closed her eyes again, unable to stop the tears, but at least they weren't as severe.]
It's too easy for me to hurt... others.... And I get it. I know you get it. But you don't...
[If she says she hadn't meant to win him, she hurts him. She couldn't be upset with Martha and Jack for not being there, but that was the whole problem. The whole problem.]
[She flung herself around him in a tight hug, breathing him in, and trying not to cry.]
[There was only him. And thus it was too easy for her to try to make it only her. But she didn't want that.]
[She steeled herself hard, spun around, and squared off with him, holding his shoulders against the wall.]
[Jack. Martha. River Song.]
[Gods she missed Meta. She'd barely had an hour with him and it wasn't enough. Not enough to know all his differences between this Doctor and him. To know him as himself.]
[Did she want to seal herself away waiting for him?]
[No, and she'd never forgive him if he'd done the same for her.]
[So why then did it frustrate her to no end that the Doctor had moved on without her?!]
I waited for you. I fought my way back to you. I never even held anyone else's hand. And I didn't do it for you. I didn't do it for me either. I did it for them, because it wasn't fair of them to never get my best. To always have so much of me missing and wanting to be someplace else.
It's too easy for me to throw everything I have into being with you. I don't even know any other way yet.
But hurting everyone else... [She starts crying in spite of herself and just hugs him again.] My Mum, Jack, Micks, you, Martha... I can't. That's not me. I don't want it to be me! I don't want to be that kind of person.
So what am I supposed to do when there's no way I'll ever stop being in love with you?
no subject
Yes, I remember what I said about that but we're aging the same here. Whut you did to Jack was very human of you Rose. Oh, so very human.
[And strokes her hair as he states that]
Rose - I think we both know that if I hadn't had someone else hold my hand - I - I could have died one Christmas if Donna hadn't been thar. I didn't go looking for someone right away. Donna found me and good thing she did. And Martha, you don't know how much - [His hand threads up with hers and with the other slowly rubs her back]
You don't know how much Martha worked so hard on healing me... She showed up here first and not too far from when I am. And I wanted to notice her sooner but as soon as I did - things sort of came up.
[Gently pushes her chin up so he can look into her eyes]
But I didn't know the best would find me here, much less know my face.
no subject
[Caused it. Forced him to live. Not the Martha part, that's why she could never ever hurt Martha, come between them, get in the way just by existing.]
[But then he says that.]
[Her head is spinning, how much does he remember? Does it matter?]
[She just slides right to the ground, trying to breathe.]
[He always does the thing when she thinks it doesn't matter anymore. Him saying he loves her. Giving her his real name. Now this.]
[Did he even understand how much it meant to her? He hadn't understood with the love. Hadn't been on the beach when she made him choose.]
[And... it was because time didn't mean anything here.]
[Which she'd fought him most about. Because... he shouldn't waste that time then.]
[But if he understood, she was the best... then?]
[No, did he understand it?]
[She misses Meta, but at the same time, he's right there!]
[Just still fused with the rest of him. The Doctor that hadn't broken her heart yet.]
[She's so dizzy.]
I...
[Swallows hard, closing her eyes, and tugs him down to sit with her.]
I did the same thing to you I did to Jack. I mean. Not exactly. Yer not a fixed point. But I didn't--
[She glances away. HARD. Can't look at those puppy eyes while admitting her worst things.]
I made a pocket universe so to make it Donna would be with you. And others at other times. I couldn't be there myself, but it was the best I could do. I thought it was the universe at first, but then when I found out what I did to Jack, I knew it was just me being selfish. Amy said it was better that it was selfish... but I wasn't there. I wasn't there when it mattered, none of it. And maybe I won't be. Some best. I forced my two best friends to live unnaturally long, even when they hate it. I really messed up Mickey, and [Deep breath and sigh.] That's not even counting my Mum and Pete.
[Turns back to him finally, not looking up though, just burrowing herself in a hug in his chest.]
I've already hurt you so much, all I can do is keep demandin' you survive it, and be as good as Jack about it, yeah? But I'm so scared of hurting everyone else. I adopted Amy and then I just.... I freaked out so hard she hates me now. And I thought I was right at first for that, so she wouldn't get hit with any more shrapnel, only then Rory left, and I can't walk any of it back.
Being with you always brought out my best, and trying to get away from you has brought out nothing but my worst.
no subject
Why - why are you trying to get away from him? A gentle voice]
I'll talk to Amy, alright?
no subject
no subject
[Don't mind him, he just feels sort of useless here]
no subject
[Why does he have to DO anything?]
[Live. Love. Be you.]
[She looks up at him and holds his face in both hands.]
It's too easy for us to be in each other's orbit like this, yeah? Having you this close and not throw myself into loving you completely is just...
[Bites her bottom lip, closes her eyes, and gives up, pulling him down for a long kiss.]
I don't want to block out the view of everyone else like a sun, Doctor. I don't want want you to hold back with anyone else just because you think I'll always be here for you. I wasn't for Jack. [Eyes harden, because that was his fault, no matter how she looks at it, but she doesn't say anything this time.]
But... [She brushed back his sideburns gently.] If I don't hold back... I win without trying to. And that scares me. I want you so much, I don't know how to share. [Tight grin and a frown.] But I don't ever want to be that selfish either, yeah?
I love Jack and Martha too. Believe it or not. [But he was the best.]
[Without even trying. It was a problem. One she didn't know the solution to.]
no subject
Can - can we have our date? And after that - [he can't hide his puppy dog eyes] well - if you want to see some other bloke - [And gives her a smile]
Can we do that, Rose?
I will always be your friend.
no subject
[She smiles in spite of herself.]
[And brushes fingers through his hair.] Yeah. Of course.
But you have to just... promise me you won't miss out on your chances with Jack and Martha here. And that they won't get hurt. And you'll never ignore them for me. Because otherwise...
It's not fair to me, yeah? And I can't, I just...
[SNOGS MORE HEAVILY AGAIN.]
W-Wanna go win that snoging contest?
[UNLESS AN OLDER DOCTOR OR SOMEONE ELSE STOPS HER RIGHT THIS INSTANT...]
